I'd like to add a couple things:

1) I like to believe that we all do the best we can with what we have.

2) We can only make a judgment as good as the information we have.

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

2) Then it is important to make sure we have good information Gail. :-)

If temptation is such a friend, then perhaps God should allow Satan to stick around as a forever friend?

All things work together for the good of those that love Jesus? (paraphrase).

forever friend,,, no, no, pleaaaaaaaase hehe

Satan will soon be ashes under our feet,,, it is enough that we have him constantly harassing us here on this earth,,, a constant spot on our feasts!

Hmm...

I thought that temptation came from within us, that pesky sinful nature again... :) Satan uses it to his advantage, for sure, and attacks our weak points, but there has to be something in us to "link up" with what he tries to throw our way.

Just a thought.

Of course Gail, in ourselves we are sinful through and through. Temptations come from within and from without.

Jesus talked about our lusts rising out of our evil hearts.

So when the enemy plants a thought in our minds (Job chapter 1&2 illustrate this), our carnal heart responds to it.

This is why the enemy tries to tempt us on those things we are most attached to.

But this is also why people can become confused when an alien thought arrives in their mind, it can also cause great guilt, because they think they are responsible for that thought, when all they need to do is turn away from it and turn to God...
