LifeHiscost Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 i understood for the first time what satan would do to our earth given the chance. i think i was mostly trying to share that for some of us certain kinds of music can be as much a snare as having just one drink is for an alcoholic. im thinking of the move to bring those types of music into the church. in my case the last thing i think of when i hear it is God. memories come back and i want to go dancing. You've brought out some very good points, teresa, and as far as what satan would do given the chance, I would say watching global TV gives a pretty good view of the strides he's making already. And considering the fact that but for the FBI (and God's grace) we would have already had four incidences within the last couple of months of weapons of mass destruction detonated in the United States. This is the only reason it hasn't already happened. "After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.”"Revelation 7:1-3 NKJV Blessings! LifeHiscost Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I find it true in my case that "where I came from" makes a weakness or a sensibility to that genre. I appreciate a point of view from someone who has already walked that road. God can take that person and use them for good out of the experience that s/he has. A person with such an experience is a great blessing to me- a big help. He or she can help bear up another who is struggling like no one else can. It sounds to me like it would be good for some of us to be introduced to Cherie Peters, who happens to have a program on 3ABN, Sunday at 5:00 PM PST and Thursday at 9:00 PM PST. If you don't have her on TV channels, I believe she can be accessed on the net, for those who have highspeed internet service, at 3ABN.org. Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I don't remember any of those, because I wasn't born until at least 20 years after all of those people. And looking back to only a few decades ago, I cannot fathom why anyone would willingly listen to that kind of music. Or have hair like that. Or dress like that. It's surprising what the devil can lead you into before you know he's more than a red monkey suit with a pitchfork and pointy tail. Quote Lift Jesus up!!

I wrote that lyric as a tribute and inside joke to her. I don't know how the heroin connection rumor got started. The song is basically about friendship." Far too much is often read into many lyrics, reflecting the mind and experiences of listeners more than of the author. Another fine example is the much speculated about song and personal favorite of mine, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. All manner of bizarre meanings have been read into that one. But the simple and obvious meaning is overlooked. One explanation I read from a friend and neighbor of Robert Plant who said that "because it was only written in 20 minutes, there was no great thought put into the lyrics - other than it refers to a rich woman who feels she can buy anything or buy her way out of any trouble. Eventually, though, we all have to 'pay the piper' - or pay for our misdeeds/ excesses in life." Seems to make sense to me. Tom [/quote']really? listening to the words and knowing junkies, which i did at the time, might deny that. but i doubt ill convince anyone. one would have to have seen what ive seen and been where ive been and most, especially sdas, have led "sheltered" lives, quite apart and distant from what goes on in this world. i know too many who are now dead. Yes, really! Your response confirms what I was saying that the "interpretations" people give to lyrics are more reflective of their own state of mind and experience than that of the one that wrote the song. (It does also make one wonder about the many "interpretations" of Scripture... but that's another story...) Here is another music myth correction - Lucy of 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' fame dies Not about LSD, PCP, Angel Dust, or anything of the sort. Far more innocent than that... Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

ChildofChrist Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Just tacking on, above someone mention Peter, Paul and Mary...Well, Mary died a week or two back. I learned a while back that music is a direct pathway to the brain. When raising the youngest child, I monitored all music that was listened to. One of the major reasons that so many of old advertising on TV were set to 'Jingles.' I am sure that there are many who can recall some of the songs,,,such as "You'll wonder where the Yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent." Then there was "Almond Joy" and so forth.
