That's my whole point. Many people do say the same thing about other days of the week. And it's no wonder when Adventists set out to "prove" the Sabbath, or some point about the Sabbath, with Bible texts that are unrelated. Like you just did with Gal 3:29 for eg. That verse was referring to people who have been baptized, as being "In Christ." Nothing to do with the Sabbath in that verse at all. All this stuff about "special blessings" can be said about any other day of the week if we are truly In Christ.

Many people keep the Sabbath on Sunday, not realising it is actually Friday Sunset to Saturday Sunset.

What about people who live in the far North where there is no sunset during the summer and it's dark all the time during the winter? The 24 hours kept as Sabbath is arbitrary for them.

Is the need to get up and sleep and operate on a 24 hour day still arbitrary for them?

I would suggest that as they do keep a 7 day cycle that Sabbath observance is perfectly possible.

And if you are living right at the North or South pole you might want to move anyway. :-)

I find the person who makes effort to take the joy out of another's resting in the Word of God, as a leading of some other spirit besides the Spirit of God.

Since Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, there is no doubt in my mind that following the traditions of men instead of a "Thus saith the Lord", will bring its' own rewards.

"Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:

“ Today, if you will hear His voice,

Do not harden your hearts.”

For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His."Heb 4:1,2,6-10 NKJV Bold emphasis mine LHC

So instead of explaining, from a Biblical point of view your mistake with Galatians 3:29, you, who "have the truth" just dismiss it away by pronouncing that I "have another spirit, other than that of Christ? Nice. Have fun with that. No wonder people won't believe us half the time.

As with many, some believe principles found in promises are tied to immediate context only, as if the context were the principle as opposed to the promise. Your explanation of the reason why Galatians 3:29 is valid only in a certain context is a similar pattern of thought that disallows the seventh day Sabbath and all its' attendant joy, to be absolved in favor of making a man made platform of belief allowing traditions of fallen man to supercede

the sure Word of God.

"Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.

What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.

For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise."Galatians 3:16-18 NASB

To reiterate;

"And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you."Galatians 3:29 NLT

Anyone may disavow their right to the promises of God who so chooses. No one has the right to disavow the right of others to receive the promises of God except the Lord of glory.

"And so you cancel the word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. And this is only one example among many others.”

Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “All of you listen,” he said, “and try to understand. It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart." Mark 7:13-15 NLT

That's not true at all. As a devout Catholic; I have my most "uninterupted communion" on Sundays. No other day of the week is such a blessing to me and my family. We feel so close to Jesus and His Church on this day; Saturday is just another business day and most weeks we are glad to see it end,

What do you mean a "special blessing," when you talk about the Sabbath? How do you notice anything different in God's blessing on Sabbath or on any other day of the week?

I thought you were SDA. Wow, no wonder you argue against EGW. Did you know your heart beats slower on Saturday? It's a scientific fact.

Richard; Mr Murphy or someone has been feeding you the wrong info. I am a very dedicated Adventist, and a few posts ago, I believe I explained that the comments you refer to were done in a sort of non-comedy parody fashion to illustrate what I get hit with by Catholic people that I am studying with. As for me "arguing against Ellen White; I didn't do that either. I just questioned a common interpretation of something she wrote.

The fact remains that a lot of Adventists do all this special Sabbath talk and lingo; and half of them don't even know what it all really means or why.

Twilight's inability/unwillingness to explain his incorrect use of Gal 3:29 shows us a good example. I did not "limit this text" to just one use/context; I just said it does not apply to Sabbath. The best he could do was to note that I am anti-Christ (not having the Spirit of Christ) for daring to question his status quo.

The way this discussion is going shows that many of us have a long ways to go in knowing how God wants us to think of and speak of the Sabbath. 95% of our sabbath "proof" is likely not that at all.

Also, I believe that people's misuse of Ellen White's writings to "explain" or "prove" the Sabbath are the real "arguing against Ellen White" that we see today; and it is no wonder that the world finds certain Bible doctrines repulsive, because we are such poor witnesses thereof.

Your explanation of the reason why Galatians 3:29 is valid only in a certain context is a similar pattern of thought that disallows the seventh day Sabbath and all its' attendant joy, to be absolved in favor of making a man made platform of belief

To reiterate:

I did not do with this scripture what you say I did. Where did I say that Gal 3:29 is "valid only in a certain context? I questioned what it has to do with the Sabbath. You tried to use this, along with another text to "prove" the Sabbath; but I have not questioned the Sabbath, nor have I said anyone else should. The Sabbath being proved was not/is not the point here. The point is, is that people talk all kinds of "sabbath talk;" yet they cannot share Christ, as the center of the Sabbath. They cannot even describe what this "special blessing" is that's supposed to happen "only" on Sabbath, and prefer instead, to denounce as anti-Christ someone who happens along and questions their understanding.

