Thank you Gibs for this link. I also enjoyed reading the statement underneath the video. I copied and pasted it here. So others that don't intend to watch the video can read it also.

Some people say the Sabbath was changed to Sunday in honour of the resurrection and others say it was nailed to the cross. Others will tell you any day can be kept as the Sabbath day as long as you keep one. And still others will say as long as you do everything to the glory of God you don't have to keep God's true Sabbath day. And yet still others say it is legalism. Others will say that the law is gone but when you ask if you can break the Commandments it seems that you still have to obey all but one so the law ending apparently is only one law. In my time of sharing truth, I have received over 100 hundred reasons as to why one of God's eternal Commandments does not have to be obeyed. Is it just me or does it seem strange that there is such an incredible number of excuses to avoid one Commandment? There is a good reason for this and it has to do with a fallen angel that desires to be worshipped as God but on his chosen day in favour of Sun worship and a day that is detestable to God.

If God spoke to you personally, and told you that He loves you and sent His only Son to die for you and that He wants you to spend quality time with Him on a specific day that He blessed and sanctified, how would you reply to Him? Would you say, "sorry God, that day is not convenient for me" or "no God, I can't spend that time with you on your Holy day, that's legalism" or even, "it does not matter which day God, how about Sunday. I know it is a day that was used for sun worship that you detest but it doesn't matter does it?" Is this what we would really say? Why is it so hard for us to rest in Jesus on His Holy day?

Christians that know how to keep the Sabbath say it is a blessing and their favourite day of the week. The Sabbath is quality time with family and relaxing and fellowshipping with God and other Christians. Why are there people in the world so determined to take this blessing from those who keep the Sabbath properly and in the way Jesus intended? If those who condemn Christians who choose to be obedient to God and convince others they don't have to spend this quality time with God are wrong, they are in very serious trouble. If those that enjoy keeping the Sabbath and do so are wrong, God will have no punishment whatsoever for those who just wanted to obey Him in love. Why do so many people try so hard to justify why we don't have to spend this quality time with God on His Holy day? The Sabbath should be our favourite day of the week and it is for those who keep it according to the Bible. God says we are to find this day a delight and a blessing. Isaiah 58:13-14 "If you turn away your foot from the sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shall honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shall you delight thyself in the LORD..."

It appears that everyone has a different idea about this issue of the Seventh day Sabbath truth. God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33) and when there is so much confusion and conflicting information you know that Satan has been hard at work and one needs to diligently investigate with an open mind and find the real truth. Those that now understand this deception call it Histories greatest hoax.

Today there are more than 500 denominations that know the Sabbath truth including the Roman Catholic Church as they are responsible for changing the day in favour of Sun worship. The Catholic Church regularly write quotes saying this is a mark of their authority and power that they have over God and the Bible and this is also indisputably supported by history. They also openly admit that Saturday is still the true Sabbath and should be kept by those who choose to follow the Bible and the Bible alone. Why is it that they are the only Church that knows this truth and acknowledges it? Why are so many other Christians and Churches so desperate to deny this fact? Don't they love God or are they just following an extremely well perpetuated lie by the enemy? If you want more detail on the Sabbath truth or how the change came about, visit www.sabbathtruth.com

"There is a good reason for this and it has to do with a fallen angel that desires to be worshipped as God but on his chosen day in favour of Sun worship and a day that is detestable to God."

This always amuses me. Saturday is a day to worship Saturn, if we want to pick on the names of days. And of course, only the SDA worships the sun, by determining that the sun decides when they can worship.

" If those that enjoy keeping the Sabbath and do so are wrong, God will have no punishment whatsoever for those who just wanted to obey Him in love. "

This is also a crazy statement. If I do what God doesn't want me to, but I am doing something sincerely, God doesn't mind that I am ignoring what He said ?

BibleOnly,

You state,

" If those that enjoy keeping the Sabbath and do so are wrong, God will have no punishment whatsoever for those who just wanted to obey Him in love. "

You need to heed the scriptures that pertain to the validity of them and what is expected of Him Who Gave Them, Jesus Christ.

1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Mt 5:17 ¶ Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Mt 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Next is the one to pay very close attention to. Know this He says what He means and Means What He Says.

Mt 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Joh 14:15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments.

1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

The fact is that they are grievous to some, Why?

