Igakusei Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Says who? Is it written somewhere that the Ten Commandments are bad advice? Maybe in one of Dawkin's books? Or were you referring to the advice not to drink and drive? I didn't realize that the Bible told me not to drink and drive. What makes you think I would take anything Dawkins says as gospel? I simply don't think that the Bible has a monopoly on good advice. I very carefully admitted that there was good advice there, but there is also a lot of bad advice. When you take it all as inspired word, you get both. Quote I believe in life before death

Or are you simply claiming to be an expert in epistemology now? Either way - How did you get to that point? in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.

Or are you simply claiming to be an expert in epistemology now? Either way - How did you get to that point? in Christ, Bob So far I haven't been impressed with your ability to lecture on anything. You're arrogant, condescending, hopelessly dishonest, and consistently display a shocking inability to understand anything anyone has said in an attempt to correct any of the above attributes. The way you sign every post with "in Christ" reminds me of the following quote by Mahatma Gandhi: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." I'm not claiming to be an expert in anything, but if you can't see the harm that the Bible is repeatedly used to justify than I'm not sure what else I can say to you. There's a reason I stopped responding to you in the other forum. http://www.reddit.com/r/troubledteens/comments/hk0xy/a_gay_teen_describes_her_experience_at_a_utah/ How about this one, do you see anything wrong here? Igakusei Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 ... Historical Gramatical method of hermeneutics and the value of exegesis in interpreting the text? Or are you simply claiming to be an expert in epistemology now? ... Those are all valid words with significant meaning behind them, but the way you use them all I hear is "cherry-picking." Moderators Gerr Posted May 28, 2011 Moderators Posted May 28, 2011 How do you know that your quote is fact. Is everything in the Bible fact? Again, it is your opinion that it is fact. Because it came from someone who cannot lie, and whose words have been purified 7x. And we'll find out soon enough whether it's fact, fiction, or merely opinion. Quote
Igakusei Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Because it came from someone who cannot lie, and whose words have been purified 7x. Did God make Adam before or after plants? Before or after animals? There are two lies, and I didn't even need to reference the scientific evidence that demonstrates the whole thing is hogwash. I didn't even need to flip to the second page! mrsducky Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:14 Quote
Igakusei Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 And we'll find out soon enough whether it's fact, fiction, or merely opinion. No, I don't think we will. Actually the Apostle Peter foresaw such an attitude to take place: NIV84 | 2 Pe 3:3 "First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men." Noah, no doubt, had at the beginning of his preaching more people that believed than the 8 that survived the Flood. But 50 and 100 yreas went by, they probably became skeptical and abandoned their belief. The deluge eventually came anyway. God is holding out longer because He loves people, and wants as many people saved as He possibly can. NIV84 | 2 Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Quote

ClubV12 Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I have no problem thinking the very moment Adam was created he was already, if measured with any of current modern technigues, a man of some "age". Put whatever number you want on it. 20? 35? 110? The point is, he was actually "1 minute" old. Same principle applies to the earth, the sun and moon, "ancient" at the instant of creation. That principle does NOT apply to MOST other heavenly bodies, milky ways, galaxies, etc. etc. Most have in fact really been here "millions of years". God created THIS earth and it's greater and lesser light. Don't assume He, at the same time, created "everything else". This earth was nothing more than "just another planet", among many, in a long history of planet making. We aint that special, except in the regard that THIS planet entered into sin. We are the only planet to have done so, the only planet for whom Christ had to die to save us from ourselves. Without His sacrafice, we, along with this planet, would have ceased to exist. For the penalty of sin is death as demanded by the law, Gods law. A law He honors above all things, even unto the death of His own son. Without the law, there could be no possibility of peace in the Universe, it is of paramount importance. While physical and scientific laws can be changed, by God, or suspended by Him, the spiritual law is eternal and unchanging. God is not bound by His "natural laws" that run the Universe. He spoke such laws into existence and He can, if he chose to, speak them out, change them, use them for His pleasure. Like when He made the sun stand still in the biblical record. He created the sun, He can do what He wants with it! Quote

He created the sun, He can do what He wants with it! That's fine, but why did he need to create life with DNA that confirms common ancestry? Did he put it there just to confuse us? Why is there telomeric DNA and an extra centromere in the middle of chromosome 2? What's with all the ERVs? Is that just part of "creating a world with the appearance of age?" The only answers I can find to these questions are that life actually does share common ancestry. Quote I believe in life before death
LifeHiscost Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I believe that there are a lot of problems out there that have better solutions than those offered by Christianity, and so I resent that so many Christians feel that it is their spiritual duty to "tell someone else what they need to do." In that regard, things haven't changed much, have they? And so did A&E. After they opened the way for sin, they actually thought that one of there sons would be the Messiah. To save the world from sin. That's why they had the sacrificial system in place. As far as the second coming only the NT followers believed this. The disciples believed that the second coming would be in there life time.Had the Jews accepted Jesus, I believe they would have been correct. The original purpose of the Hebrew nation was to show God's love throughout the than known world, but they never did. That's why Jesus told his followers to spread the gospel to every part of the world. He also gave them, when they asked him, the signs of his return. If we've noticed most of the signs are pretty much past, not many more to go. God's time table is not like ours. We want everything to happen right now.