"The sabbath and all it's attendant joy is not being "absolved" by anything i am posting here. I am saying that many people I have met, and currently study or discuss with also experience a very special blessing in Christ and in fellowship with Him; and it often has nothing to do with the Sabbath.

That will be a pretty hard one to come up with Rondo. Like many other things we say about the sabbath, but cannot really "prove."

I wouldn't want to try and diagram that sentence.

@ Rondo: I could find no medical/scientific evidence that indicates a slower pulse rate on Saturdays.

It's a pretty wacky sentence; and all for nothing. I was not arguing "the sabbath versus Sunday" thing. I was saying that our traditional way of talking about the Sabbath could use some tuning up because it's not right and we cant prove it. The way this person talks; if I were to receive a special blessing/experience with God, say on Wednesday; then I cannot dare say it was better than 'the Sabbath blessing" where I had to go to church and endure all those looks and attitudes because I did not somehow "keep" the Sabbath correctly in someone's eyes. Its not a blessing of any kind to have to keep it a secret how you spent a given Sabbath for fear of the reactions of those who have this "special blessing" that "most of us" cannot ever attain unto.

Oh, I've seen research done on lots of odd ideas. The latest research I read about was a grant for a university to study why children eat boogers. The result is that it is a good thing because it helps a child's immune system. No joke!

But getting back to topic; God's Law, it doesn't need this kind of "defence" with "scientific" evidence like this at all. I mean, getting back to real science and all, if His law was to stop all of a sudden we would all just turn into a big useless blob of jelly and go nowhere. Sometimes, with the Sabbath issue, this is what we see people doing.

Personally, I love the Sabbath, it is a great blessing to me and my family. But some people in the church really make it one of the most difficult days of the week. While it is true that, as others have posted, there is a special blessing in this day, (for those who really love Jesus - Rom 8:28), when I tell people about the Sabbath, one of the things I will always be sure to say is that it is an issue of authority. God's authority, vs a Church's authority. My point is that we can talk all we want about those "special blessings" but it won't convince many for several reasons, depending on who they are.

It is an issue of authority. My Catholic friends all acknowledge this. To them; church authority is the same as "Bible." To us, as Adventists, it may not even seem like a blessing if we are in the medical professions, or if we have other issues going on. If the special blessings of Sabbath are experienced, then maybe it's time we learn to actually tell people specifics about what that is, because many who go to Christ on all other days of the week also receive a special blessing in Christ.

In summary; what is the difference between a "special blessing today, as opposed to one on Sabbath? The issue is one of authority. God won't stop blessing someone who is in another Church; but the lines of His authority are always going to be the same. We have too often made the lines of God's authority into a list of what to do or not to do on Sabbath, but that has nothing to do with the battle over the Bible and over God's authority that is being played out in the great controversy, through the Sabbath, and other issues.

Your point makes more sense now.

So I will try to deepen my answer.

On the Sabbath, the sense of the Lords presence within, is often deeper, the sense of the Lord's presence at worship is often stronger.

That will only make sense to someone who understands what a sense of the Lord's presence is.

Mark :-)

What can be misconstrued is the repeating of the Sabbath characteristics as, "This is what you must do" language. While when repeating the scriptures some find fault with the party writing them down for public consumption, the one who finds the greatest offense is the one whose conscience is most greatly affected by the authority of the Holy Spirit speaking through the Word. It is always easier to destroy the messenger than to take a moment to consider what rejection of the Word might actually accomplish if taken to its' natural end.

"For whosoever keeps the Law [as a] whole but stumbles and offends in one [single instance] has become guilty of [breaking] all of it."James 2:10 AMP

The Seventh Day Adventist body of believers were placed in the course of Divine desire, to speak specifically on things the major portion of the greater body of the Christian Church have chosen to forget, such things that are now rapidly setting the conflict between Christ and satan at loggersheads, the first point being to remember.

"' You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to observe the sabbath day." Deuteronomy 5:15 NASB

Of course, when one subscribes to the idea, they themselves have never been in Egypt (spiritual), it becomes difficult to grasp the freedom found in worshipping during the special hours our Father has designated to meet with His children.

"And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”"John 8:32 NKJV

"They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”"John 8:33 NKJV

"Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'

"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock."Matthew 7:22-24 NASB Emphasis theirs' LHC
