GreatLakesGramma Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I agree. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis

Woody Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Quote: "Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall." 1 Corinthians 8:13 NIV This is one text if followed to extremes can be very dangerous. Perhaps since I cause people to fall ... I should just not be around people. No. What would be better is to teach these people the Truth ... that eating meat is not wrong and that they need not fall over it. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Gerr Posted January 23, 2010 Moderators Posted January 23, 2010 If that is too radical, try this: "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea." Mt 18:6 ESV. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted January 23, 2010 Moderators Posted January 23, 2010 Aye, there's the rub. If doing something is not in itself sin, then influencing someone else to do it is also not sin. (And I believe this text relates more to things like pedophilia than what we eat or drink...) Quote Truth is important
LifeHiscost Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 that eating meat is not wrong and that they need not fall over it. On the other hand, in the U.S. there are more people who die of coronary disease than any other place on the planet, much of the deaths directly linked to the eating of red meat, among other things. As well, it takes about 15 times (not sure of the exact figure) more tillable space to produce a pound of nourishing bloody meat for consumption at the table, than it takes to provide the same amount of nourishment directly from plant food, without the danger of athrosclerosis, allowing a minimal amount of people to feast sumptiously, only cutting their lives short for the pleasure, while multiplied millions are dieing for lack of a crust of bread. "Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!" Ecclesiastes 10:17 KJV "Righteousness exalts a nation,But sin is a disgrace to any people."Proverbs 14:34 NASB Which seems to be obvious in the world we live in today. And those nations that believe themselves not to be caretakers of their poor brothers, and continue to live as profligates, will reap their due reward unless they repent. Which makes me a little concerned for my own future. Come Lord Jesus! Joy!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Woody Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Okay. I will confess since that is the topic of this thread. I enjoy a nice juicy and thick cut of meat now and again. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Its seems that all the countries that have tried to emulate the USA on diet are also rapidly approaching the USA and Japan. Japan used to be way behind us, they basicly ate more fish, but are now more into red meat. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Members abelisle Posted January 24, 2010 Members Posted January 24, 2010 My take on this is that it isn't meat eating that kills you as much as sugar intake and lack of exercise. I think EGW said somewhere that manual laborers could just about eat anything they wished. We are a nation of couch potatoes. No one even walks to the neighborhood store. They jump in their cars instead. People don't ride bikes because our transportation infrastructure isn't supportive of bike riding. When I was in Europe last year, there were bicycles and bikers everywhere! If anything is sinful in this regard, it is our shirking of the stewardship of our own bodies. When was the last time you heard a sermon on stewardship that connected with health reform and/or environmentalism? Alex (cleaned out my Temple today with my workout ) Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com

Granted he has a pretty long driveway and he's probably around 70, but still, drive! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
