Moderators John317 Posted July 17, 2009 Moderators Posted July 17, 2009 And actually, when the progression of theology is taken into consideration, and when we think about the diet and the clean and unclean meats of the Old Testament, and when we compare that to the vegetarian diet prescribed by Ellen White, the honest fundamentalist will have to say that Ellen White was more inspired than Moses. So there you go. You want to be a fundamentalist SDA, then you have to say the inspiration of Ellen White was superior to the inspiration of Bible writers. It's important to consider that we are living in the antitypical day of atonement, during the time of the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary. The message that God has for those who are preparing to live through the end-time and to be translated at the Second Coming, may be expected to be different from the message He had for the children of Israel who were going into Palestine. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Woody Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Quote: A given message is either inspired or it is not. Ahhhh. Now you are changing the discussion. Yes, a given message is either inspired or not. But too often we have just labeled the author as either inspired or not. And by doing that we are saying that everything that author ever said or wrote was 'inspired'. And that is where we get into trouble. Ellen White did not want the label of 'inspired'. She encourage all to compare what she wrote to scripture and toss out that which was not truth. oldsailor29 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 2 Samuel 7: 1-7. The prophet was Nathan. You bring up a situation that is different from a prophet's writing something that God has inspired and that God has told them to say. Nathan never said that God told him to tell David to go ahead with the building. A prophet can give ordinary advice too, like anyone else. Ellen White also once told someone to build something, then was told that she gave them the wrong advice. But she didn't say, "The Lord has told me you should build...." Yes of course. I meant Nathan. And one of my points was that part of a prophet's job involves the authority to give advice from the Lord. Another point is that I am not a fundamentalist, but I am pointing out the pitfalls of fundamentalism. In order to be consistent there are certain ridiculous beliefs which those who believe in verbal inspiration must embrace. They cannot be allowed to apply their rules of inspiration only when it is convenient. The fact of the matter is, they are wrong about the nature of inspiration, and their error originated from Satan, and it is the biggest Trojan Horse in the world of theology. Planey Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Whether a prophet is an inspired person or whether they spoke some inspired words, or whether they were inspired at some times but used their own words, or whatever permutations or combinations you want to use - well, that all makes my head spin. One thing though which I have found to be permanent and unchangeable: Most people from all points on the theological spectrum, agree that EGW is not infallible. But if you dare to suggest that on one particular point the good lady may have written something which may be slightly less than rock-solid truth, you will be publicly jumped on from a great height. Yes, even here on CA. Perhaps I should say, particularly here on CA. Don't believe me? Try it and see for yourself. My point being that if you are willing to admit she is not infallible (which is to say, she is fallible), walk the walk as well as talk the talk - don't be like Pavlov's dogs and salivate whenever you see the words "Mrs White" and "wrong" in the same sentence. Richard Holbrook Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 The main Trojan horse is the "Emerging Church" movement. Good. I'm am glad that someone is hitting the "emerging church" stuff in the postmodern solar plexus. Hey, it would be cool if Sam would present that lecture in Ohio... Here's a link to 6 sermons about the emergent church, and some other topics. I like Samuel Koranteng Pipim. I have to listen close to understand him though. http://www.hopevideo.com/media_with_samuel_koranteng-pipim-2.htm Quote
