Should vegaterianism be a test of fellowship?

Good Points pk. What I like is that we have a prophet in our church that struggled just as we do. That is very comforting to me. It does not in any way diminish her status as prophet as some might claim.

And don't forget all the Bible Prophets, each and everyone of them struggled. Some even, forget struggle, they went to the dark side on occasion. Like King David, King Solomon, etc.

Yes indeed pk. Praise God we have their examples. Or ... I might become very discouraged.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

LOL Woody, I think that that is the only thing that would have me be discouraged or depressed, etc. I've never understood that, how people that believe in God can get discouraged or depressed, all we have to do is read the Bible and see what many of Gods greatest leaders did and than have there names written in Hebrews as being "righteous" in his sight. Or something to that effect. Now having said that, I'm not saying that people don't get that way. We are all different and see God differently.

Ellen White cautions about using her as a model of what/what not to do:

Quote:
WHATEVER MAY HAVE BEEN THE PRACTICES OR UNDERSTANDING OF OUR PIONEERS ON THIS QUESTION, WE SHOULD NEVER BASE OUR OWN DECISIONS CONCERNING HEALTHFUL LIVING ON THE EXAMPLE OF OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. MRS. WHITE MADE THIS POINT CLEARLY ENOUGH HERSELF IN 1901 DURING AN EXTEMPORANEOUS TALK IN BATTLE CREEK: {MR852 3.4}

[Ellen G. White speaking:] "Sister White has not had meat in her house or cooked it in any line, or any dead flesh, for years and years. And here is the [basis of some people's] health reform: 'Now I have told you Sister White did not eat meat. Now I want you not to eat meat, because Sister White does not eat it.' Well, I would not give--I would not care a farthing for anything like that. If you have not got any better conviction--you won't eat meat because Sister White does not eat any--if I am the authority, I would not give a farthing

for your health reform. What I want is that every one of you should stand in your individual dignity before God, in your individual consecration to God, that the soul-temple shall be dedicated to God. 'Whosoever defileth the temple of God, him will God destroy.' Now I want you to think of these things, and do not make any human being your criterion." {MR852 3.5}

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Well, I guess you believe Coon over Ellen White. I do not. I don't believe she said one thing and did another....that is being a hypocrite or worse - a deceiver. Most people I meet who believe these things about her, are not living the health message themselves, so reading these things make them feel good about their own lives.

There is little sense for me to continue posting on this thread...people will believe what they want to believe...

If this was the case and Jesus was around today, I guess He wouldn't qualify to be an SDA. He ate fish.

Did you know that "clean meat" can become "unclean" if it is unhealthy or killed in an inappropriate way?

According to the Bible.

Consider the pollution in the seas right now and consider the known pollutants in the fish that man has created.

I very much doubt that Jesus ate "THAT" fish....

I think you are holding EGW to an inappropriate standard and misunderstanding what she said and the context of when she said it. You are incorrectly assuming that she had complete light and understanding of the health message and that it was a moral mandate. Her ideas and understanding of the health message developed and changed over time. She was not lying. At the point in time she said it, it was undoubtedly an honest and truthful statement. That she later ate meat reflects a change of circumstances or that she was indeed human and liked to eat meat while struggling to give it up. And when she did not include seafood when she spoke of flesh foods, it reflected a common mis-distinction that persists even to this day.

I think it is you who are choosing to believe what you want to believe, even if it means ignoring the clear facts and evidence presented. To accept the truth of this forces you to revise your view of a perfect and inerrant EGW. That is born of an incorrect view of inspiration and the prophetic gift, IMHO.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
