Dr. Rich Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 LOL, Clearly we are not on the same page. Rev. 2:14 is NOT about putting things into your mouth and eating them--it is a symbol of taking the lies from others who profess to be from God, but really are wolves in sheep's clothing. Food from Jesus Christ is the truth. Food sacrificed to false gods/idols are lies. Do you understand the difference? Quote
Moderators Gerr Posted March 8, 2011 Moderators Posted March 8, 2011 Gerry, thanks for the personal attack. ... Moses was no idiot and neither was God. What ever happened to common sense? That's no attack. That's a dare, since you are quoting the text that seems to give a blanket freedom to eat anything one wants. And here is what you said: "Just because some idiot tells you that these foods are unclean does NOT make them unclean. Many Adventists have lorded it over others not to do things that they can't back up from the words of Jesus Christ. Ever since 1888 they started to pick and choose what verses in the bible they want to believe and which ones they don't want to believe. The truth is there--but YOU must first seek it." Who was the "idiot" that pronounced certain things as unclean for consumption? Quote

Administrators Gail Posted March 9, 2011 Administrators Posted March 9, 2011 Quote: Some people claim that Mark 7:18-20 means that we cannot be defiled by what we eat. It's kinda off topic, but this statement reminds me of a chat I had once about the Ganges river. It is held as sacred but it is polluted as anything and it's not healing itself. IOW it's not really THAT clean! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Moderators Bravus Posted March 9, 2011 Moderators Posted March 9, 2011 One of the points that's perhaps being missed is Dr Rich's view (for which I have some sympathy) that not all Bible texts are created equal. The words of Jesus 'trump' the words of Paul, for example. Guess it's controversial, but understanding might avoid the worst of the talking-at-cross-purposes problem. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 The words of Jesus 'trump' the words of Paul.. What about the Holy Ghost? According to Acts 15:28, the Holy Ghost seems to think we shouldn't be eating blood, things strangled or meat offered to idols. Could it be that the Holy Ghost misunderstood the teachings of Jesus? Moderators Bravus Posted March 9, 2011 Moderators Posted March 9, 2011 Hmm, this is someone else writing about what the Holy Ghost wants, of course... Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Well, that goes back to Sola Scriptura and the inspiration of the Bible. If a person doesn't buy into the Sola Scriptura thing, naturally they are not going to agree with someone who does. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators Bravus Posted March 9, 2011 Moderators Posted March 9, 2011 Just clarifying that, as is often the case, I'm explaining, not adopting. Quote Truth is important
