CGMedley Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Why are so many women unhappy? Are men the reason? Albert Mohler shares an insightful commentary on this delicate topic. You can read it this week's Adventist Review. http://www.adventistreview.org/article.php?id=3123 Quote
Twilight Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Maybe the feminist movement have ignored the order presented by God in Eden... Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. This injunction was not optional. God gave it for a reason. Of course feminism and "culture" seem to want to over-rule this and to even point to it will often raise cries of "sexism". But God established this order in the home for a purpose. If this is what feminism is attacking, then of course women will be unhappier. Anything that goes against the will of God will cause unhappiness... Mark :-) Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...
Moderators LynnDel Posted February 5, 2010 Moderators Posted February 5, 2010 Are you sure that is an injunction in that text? I just thought it was the result of sin, a prophecy of natural consequences. If it is an injunction, then I guess I am not following it, because I am not sorrowful. And if it is an injunction for women to be sorrowful, women who are sad should be praised - and articles written about why women are unhappy would be an odd direction to take! LD Quote LD

Are you saying that man is to rule over his woman? Are you inplying that "headship" is a God ordained program for familys? Or are their other indications that the pronouncement [notice, I didn't say "command"] came about? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Or are their other indications that the pronouncement [notice, I didn't say "command"] came about? I am saying that women have something in them that resists God ordained authority. They inherited that from Eve. Because of that, God has decreed the order as stated in Eden. Now I know of no other "order" ascribed by God in the bible? We try to get around this, but we fail miserably. That "getting around it" is often brought in by feminist attitudes. So often we talk about the problems that "men" cause in the church, but we consider it almost "heretical" to consider how women can damage a church. Consider Pauls counsel to a church where women were trying to "rule over men", go home and be taught of your husband was his counsel. Very straight. ------------ Now this does not imply some type of victorian male dominance in the relationship, but more on that later... But I am guessing within 5 more posts, that charge will be made... Mark :-) Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...
karl Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Why are so many women unhappy? Are men the reason? Possibly. Especially if they are trying to get into men's heads. Men and women occupy different headspaces. (I know that the laws of physics demand this for people in general, but what I mean is: different genre of headspaces.) The difference is not tied to intelligence. There are very intelligent women whose knowledge of cars stops with suspecting that "go" is better than “won't go.” They could understand cars if they wanted to, but..... nuh uh. I am far too curious to allow stuff to get past me like that. I want to know how things work. And how to fix them. Psychologists tell us that women are quite willing to discuss problems and seem to care less about actually fixing them, while men prefer to fix problems and seem to care less about discussing them. Men, in general, seem to have a different, and perhaps wider, range of curiosity than women, which may be why they die younger. Joel Gray says that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. If you haven't read his book you're missing a treat. I have to go to my cave, now, and fix something. Quote

Administrators Gail Posted February 5, 2010 Administrators Posted February 5, 2010 I don't know why women are discontented... Notwithstanding the results that we inherited from Eve's sin, our role of nurturing, support and child-rearing is a serious one, indeed! Mothers shape souls, they form the next generation. They hold the real power in this world!! :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Administrators Gail Posted February 5, 2010 Administrators Posted February 5, 2010 Is the reason women are so unhappy (and I say that as a woman who is NOT so unhappy) so simple as being unsubservient to her husband? I should perhaps read the article... are we talking women in general in society or wives? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted February 5, 2010 Administrators Posted February 5, 2010 Okay- I've skimmed over the article so I now have a better idea of what was mentioned there. It mentions that women are more burdened than ever, many having to balance child-rearing with career. I agree- being a single parent is tough. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Administrators Gail Posted February 5, 2010 Administrators Posted February 5, 2010 I hope that Mark is not male chauvinistic! There is something to be said, though, for men who really understand the blessing that God intended a godly man to be. I do know some. I really respect them. I have known some of the other type, too. I don't wonder why some Christian marriages crumble. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted February 5, 2010 Administrators Posted February 5, 2010 Woody, I'm sure that my KJV would say it like that. Leave her alone on that one. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Administrators Gail Posted February 5, 2010 Administrators Posted February 5, 2010 Somehow for a time I got the feeling that neither men nor women were sure about just what we wanted or what the other gender wanted out of life. Neil D Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Somehow for a time I got the feeling that neither men nor women were sure about just what we wanted or what the other gender wanted out of life. When you say "we", is that a reference to Adventists or to Christians or generally speaking...? because generally speaking, I don't think most men know what being a man is all about.......Women already have a purpose...but what purpose is there for men, except to leave "thier mark on the world"? I agree- being a single parent is tough. yes, that is what i see, and even if they dont work outside of the home, theyre going from the time they get up, take the kids to school, do whatever but be available to pick them, take them whereever, and on and on. there is no appreciation, very little "recuperate" time, if any.... so looking for a way to blame the woman for the ills of society, for me, is right up there with blaming a rape victim for being raped, or a child for being molested or abused. sick.