Ponder that "Love" statement.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

This makes me think of Jews who said to converted Gentiles 'if you don't cut the end off your penis, and God wants you to, then you go to hell, but if you do cut it off, why would God care ?'

Why would I want to print an article that probably focuses on the idea that the day was moved to Sunday ( which I've never said ) on the basis that I should care what 'major denominations' care, over the bible ?

This is all arguing with a straw man. As has been shown, His commandments are not just the 10, they are the things Jesus said. The Sabbath is not a grievous thing, it's a day off. The fact that you like a day with your family does not mean that God requires it from you and the idea that satan's great victory in your eyes will be to force atheists to worship Jesus on the wrong day, is the logical conclusion of your views, but it is flat out ridiculous.

At the core, this is a repeat of the discussion on if the word 'commandments' means the 10, or if it means what Jesus said. So, it's not worth repeating here.

Have your way there BibleOnly as He has left you to choose for yourself of whom you will follow.

For me I will go with a plain thus saith The Lord God. True Love in us is also a transcript of those 10 commandments of Love. Our Love when converted to Him and only Him totally is the same as His. That Love in us and these are in our heart also and not minus that one so many for some odd reason don't want to comply with. Why is it alone grievous to so many, I simply cannot understand that..

I must say it looks to me that you are venturing on dangerous ground. Don't do it, you will find a peace you never had before when it also is allowed a place in your heart. The reason is then the law of the 10 won't be revived and when it does it is like Paul said, I died. Died? Yes it revealed the sin.

What is sin? 1Jo 3:4 ¶ Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

This is how sin is known and found out by us.

Ro 7:7 ¶ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Nary a one of them can be removed or disobeyed or it condemns him who does then as a sinner.

No you are not under the law until you are disobedient and break one, then it is revived and you are dead again in sin.

You are under grace when that law is in your heart, your love and character to do and then being one in Jesus Christ. But any can fall out of grace at any time and again needs to come in sincere and full repentance again or continue with the other master.

The mystery to the Gentiles Paul revealed is "Christ in you the Hope of Glory". You see the Jews knew this. And again,

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

See, I fully expected this sort of reply. But, as far as I am concerned, Paul stated that we're not children of the bondwoman ( Sinai ) but the free ( Jerusalem ) and Hebrews makes absolutely clear why it is that the Sabbath is not a forced day of no natural work any more. I can see how the human mind tends to legalism, that's why God gave us His Law in a legalistic way to start with, if asked, that's what we would have wanted. But making the word 'commandment' in the NT always mean the 10, is the same as JW's making the word Lord always be 'Jehovah' in their bible. It's forced and it misses the point. Either you keep the golden rule, or you only keep the 10 commandments. Yes, I have chosen which of those I'd prefer to do, and whose child I'd prefer to be. :-)

Merry Christmas. It's Christmas morning in Australia.

QED, every SDA I've spoken to at length, comes back to arguing that the Sabbath was never moved. So, it seems obvious to me that will be the major assumption of any article. In any case, I'm familiar with the arguments that are generally put forward.

I have spent 18 months honestly being willing to go to church on Saturday if God wants me to. I am yet to see any argument that is not presupposed on the idea that Jesus didn't come to teach us anything and 'His commandments' are therefore solely and entirely the 10.

Hbr 4:1 ¶ Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left [us] of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

Hbr 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it].

Hbr 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

We who believe, enter in to rest. Not once a week, not in and out.

Hbr 4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

Hbr 4:5 And in this [place] again, If they shall enter into my rest.

Hbr 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Hbr 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Hbr 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

Another day ?

Hbr 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

Hbr 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God [did] from his.

Hbr 4:11 ¶ Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

This, I do. But, Jerusalem, not Sinai. Why would Paul even say that, if we're still bound to the 10 commandments literally in the form they were given there ?

Posted

BibleOnly,

You state, "This, I do. But, Jerusalem, not Sinai. Why would Paul even say that, if we're still bound to the 10 commandments literally in the form they were given there ?"

Paul isn't saying Jesus spoke of another day but then makes it clear in Heb 4:10 above that it is the day He entered into His Rest, that Seventh Day.

You also need to know it was Jesus Christ before Bethlehem who was that creator. Now also He never changes,

Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Also the copy He made for Moses to keep in the earthly tabernacle which was a pattern of the one in Heaven Was a copy of them in the Heavenly Sanctuary.

