Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Unfortunately .... my community has had a variety of "Adventist" signs and bill boards spattered around. By the time that I get my camera to the right place ... they have moved it. The signs vary in what they say. This one is one of the more soft or mild ones. But here it is: Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted September 16, 2009 Members Posted September 16, 2009 Yes Redwood sometimes I think we come on a bit strong. Not sure how you would soften it, but it probably needs to be told. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 How about "Jesus loves you". The rest can come later. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Hi dgrimm. If I may respectfully point out to my honorable elder .... There may be nothing wrong with it ... But personally I don't view it as effective. I would view it as counterproductive. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted September 16, 2009 Administrators Posted September 16, 2009 If it was you who was "out there," what would catch your attention and make you curious enought to enter a church and ask questions? Guest Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Last time I checked, spreading the three angels messages to the world was the only reason we were raised up as a people. and the only reason we have for existing as a people. But Redwood, you think we should sheild people from it? Quote

Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Asking a question based on an assumption of what RW was thinking.....shaking my head...like RW said, counterproductive as well!! Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 HEY REDWOOD AND COASPEN WHY would talking about the 7th day sabbath be counter productive ?????? dgrimm60 It is clearly perceived as legalistic and hate filled if not presented with the love of Jesus. If someone doesn't know Jesus ... this message is counter productive. Our message is NOT the Sabbath. Our message is that Jesus loves you and died to save you. Once you recognize this ... you will want to serve Him ... not before. It is the cart before the horse. Unfortunately ... many fall into doing witnessing in this manner. It just repels people rather than to draw them. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 HEY REDWOOD BUT other chrisitan churches has signs that say JESUS LOVE YOU what would make people want to come to the S.D.A. if a lot of churches has signs that say JUST LOVES YOU WE want people to ask questions and search the bible dgrimm60 Yes. They are far ahead of us in that area. They know the main thing to be the main thing. They don't have billboards that say ... "Dancing is a sin". Hopefully people will come to our church because they know us to be people who love the Lord. If people come just because they think we believe the Pope is Anti-Christ ... then we are in trouble. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 It would be like a public service announcement. It could say ... brought to you by the Seventh day Adventist Church. That way you know that the SDAs believe that. It would certainly help our image from the damage that the billboards do that say the Pope is Anti-Christ. One is positive and the other is negative. Which do you think will have positive results?? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
oldsailor29 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I think before I would say the signs were wrong, I would find out how they were sponsored and if they produced any success. If the people who paid for the signs were following the will of God, and if there are baptisms because people who read the signs contact the church, then I would have to say the signs are a good idea. Stan Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 In the book Evangelism, in the Chapter dealing with Catholics, EGW said that we have been far to harsh on them in the past and we should point out what is right, not what is wrong.. The folks who do those billboards must have skipped over those pages. Just think of how you would feel if things were reversed- would a billboard make you feel like leaving and hopping over to the other side? I wonder what it feels like to be "THEM". Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Here is a story about one such group that was offended by our wonderful billboards: http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=27720 Even Bill O'Reilly called for it to come down. Wow ... what a witness. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

If this part of the three angel's messages was made paramount, followed by the rest when one recognizes Infinite power to save by love, there would probably be less problems. Woody Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Another billboard that I have seen. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Hi dgrimm. Do you see a difference between the bill board that says "Antichrist changed it, avoid his mark" and the bill board that says "The Pope is The AntiChrist"? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Quote: but to say Antichrist change it is not saying who theAntichrist is So then the purpose of the billboard is to let them find out? Members phkrause Posted September 17, 2009 Members Posted September 17, 2009 Some reverse pyschology I'd say Redwood. I can remember when our church used to say that about others. The article was very interesting though. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 The billboards have nothing to do with any meetings. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
BobRyan Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 HEY REDWOOD THE sign did not say anything about dancing is sin it say that the 7th day is the sabbath If the sign had said "The Seventh-day is the Sabbath" that would have been a good outreach. If the sign had said "The Seventh-day is the Sabbath of the Lord Thy God - and Jesus Christ was bodily raised from the dead on the first day" -- it would have been a good outreach. But the sign leads out with a statement about the antichrist - which while true - would drive more people away before they had a chance to look into the facts. That is the tactic that I would question. It is often the case that our non-SDA opponents will instantly bring up "antichrist connected to Sunday or the Sabbath" as soon as they find out one of the members posting on the discussion is SDA. They do this because they know it is an immediate turn off for many -- who will then not bother to look closer. This is also why we do not start with "Antichrist and Sunday" topics in our evangelistic meetings. People are more confused by it if they have no background or context for what we really mean. They go away incorrectly thinking that we are saying that anyone who does not keep Sabbath or who does keep Sunday has the mark of the beast. in Christ, Bob in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 17, 2009 Administrators Posted September 17, 2009 This group is an off-shoot. They split from the denomination back in 1992. These billboards are their primary "outreach" and the anti-Catholic message is their primary approach to spreading their message. Some here have suggested that if this gets people's attention and they are converted and convicted of the Sabbath it's worth it. But what kind of conversion is that? And who exactly would be attracted to this sort of message? It reminds me of two things. Most importantly it reminds me of Jesus' rebuke to the Pharisees, "You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are." The second thing is a conversation I had with a friend in which we were lamenting the seemingly disproportionate number of extremists, fanatics and generally odd people we seem to attract with our traditional evangelism efforts. Picking up on Jesus' "fishers of men" idea, my friend said that fisherman know that the bait you use determines the fish you catch. So if we use weird bait we catch weird people. Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Members phkrause Posted September 17, 2009 Members Posted September 17, 2009 Some interesting thoughts Tom. I also recall about this group that there was a thread we had here on CA awhile back, and they and the SDA church were in some legal conflict over there use of the SDA name. Not sure about that but thought I remembered something to that effect. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
