Guest WilloMar Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 God will never leave nor forsake anyone, because that’s His character. When the Word of God reveals God’s wrath in Rom. 1:18-28, He even takes our sin of rejecting Him upon His own self through His Word: “God gave them up...” He takes upon Himself our rejection of Him because He’s our sin-Bearer, our Saviour. If He totally rejected us (as our human nature tends) He would have no influence, no matter how small, on us. Therefore He allowed people to do things like sacrifice animals. If He had left them He couldn’t influence them to sacrifice clean animals. Had Satan had his way, they would have sacrificed snakes and bats etc. But those people were innocent because of their ignorance, it was even counted for as faith: “And the times of this ignorance God winked at (over looked); but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30).” So let’s repent and be no more ignorant of who God is, because He is coming very soon! Guest WilloMar Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 “The sacrifice of Christ as an atonement for sin is the great truth around which all other truths cluster. In order to be rightly understood and appreciated, every truth in the word of God, from Genesis to Revelation, must be studied in the light that streams from the cross of Calvary.” GW 315 “But while the light has continued to increase, the church has not advanced proportionately. The fine gold has gradually become dim, and deadness and formality have come in to cripple the energies of the church....Where much is given, much will be required. Those only who faithfully accept and appreciate the light God has given us, and who take a high, noble stand in self-denial and self-sacrifice, will be channels of light to the world. Those who do not advance will retrograde, even on the very borders of the heavenly Canaan. It has been revealed to me that our faith and our works in no way correspond to the light of truth bestowed.” 5T 534 “The third angel's message will not be comprehended; the light which will lighten the earth with its glory will be called a false light, by those who refuse to walk in its advancing glory.” RH May 27, 1890. “The natural heart is at enmity against God, and will resist the clearest evidence of truth. The wicked will not endure the light that condemns their wrong course of action.” 5T 341 Let's prepare for Jesus! Quote

What are your thoughts about the following statements? Quote: The sacrificial offerings were ordained by God to be to man a perpetual reminder and a penitential acknowledgment of his sin and a confession of his faith in the promised Redeemer. They were intended to impress upon the fallen race the solemn truth that it was sin that caused death. To Adam, the offering of the first sacrifice was a most painful ceremony. His hand must be raised to take life, which only God could give. It was the first time he had ever witnessed death, and he knew that had he been obedient to God, there would have been no death of man or beast. As he slew the innocent victim, he trembled at the thought that his sin must shed the blood of the spotless Lamb of God. This scene gave him a deeper and more vivid sense of the greatness of his transgression, which nothing but the death of God's dear Son could expiate. And he marveled at the infinite goodness that would give such a ransom to save the guilty. A star of hope illumined the dark and terrible future and relieved it of its utter desolation. PP 68 Quote: It was Christ that spoke to His people through the prophets. The apostle Peter, writing to the Christian church, says that the prophets "prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow." 1 Peter 1:10, 11. It is the voice of Christ that speaks to us through the Old Testament. "The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10. In His teachings while personally among men Jesus directed the minds of the people to the Old Testament. He said to the Jews, "Ye search the Scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of Me." John 5:39, R.V. At this time the books of the Old Testament were the only part of the Bible in existence. Again the Son of God declared, "They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them." And He added, "If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Luke 16:29, 31. The ceremonial law was given by Christ. Even after it was no longer to be observed, Paul presented it before the Jews in its true position and value, showing its place in the plan of redemption and its relation to the work of Christ; and the great apostle pronounces this law glorious, worthy of its divine Originator. The solemn service of the sanctuary typified the grand truths that were to be revealed through successive generations. The cloud of incense ascending with the prayers of Israel represents His righteousness that alone can make the sinner's prayer acceptable to God; the bleeding victim on the altar of sacrifice testified of a Redeemer to come; and from the holy of holies the visible token of the divine Presence shone forth. Thus through age after age of darkness and apostasy faith was kept alive in the hearts of men until the time came for the advent of the promised Messiah. PP 366, 367 Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Guest WilloMar Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Dear John, God takes on ALL responsibilities - good an bad - "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things (Isa 45:7-8)." Yes, Jesus spoke to the prophets through His Word because He is "The Word of God (Rev. 19:13)." Sister White knew more truth than the prophet before her, and so on back in time. But she didn't have all of the truth, only the truth for her time. "We must not think, 'Well, we have all the truth, we