Now those are put on display, of which Moses was made a copy and forever eternally will be.

Re 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

We can trust Him because He Changeth not. What if He changed things all the time, wouldn't we all have a wonder time? But I assure you it wouldn't be a WONDERFUL time.

Well, you're free to follow the 10 commandments instead of the golden rule if you want to. But Paul said, no-one was saved that way, nor could they be.

Hbr 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Hbr 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

Today and another day can't both be references to the same day, which is only 'today' once a week. It just doesn't work. That's not what those words mean.

1Cr 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1Cr 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

If I am the temple of the Holy Ghost, how is Saturday more holy than any other day, inside the temple ?

The Bible reminds us that it's what comes out of our mouth that condemns us, not what goes in. In the same way, do you really think that God cares less about how I live my day to day life, than He does on if I earn any money on a Saturday ?

My dear BibleOnly,

You are truly amazing!

Merry Christmas!

Q.E.D.

Well, I read it, and I was right. It's ALL about human opinion on the idea that the Sabbath is Saturday and not Sunday. The blind leading the blind. I don't care, not one scripture was quoted, and I never base my interpretation of the Bible on a straw poll of which human opinion is most popular.

Hi BibleOnly,

I thought I would post these 62 quotes so everyone will know what you are refering to as just "human opinion" . . .

Sunday Sacred and Holy?

1 Candid Confessions of the Anglican Church!

“Where are we told in Scripture that we are to keep the first day at all? We are commanded to keep the seventh; but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day...The reason why we keep the first day of the week holy instead of the seventh is for the same reason that we observe many other things, not because the Bible, but because the church has enjoined it.” Isaac Willliams, D. D., Plain Sermons

on the Catechism, Vol.1, pp 334-336

2 Candid Confessions of the Anglican Church!

“We have made the change from the seventh day to the first day, from Saturday to sunday, on the authority of one holy Catholic Church.” Bishop Seymour, Why We Keep Sunday, Article 12

3 Candid Confessions of the Church of Christ!

“I do not believe that the Lord’s day came in the room (place) of the Jewish Sabbath, or that that the Sabbath was changed from the seventh to the first day, for this plain reason, where there is no testimony, there can be no faith. Now there is no testimony in all the Oracles that the Sabbath was changed, or that the Lord’s day came in the room (place) of it.” Quote from the founder of the Church of Christ, Alexander Campbell, in the Washington Reporter, Oct. 8, 1821.

4 Candid Confessions of the Church of Christ!

“There is no direct scriptural authority for designating the first day the Lord’s day.” Dr. D. H. Lucas, Christian Oracle, Jan. 23, 1890.

5 Candid Confessions of the Church of Christ!

“The seventh day was observed from Abrahams time, nay, from creation. The Jews itentified their own history with the institution of the Sabbath day. They loved and venerated it as a patriarchal usage.” “The evidence of Christianity” Page 302 Saint Louis: Christian Publishing co. 1906, Quoted from a debate between Robert Owen and Alexander Campbell (The founder of the Church of Christ), Saint Louis: Christian Publishing co. 1906.

6 Candid Confessions of the Church of Christ!

“But we do not find any direct command from God, or instruction from the risen Christ, or admonition from the early apostles, that the first day is to be substituted for the seventh day Sabbath.” “Let us be clear on this point. Though to the Christian ‘that day, the first day of the week’ is the most memorable of all days ... there is no command or warrant in the New Testament for observing it as a holy day.” “The Roman Church selected the first day of the week in honour of the resurrection of Christ. ...” Bible Standard, May, 1916, Auckland, New Zealand.

7 Candid Confessions of the Church of Christ!

“... If the fourth command is binding upon us Gentiles by all means keep it. But let those who demand a strict observance of the Sabbath remember that the seventh day is the ONLY sabbath day commanded, and God never repealed that command. If you would keep the Sabbath, keep it; but Sunday is not the Sabbath. The argument of the ‘Seventh-day Adventists’ is on one point unassailable. It is the Seventh day not the first day that the command refers to.” G. Alridge, Editor, The Bible Standard, April, 1916.

