Moderators John317 Posted August 9, 2009 Moderators Posted August 9, 2009 And I think I have a conclusion. Satan is not that powerful. We certainly don't want to give Satan too much credit. But at the same time it's very important to realize that on our own, we are absolutely no match for Satan. But with Christ at our side and fighting our battle for us, Satan is really helpless and a defeated foe. But that means having Christ working in us and for us 24/7. Christ will only do that with our permission. Quote: So Satan would use deception much more than demonic possesions? I dont know its just a theory. Yes, he uses deception of all kinds, including getting people to doubt his existence, or the reality and seriousness of the battle. Another thing Satan does is deceive people into doubting the reliability and inspiration of the Bible. Why? Because the Bible is God's primary means of communicating with us, and therefore Satan knows that if he can manage to cut us off from the Source, it makes it easier for Satan and his demons to attack us and gain the victory. On the other hand, if we have the Bible promises in our minds and are constantly dwelling on the Scriptures, we'll experience the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Guest Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I've been listening to this guy "Dan Vis" talk about why we should memorize scripture and how. I think I will start learning how. Quote
Guest Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 There's three sermons on it. It's amazing http://delongdirect.com/sermons/SERMONS/Dan%20Vis/ Quote
Moderators John317 Posted August 9, 2009 Moderators Posted August 9, 2009 Never heard of him but if he encourages people to memorize Bible passages, he's telling the truth and doing a good thing. Thanks for the links. Where is he? Am listening now. Speaking of memorizing it, I used to enjoy going to hear an SDA evangelist who knew the entire Bible by heart. His sermons were nothing but the Bible, and you could ask him any question you wanted about the Bible, and he would answer you only with Scripture. It was wonderful to hear and see. I only remember his last name, Spears. He was a black evangelist in the Southeastern Ca Conference back in the 1970s. Wonderful, powerful speaker. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Guest Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 The more scripture you have stored in your mind, the easier it is for the Holy Spirit to guide you and work with you. Quote
Guest Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 He's got a website where you can get the tools and training to do this. Check out that 1st sermon when you get time. He's in the state of WA Quote
Guest Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 website: http://www.fast.st/fast/index.php There are texts in the Bible where we are actually told to memorize the word of God. 90-95% of all people think they're memory is worse than average, but it's not true. It's like a muscle that needs exercise. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted August 9, 2009 Moderators Posted August 9, 2009 Yes, I just heard him say that. LOL Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted August 9, 2009 Moderators Posted August 9, 2009 If all we think about is our own salvation, Satan has us, because that's selfishness. We need to stop thinking of ourselves and of our problems and live to help others like Christ did. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Guest Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 That's right, and by trying to give it away, we keep it. Quote
Guest Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 By spreading the gospel to others we become more firmly rooted in it. And we loose sight of self when trying to help others. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted August 9, 2009 Moderators Posted August 9, 2009 Reminds me of what Jesus said: He who seeks to save his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will save it. Now: Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted August 9, 2009 Moderators Posted August 9, 2009 Here it's 12: 50 AM. That is early for me, all right, but I am trying to practice better sleeping habits now. So, really and truly: Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Guest Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Hey wayfinder, How long has it been since you had the trouble with that demon? Quote
Administrators Gail Posted August 10, 2009 Administrators Posted August 10, 2009 I've been listening to this guy "Dan Vis" talk about why we should memorize scripture and how. I think I will start learning how. Dan Vis... that name rings a bell... Got it! He has come out with a book on Bible memorization entitled, "For Such a Time..." Published by Fast Missions, it is printed by Remnant Publications. I read this book, but I gotta tell you how disappointed I was in the quality of writing. There are chopped off sentences galore, so I don't know if he even had it edited. It was so badly edited, in fact, that I wouldn't buy it for the store. I found myself getting irritated because of it. That is a shame, because I believe strongly in "hiding God's word" in my heart, as the Bible says. I would have loved to have carried the book. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted August 10, 2009 Administrators Posted August 10, 2009 As for the Vaughn Allen books, don't give up on your ABC yet. Some of those books are available through TEACH, which any ABC can order from if they don't already carry it. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Guest Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Did you see the links I posted to Dan Vis' sermons and his website? http://delongdirect.com/sermons/SERMONS/Dan%20Vis/ website: http://www.fast.st/fast/index.php Thanks for the info on the Vaughn Allen books. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted August 10, 2009 Administrators Posted August 10, 2009 No, sorry, I didn't, but I'd like to sometime when I have more time for it. :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