understand the main pillars of our faith, and we may rest on this knowledge.' The truth is an advancing truth, and we must walk in the increasing light (CW 33)." Truth is ever advancing. "There are those in the ministry who have been readers of the Bible all their lives, and who think themselves so well versed in its teachings that they do not need to study it. Here is where they mistake. To the diligent Bible student new light, new ideas, new gems of truth, will constantly appear, and be eagerly grasped. Even through eternal ages the truths of this wonderful book will continue to unfold." The Review and Herald, 1886 How were the people in the OT to know the difference between Jesus and the devil? How could Jesus tell them that so as it would not break down their faith? “Not until the death of Christ was the character of Satan clearly revealed to the angels or to the unfallen worlds. The archapostate had so clothed himself with deception that even holy beings had not understood his principles. They had not clearly seen the nature of his rebellion (DA 758).” CW 33-36: “It is a fact that we have the truth, and we must hold with tenacity to the positions that cannot be shaken; but we must not look with suspicion upon any new light which God may send, and say, ‘Really, we cannot see that we need any more light than the old truth which we have hitherto received, and in which we are settled.’ While we hold to this position, the testimony of the True Witness applies to our cases its rebuke, ‘And knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.’ Those who feel rich and increased with goods and in need of nothing, are in a condition of blindness as to their true condition before God, and they know it not.” (Review and Herald, August 7, 1894) “We must not think, ‘Well, we have all the truth, we understand the main pillars of our faith, and we may rest on this knowledge.’ The truth is an advancing truth, and we must walk in the increasing light.” “A brother asked, ‘Sister White, do you think we must understand the truth for ourselves? Why can we not take the truths that others have gathered together, and believe them because they have investigated the subjects, and then we shall be free to go on without the taxing of the powers of the mind in the investigation of all these subjects? Do you not think that these men who have brought out the truth in the past were inspired of God?’ “I dare not say they were not led of God, for Christ leads into all truth; but when it comes to inspiration in the fullest sense of the word, I answer, ‘No.’ I believe that God has given them a work to do, but if they are not fully consecrated to God at all times, they will weave self and their peculiar traits of character into what they are doing, and will put their mold upon the work, and fashion men in religious experience after their own pattern. It is dangerous for us to make flesh our arm. We should lean upon the arm of Infinite Power. God has been revealing this to us for years. We must have living faith in our hearts and reach out for larger knowledge and more advanced light.” (Review and Herald, March 25, 1890) “A spirit of pharisaism has been coming in upon the people who claim to believe the truth for these last days. They are self-satisfied. They have said, ‘We have the truth. There is no more light for the people of God.’ But we are not safe when we take a position that we will not accept anything else than that upon which we have settled as truth. We should take the Bible, and investigate it closely for ourselves. We should dig in the mine of God's word for truth. ‘Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.’ Some have asked me if I thought there was any more light for the people of God. Our minds have become so narrow that we do not seem to understand that the Lord has a mighty work to do for us. Increasing light is to shine upon us; for ‘the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.’” (Review and Herald, June 18, 1889) “New light will ever be revealed on the word of God to him who is in living connection with the Sun of Righteousness. Let no one come to the conclusion that there is no more truth to be revealed. The diligent, prayerful seeker for truth will find precious rays of light yet to shine forth from the word of God. Many gems are yet scattered that are to be gathered together to become the property of the remnant people of God.” (Counsels on Sabbath School Work, p. 34. [1892]) “There is no excuse for anyone in taking the position that there is no more truth to be revealed, and that all our expositions of Scripture are without an error. The fact that certain doctrines have been held as truth for many years by our people, is not a proof that our ideas are infallible. Age will not make error into truth, and truth can afford to be fair. No true doctrine will lose anything by close investigation. “We are living in perilous times, and it does not become us to accept everything claimed to be truth without examining it thoroughly; neither can we afford to reject anything that bears the fruits of the Spirit of God; but we should be teachable, meek and lowly of heart. There are those who oppose everything that is not in accordance with their own ideas, and by so doing they endanger their eternal interest as verily as did the Jewish nation in their rejection of Christ. “The Lord designs that our opinions shall be put to the test, that we may see the necessity of closely examining the living oracles to see whether or not we are in the faith. Many who claim to believe the truth have settled down at their ease, saying, "I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing." (Review and Herald, December 20, 1892), CW 33-36 This knowledge is what prepares us for the second coming! Quote