8 Candid Confessions of the Baptist Church!

“We Believe that the law of God is the eternal and imperishable rule of His moral government.” Baptist Church Manual

9 Candid Confessions of the Baptist Church!

“The first four commandments set forth man’s obligations directly toward God...The fourth commanment sets forth God’s claim on man’s time and thought...Not one of the Ten Words (the 10 Commandments) is of merely racial significance...The Sabbath was established originally (long before Moses) in no special connection with the Hebrews, but as an institution for all mankind, in comemoration of Gods’s rest after six days of creation. It was designed for all the descendants of Adam.” Adult Quarterly, Southern Baptist Convention series, Aug. 15, 1937

10 Candid Confessions of the Baptist Church!

“There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath was not Sunday. Earnestly desiring information on this subject, which I have studied for many years, I ask, where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament; absolutely not. There is no Scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath institution from the seventh to the first day of the week ... Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christian history as a religious day. But what a pity that it comes branded with the mark of paganism and christened withthe name of the sun god, when adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to protestantism.” “ Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, author of The Baptist Manual (still in print!!), in a paper read before New York ministers’ conference held Nov. 13, 1893

11 Candid Confessions of the Congregationalist Church!

“The current notion that Christ and His apostles authoritatively substituted the first day for the seventh, is absolutely without authority in the New Testament.” Dr. Lyman Abbott, Christian Union, Jan 19, 1882.

12 Candid Confessions of the Congregationalist Church!

“It must be confessed that there is no law in the New Testament concerning the first day (Sunday).” Buck’s Theological Dictionary

13 Candid Confessions of the Congregationalist Church!

“It is clear that, however rigidly or devoutly we may spend Sunday, we are not keeping the Sabbath...The Sabbath was founded on a specific divine command. We can plead no such command for the obligation to observe Sunday ... There is not a single sentence in the New Testament to suggest that we incur any penalty by violating the supposed sanctity of Sunday.” Dr. Dale, The Ten Commandments, pp. 106, 107.

14 Candid Confessions of the Lutheran Church!

“I wonder exceedingly how it came to be imputed to me that I should reject the law of Ten Commandments...Whosoever abrogates the law must of necessity abrogate sin also.” Martin Luther, Spiritual Antichrist, pages 71, 72

15 Candid Confessions of the Lutheran Church!

“The observance of the Lord’s Day (Sunday) is founded not on any command of God, but on the authority of the Church.” Augsburg Confession of Faith.

16 Candid Confessions of the Lutheran Church!

“They (the Catholics) allege the Sabbath changed into Sunday, the Lord’s day, contrary to the decalogue, as it appears, neither is there any example more boasted of than the changing of the Sabbath day. Great, they say, is the power and authority of the church, since it dispensed with one of the Ten Commandments.” Martin Luther, Augsburg Confession of Faith, Article 28 par. 9.

17 Candid Confessions of the Lutheran Church!

“But they err in teaching that Sunday has taken the place of the Old Testament Sabbath and therefore must be kept as the seventh day had to be kept by the children of Israel. In other words, they insist that Sunday is the divinely appointed New Testament Sabbath, and so they endeavor to enforce the Sabbatical observance of Sunday by so-called blue laws... These churches err in their teaching, for Scripture has in no way ordained the first day of the week in place of the Sabbath. There is simply no law in the New Testament to that effect.” John T. Mueller, Sabbath or Sunday?, Pages 15, 16.

18 Candid Confessions of the Methodist Church!

“This ‘handwriting of ordinances’ our Lord did blot out, take away, and nail to His cross. (Colossians 2;14). But the moral law contained in the Ten Commandments, and enforced by the prophets, He did not take away,,,The moral law (the Ten Commandments) stands on an entirely different foundation from the ceremonial or ritual law...Every part of this law must remain in force upon all mankind and in all ages.” John Wesley, Sermons on Several Occasions, 2 vol, ed., Vol. 1, pages 221, 222

19 Candid Confessions of the Methodist Church!

“The Sabbbath was made for MAN; not for the Hebrews, but for all men.” E.O. Haven, Pillars of Truth, Page 88.

