That would be the core value of the christians life or should be. If not, how can we be followers of Christ? Knowing doctrine or even following it accomplishes little with out the 'knowing'.

Seems to be an avoidance of this and some rather 'picky' stuff about......Hmmmm?

I agree, Coaspen. IMO, theology is all about knowing the "correct" doctrine. Amazingly, I have found very little talk about "Jesus Christ and Him crucified" among "theologians." It seems that so many Christians are more interested in being "right" than in knowing they have been forgiven by God for the sake of the doing and dying of Jesus Christ. Have they possibly lost their "first love"?

I have no serious axe to grind about the passage in question. My problem is the manipulation of Scripture to suit one's personal agenda. This is rampant--not just in SDAism but--in Christendom as a whole.

Jesus is clear that it is not about what you know, but about Whom you know.

Quote:
John 5:36 "I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38 nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39 You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

There is no "life" in Bible study nor in the correct "interpretation" of the Scriptures. There is life only in Jesus Christ. And since He is the Meaning of Scripture, there is no greater or further or more profound Scriptural Truth we can know than Jesus Christ, our crucified and risen Savior.

It is all about Jesus!

Praise God for so great a salvation!

very good points you make. but if one doesnt know that one doesnt know....therein lies the problem.

Patti - I agree there is no life in most Bible study. But The study of the teachings of Jesus, and following those teachings are the ways we "eat His flesh and drink His blood." His teachings are the living bread, unlike the rest of the Bible.

If there is only "life is Jesus Christ" and not by studying the bible to know the truth, then what "life" do those have that were before the New Testament? Your opinion just does not hold water. Jesus did not come here to establish a new religion (Christianity) did He? Did not He say that He came ONLY to save the lost sheep of Israel?

Please read Rev. 21:8 and 22:15. If we do not study the Bible and learn what Jesus said by the way of the eyewitnesses who wrote it down, then please tell me how is one to know the truth today? If you don't know the truth and therefore practice a lie, isn't that a little dangerious for your soul?

Rich are you really unaware that Jesus existed in OT times also. Jesus is the creator of the universe. See John 1:1-3, and Eph 3:9

Time to wake up Richard! Heeellllooooo! Michael was there before Jesus Christ. You keep forgetting the context. hang in there, someday you might "get it".

I see you didn't bother to read the text I gave that tells you that Jesus created everything. And Michael IS Jesus.............bone head.

I seem to remember Jesus saying "But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself". (John 12:32)

Does "all" in this context not mean all? I can see nothing in this verse that would indicate He was referring only to "the lost sheep of Israel".
