A "theological question" pastors fail to answer.

Hello Fellow Theologians,

There is a Scripture passage in the New Testament that is read as follows:

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1 Cor. 15:3, 4)

The New Testament was not available at the time Paul wrote to the Corinthians.

Do you know which Scripture the Apostle was referring to? Please share. (I doubt you will find the answer in SOP.)

Luke 23 tells us that Sunday was the third say - as is reported by Christ's disciples -- as they unknowingly talked with him on their way to Emmaus.

Paul is right.

Luke is right.

Hosea is the one that speaks of rising on the third day. Hos 6:2

That's an interesting one; I don't think I've seen that Hosea quote cited before. It seems to be talking about Him raising others up, though?

If any one cares to read through this thread carefully, they will find the satisfactory answer in clear language and supported by the Bible. The Spirit of the living God has revealed the answer by His messenger, and because one or more of you were waiting for "the prophet" to admit his treachery and give you the answer, you missed it.

Sounds so much like the Jews.

A good promise to remember is Joel 2:28, 29.

"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit."

As I reread your comments above, I realized that you may have missed my initial investigation from the OP.

In 1 Cor. 15:3, "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;" can be derived from several OT texts. That is easy enough.

The "problem verse" is 1 Cor. 15:4:

"...he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

I have never received a satisfactory answer to what "Scriptures" Paul was referring to -- well, except until this thread.

Indeed, the "three days" is the pertinent question, how did Jesus teach THAT in the synagogue? Or, did He? Hosea 6:2? References to Jonah? Other verses we have missed? A combination of verses?

We know He taught in the synagogue that He was the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies of a coming Messiah. Using only the Old Testament for His "sermon". Did He also teach, from the Old Testament, that He would also be killed and raised up in three days?

I recall Matthew 17:1 where He spent 6 days (or eight, depending on how you count the days) alone with the disciples explaining His coming death in person. Ending in the transfiguration revelation. It appears that it took several days, or four or five, for this to sink in. The disciples quietly conversed about what Jesus had just told them. What could it mean? What could they do to stop Him from being killed? He should not return to Jerusalem they decided! I suspect they completely missed the resurrection part, or did Jesus even tell them that part? They were to focused on His death to hear it, regardless. But if He DID tell them of the resurrection He must have quoted Old Testament scripture to do so. I wonder what verses He used...

Hey Miz, not to seem rude or anything, but you seem to have a real obsession going here. You really aren't contributing anything to the conversation, but you are certainly trying to throw in a distraction to "prove" yourself right as often as you can. Wouldn't it be better to just let the conversation flow, and if someone's teaching heresy it'll come out naturally, without anyone's help? Just my thoughts on this.