As far as piecing together a law oriented doctrine, take a closer look at the Pauline texts ie.(Jesus Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness) As far as the context goes, feel free to enlighten me as to the context and I will be happy to respond. wayfinder Quote

wayfinder Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Ga 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE " You left out this verse which would show that we no longer need to continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them. Mt 7:23 "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' Now who are you to believe? Paul says one thing and the Son of God another. Romans 7:4-6 Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death. But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter We died to the law through the dead body of Christ... joined to another? Who is the other that was raised? I thought it was Christ who was raised! We have been released from the Law, oldness of letter. Sounds like Lawlessness to me, but then what do I know. Administrators Gail Posted July 3, 2009 Administrators Posted July 3, 2009 Christ very often talked to people who were very good lawkeepers. He showed them that it's not the outward lawkeeping that will get you anywhere as long as the INWARD heart is not in it. It is the heart that needs the new birth. The outward acts will follow the heart. Gumption can produce some works but God is concerned about the person's soul. His words of rebuke were not saying that the 10 Commandments moral law need not be followed. If they were not followed the world would have anarchy and confusion. His words were directed against those who by their own strength try to be good. But without being born again, a person will use good works to measure him/herself against other people. S/he will build him/herself up while knocking down others. Christ wanted people to have fresh hearts, to be born again, to have God's mercy working through them, for them to live for Him instead of living for themselves. I believe that Paul understood this. Romans is a good place that illustrates the spirit/flesh relationship. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I see that no one can pull anything over on you, and thats good. Yes you and I see differently, this is what makes us think and study, so we can continue this friendly exchange of ideas. Here are my thoughts on the word lawlessness used by the Son of God recorded in Matt. 7:23. Strongs number 458 Anomia: 1.the condition of without law a.because ignorant of it b.because of violating it 2.contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness I choose number one, you choose number 2, this is great! Gail, I have been looking for someone who is truely born again by the Holy Spirit and I have been not been very successful. 1st John 5:8 says that one who has been born of God (Holy Spirit) will not sin and the evil one (Satan) will not touch him--right? Revelation 21:8 and 22:15 shows us that anyone who is a liar and anyone who practices a lie will not be saved. And one of the commandments says something about not being a false witness. Adding this all up then it should mean that a person who is actually born again by the Holy Spirit will not be a liar, not be practicing a lie and will not sin again. I find this rather interesting and have never found anyone like this. Quote

You might not be looking for the right signs. But 1 John 5: 1 says that "whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God." Another sign of being born again of the Spirit is "overcoming the world" (5: 4). "Our faith is the victory that overcomes the world." Those who continue to believe firmly in Jesus Christ as the Son of God are the ones who overcome the world. Quote: Adding this all up then it should mean that a person who is actually born again by the Holy Spirit will not be a liar, not be practicing a lie and will not sin again. I find this rather interesting and have never found anyone like this. You are right that a person who is actually born of the Spirit will be practice lying or practice other sins. But 1 John does not signify that born again people NEVER commit sin. 1 John 1: 5-10 and 2: 1-6 is referring to born again Christians. The difference is that if invited, Christ comes into our lives through His Holy Spirit and changes us. He gave me new motives and a new mind. I used to live for sin. It was something I practiced in the same way that a person practices a musical instrument in order to play it better. I no longer do that. Why not? Because he has taken those desires away from me and replaced them with desires for Him and for His righteousness. 1 John 3: 9 is not saying that a born again person never commits sin or does wrong. It is saying that the born again person-- the person who has the Holy Sprit dwelling in him-- won't be able to keep on sinning. If a person does, it is a sign they don't have the Holy Spirit living in them and don't have the nature, or seed, of God in them. When we are naturally born of our human mother's, we have the motives and nature of the fallen Adam. We have a nature that is in rebellion against God. We have no desire to do God's will but only our own will. We love sin and we love only ourselves. But when we accept Christ and continue living daily with Him and He in us through His Spirit-- and as we commit every aspect of our lives completely to Him-- He gives us a new heart and a new mind. If we find this is not true in our experience, it is a sign that something is wrong and we need to look closely at our relationship with Christ. Dr. Rich Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Interesting issue. My bible does not say what your's says. I use the New American Standard and have found it closest to the truth. You also said that anyone who invited the Holy Spirit will be born again? Let's see now, Didn't Paul demand three times for his god to remove the demon and his god refused to do so because it was given to him to keep him from boasting? (2Cor.12:6-12) Go figure? Quote

