Neil D Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 It's been over 24 hours and only ONE guy has been moved in an adventist church..... Either we have guys who don't want to say that they have been moved in an Adventist church....or a church that doesn't move many men....... So, guys....what IS the reason that you go to church???? Guest Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 What do you mean 24 hours? I just now saw this thread. Last Sabbath we had a baptism, and I was moved all to pieces. It was all I could do not to cry. Quote

Either we have guys who don't want to say that they have been moved in an Adventist church....or a church that doesn't move many men....... So, guys....what IS the reason that you go to church???? I surely don't go to church to be moved. If it happens and it does especially when I hear certain testimonies or a beautiful rendition of a song, then it happens. Why is this only being addressed to men? The reason I go to church is to worship, not be entertained to the point of losing it emotionally. Neil D Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 Why is this only being addressed to men? The reason I go to church is to worship, not be entertained to the point of losing it emotionally. Alex Because if I wanted your opinion of why men in general go to church, I would get just your opinion. And there are lots of others who seem to have an opinion on this subject....So, excuse me if I don't accept what they say blindly...'cus I don't want your opinon of why OTHER MEN [or women] go to church...I want YOUR reason for YOU going to church...I want to compare it with what others record as to why men go to church...I want to know if what I am reading is true.... So, you go to church because .... 1] it's the right thing to do...? 2] your wife tells you that it's good for your family? 3] you got nothing better to do 4] you were touched by the sermon and it's the reason you keep coming back 5] other-specify 6] some combination of the above Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Members abelisle Posted December 24, 2010 Members Posted December 24, 2010 Relax Neil It's too close to Christmas to get upset. As they say "Chill out . . ." It's the perfect season for chillin', that's for sure! Alex Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
Neil D Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 What do you mean 24 hours? I just now saw this thread. Last Sabbath we had a baptism, and I was moved all to pieces. It was all I could do not to cry. So.....you go to church because......you hope to see a baptism??? That is what moves you??? The hope to see the possiblity of a baptism? How many do you get to see? 1 a month? Every week? Once a year? Are you sure that this is the answer you want to give? According to my reading, in general, guys want something that they can believe in. They want to establish, support, build upon something that is of value, of worth, that is something worthy of them....That is only ONE reason that they [men] go to church.... It appears to me that your answer isn't really all that clear as to why you go to church....because, as a guy, Richard....you sure aren't acting like a male... According to you, you go to church to watch men give thier lives to something...IOWs, you are on the sidelines, looking in and desiring to become what you think they are becoming....You go to church to [if it was a male] watch a male become a male, to do male things....IOWs, you go to be entertained,.... to pander the desire to be a real man.... Is that the answer you want to go on record for?....Would you like to clarify your answer a bit? I really want to hear your answer be a bit more specific..... and guys....be as specicfic as you can as to why you go to church.... Neil D Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 So, you go to church to experience something of value....? and what might that be....... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw

Are you sure you are able to be the judge, and tell people what it means to act like a male? I don't see how you get all this out of Richard's post. You have to be doing a lot of conjecturing to see all of that in what he said. All Richard said is that he has been "moved" in an SDA church recently. Is there a certain reason why a "man" must go to church in order to be acting like a male? Some people may not want to tell their reasons for going to church if they get the kind of response that you gave. SivartM Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 The only time I'm moved in church is if there is a particularly good song played. But my family says I never really get excited about anything. Which is odd, considering how emotional I can be. You even quoted me as saying "It appears...your answer...isn't really clear...." second, I am reading books on Men's ministry. These books have defined what men are generally like. I am comparing these findings with the men here. Hence, the reason for a "just guys" thread. Third, according to these books, without trying to color any more of this informal inquiry, some of the answers given are answers that men who are hen pecked, who are decieving themselves, who are spectators may give.... Moderators John317 Posted December 24, 2010 Moderators Posted December 24, 2010 The following are good reasons, in no certain order, to go to church on the Sabbath. All of them have been reasons why I go to church. 1) Because it is where you believe God wants you to be. 2) Because you enjoy the fellowship of other like-minded believers. 3) Because you enjoy the Bible study, prayer, singing of hymns, and worship of God. 4) Because you get a spiritual blessing from the sermons. 6) Because you want to see friends you know at church and encourage and be encouraged by them. 7) Because you love Jesus and you are especially conscious of his presence and of the presence of the angels and of the Holy Spirti in the worship service. 8) Because you are friends of the pastor and you enjoy talking to him. 9) Because Christ went to the church of his day on the Sabbath. 10) Because you've always gone to church and it's a good habit to be into. 11) Because you have duties to perform as a church officer or teacher. 12) Because you've invited neighbors to church and you take them there and want to worship and study with them. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators John317 Posted December 24, 2010 Moderators Posted December 24, 2010 Forth, I didn't "judge"... You are judging that Richard Holbrook is "not acting like a male." You told Richard, "....because, as a guy, Richard....you sure aren't acting like a male..." Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Neil D Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 In the context of "It appears...your answer...isn't clear"...and the declaration of reading books on men ministry that define who and what men do ,...I am NOT judging... I guess, though, it can be taken that way....sorry to all... again, please....do not highjack this thread... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. LifeHiscost Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 We, my wife and I, (my wife and I are one so guess I'm a guy) have various reasons but the greatest single reason is that we wish to worship Jesus and that is where He has invited us to meet with Him. Illness has kept us away a lot recently but we have found Jesus willing to come to our home, especially as we spend time in Bible reading and prayer and as a result of being able to access good religious programs on TV. Watching so many of the programs that reveal Jesus, over and over again, has produced in me personally a sense of disappointment in the world we enter every time we leave the house. It's almost as if Jesus is preparing us, maybe, for a much closer one on One meeting with Jesus than perhaps the ones who are going to remain to face the final time of tribulation. "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."Hebrews 10:24-26 NKJV "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” "John 11:26 NKJV God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Guest Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 I think a good first step in being able to understand others, would be to learn the difference between the words "WHEN" and "WHY". There IS a difference. Or, if that's too hard, maybe next time you decide to change the question after you've already gotten a few answers, you could just start a new thread. Just a thought. Trying to help. ...Merry Christmas! Quote
Gary K Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Why do I go to church? Because God asked us to meet Him there on the seventh day, and Ezekiel 20:12,20 are the reasons why He asked us to be there. What moves me in church? When I am convicted of my desperate need of a Saviour because I'm shown, once again, the condition of my heart, and then pointed to the love of Christ. Quote
Gary K Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 This nonsensical rambling on about why you THINK I go to church, and what you THINK I must be like on the inside, based on my answer of WHEN, not WHY, would be funny if it weren't so pathetic. You come off as someone trying to sound really intelligent, but failing miserably. Also I think people who try to learn about real life from books are downright pitiful. Well, Richard, I'll disagree with at least a part of your statement. I've learned a whole lot about life, the purpose of life, and human nature from the Bible and it is a book. I hope you don't find that pitiful too.... Quote
Guest Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Not at all. I was referring to psychology type books mainly. Quote
Gary K Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Richard, I was mainly joking with you, but at the same time pointing out that learning about life from books is not all bad. Quote

Gary K Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Can we have a Christmas truce? I see where this was a reply to Neil, but I'll enter into a truce with you until New Years, if you feel that I've been at war with you. After that, can we argue to our hearts content? Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted December 25, 2010 Moderators Posted December 25, 2010 Pretty much a plea (and an offer) to everyone. (I (almost) never feel at war with anyone here, but clearly there is some rancor floating about and it'd be nice if we could all just get along for one day at least...) Quote Truth is important