Mr. Ballanger All true my friend - all true. Better to go with what the Bible actually does say -- than to simply make stuff up or base our faith on man-made speculation. In Rev 21 AFTER the millennium is over - we see the statement about no temple. But not before. Hence the many references to the temple of God in the book of revelation. Hence the fact in Heb 8 and 9 that there is today a real temple in heaven where our REAL High Priest, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ -- REALLY ministers on behalf of REAL sinners. Pretty easy concept and the best news is that it comes from a direct open and unbiased reading of the text of scripture. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Musicman1228 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Right on Bob, good call. I will also remind you that at the sounding of the 7th Trumpet during the Great Tribulation the Temple of God will be opened and the Ark of His Covenant will be seen. Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail. Rev.11:19. It is weak analysis to say that the temple here seen could be Jesus. Also note that God calls attention to the Ark with a lot of fireworks and noise; He wants everyone to know that He bases His judgments upon what is contained in the Ark; His Covenant of the Kingdom of Heaven. This speaks directly against the idea that the Covenant/Law/10 Commandments were ever laid aside in favor of grace. Quote
Dr. Rich Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Here is what EGW wrote about this on page 433 of the GC: "Therefore the announcement that the temple of God was opened in heaven and the ark of His testament was seen points to the opening of the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844 as Christ entered there to perform the closing work of the atonement." (GC-page 433) By the way musicman, can you tell me what event happens right after this event? (Oh, you can find this in Rev. 11:19. I keep forgetting that not many people here don't read or know their bible very well--sorry about that.) So, please someone tell me or better yet, show me how the event described in Rev. 11:19 happened in 1844? To me, this ONE piece of evidence proves beyond any reasonable doubt, that EGW got her information from some other source other than Jesus Christ. When I saw this, I totally changed my mind about her and her source. Quote
Guest WilloMar Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Concerning the earthly sanctuary, I’m sorry that I tend not to make myself very clear. Maybe I should not have said that the children of Israel “Demanded” a temple like those in Egypt. I only said that because they dwelled in Egypt for over 400 years, and clearly the sanctuary they built was very comparable to those temples. Of course, since Christ never leaves nor forsakes anyone, He steps in to lead them back to Himself, in the offerings and the sanctuary itself. Perhaps Acts 7 will help clarify it a bit. Acts 7:47, 48: “But Solomon built Him (God) an house. However, the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands...” We could build the most beautiful and the most luxurious temple of gold and precious stones that ever was, but the building wouldn’t be the dwelling place of God: “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own (1 Cor. 6:19)?” Oh, I know, God is everywhere, but what benefit is that to us if He were in “the desert,” or “in the secret chambers,” or “in temples made with hands (Matt. 24:26; Acts 7:48)? He needs to be dwelling in us that He may lead us to be like Him. That is our hope of glory ---- our hope of receiving His character. Continuing in Acts 7:51: “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.” The religious leaders of that day didn’t like what Stephen was saying about their faith and precious temple, so they killed him. And if there was anything they knew about, it was using their bloody hands (Isa. 1:15) to kill. They, like their fathers before them, resisted the Holy Spirit by placing Him (so they thought) in a box. They were unyielding to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. However, God dwells not in a box, no matter how expensive, but in each one of us sinners. “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, ‘I will dwell in them and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people (2 Cor. 6:16).’” How did Jesus lead them in the building of the sanctuary? What was it to symbolize by His leading? Was it not a type of the temple in heaven? But, what Temple in heaven? “And I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb are its Temple (Rev. 21:22).” Therefore the sanctuary the children of Israel built was a type of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God. Evidently, many today, like those of the past, can’t understand the difference between a temple of wood and gold with a heart of stone, from the body-temple with a heart of flesh: “Jesus answered and said to unto them, ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.’ Then said the Jews, ‘Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt Thou rear it up in three days?’ But He spake of the temple of His body (John 2:19-21).” Since Jesus and His Father is the Temple in heaven, and since Jesus bears the sins of the world (1 John 2:2, Isa. 53:6), those sins are transferred to Satan when probation closes for the world. All He has to do is proclaim it: “For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast (Ps. 33:9)”: “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still (Rev. 22:11).” Let’s prepare for that day!