20 Candid Confessions of the Methodist Church!

“It is true that there is no positive command for infant baptism. Nor is there any for keeping holy the first day of the week. Many believe that Christ changed the sabbath. But, from his own words, we see that he came for no such purpose. Those who believe that Jesus changed the sabbath base it ONLY on a SUPPOSITION.” -Amos Binney, “Theological Compendium” pp. 180-181

21 Candid Confessions of the Methodist Church!

“The Sabbath instituted in the beginning, and confirmed again and again by Moses and the prophets, has never been abrogated. A part of the moral law, not a jot or a tittle of its sanctity has been taken away.” Bishops Pastoral.

22 Candid Confessions of the Moody Bible Institute!

“The Sabbath was binding in Eden, and it has been in force ever since. The fourth commandment begins with the word ‘remember’ showing that the Sabbath already existed when God wrote the law on the tables of stone at Sinai. How can men claim that this one commandment has been done away when they will admit that the other nine are still binding?” Dwight L. Moody, Weighed and Wanting, Page 47.

23 Candid Confessions of the Moody Bible Institute!

“When Christ was on earth He did nothing to set it (the Sabbath) aside; He freed it from the traces under which the scribes and Pharisees had put it, and gave it its true place. ‘The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.’ It is just as practicable and as necessary for men today as it ever was—in fact, more than ever, because we live in such an intense age.” Dwight L. Moody, Weighed and Wanting, Page 46

24 Candid Confessions of Presbyterian Church!

“The Sabbath is part of the decalogue — The Ten commandments. This alone forever settles the question as to the perpetuity of the institution...Until therefore it can be shown that the whole moral law has been repealed, the Sabbath will stand... The teaching of Christ confirms the perpetuity of the Sabbath.” T.C. Blake, D. D., Theology Condensed, Pages 474, 475.

25 Candid Confessions of Presbyterian Church!

“We must not imagine that the coming of Christ has freed us from the authority of the law; for it is the eternal rule of a devout and holy life, and must therefore be as unchangeable as the justice of God, which it embraced, is constant and uniform.” John Calvin, Commentary on a Harmony of the

Gospels, Volume 1, Page 277.

26 Candid Confessions of Presbyterian Church!

“For the permanency of the Sabbath, we might argue for its place in the decalogue, where it stands enshrined among the moralities of a rectitude that is immutable and everlasting.” Thomas Chalmers, D. D., Sermons, Volume 1, page 51

27 Candid Confessions of Presbyterian Church!

“The Christian Sabbath (Sunday) is not in the Scriptures, and was not by the primitive church called the Sabbath.” Dwight’s Theology, Vol. 14, p. 401.

28 Candid Confessions of Presbyterian Church!

“A further argument for the perpetuity of the Sabbath we have in Matthew 24:20, Pray ye that your flight be not in the winter neither on the Sabbath day. But the final destruction of Jerusalem was after the Christian dispensation was fully set up (AD 70). Yet it is plainly implied in these words of the Lord that even then Christians were bound to strict observation of the Sabbath.”Works of Jonathon Edwards, (Presby.) Vol. 4, p. 621.

29 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“From this same Catholic Church you have accepted your Sunday, and that Sunday, as the Lord’s day, she had handed down as a tradition; and the entire Protestant world has accepted it as tradition, for you have not an iota of Scripture to establish it. Therefore that which you have accepted as your rule of faith, inadequate as it of course it is, as well as your Sunday, you have accepted on the authority of the Roman Catholic Church.” D. B. Ray, The Papal Controversy, 1892, page 179

30 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“I have repeatedly offered $1000 to anyone who can prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says, ‘Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.’ The Catholic Church says: ‘No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week.’ And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church. Priest Thomas Enright, CSSR, President of Redemptorist College, Kansas City, Missouri, in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, and printed in the American Sentinel, June 1883, a New York Roman Catholic journal.

31 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“The Catholic Church for over one thousand years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her Divine mission, changed the day [of worship] from Saturday to Sunday. ... The Christian Sabbath is therefore to this day the acknowledged offspring of the Catholic Church, as Spouse of the Holy Ghost, without a word of remonstrance from the Protestant world.” Editorial, The Catholic Mirror (Baltimore), September 23, 1893.

32 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify.” Cardinal Gibbons (for many years head of the Catholic Church in America), The Faith of Our Fathers (92d ed., rev.; Baltimore: John Murphy Company), p. 89.

33 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Reason and sense demand the acceptance of one or the other of these alternatives: either Protestantism and the keeping holy of Saturday or Catholicity and he keeping holy of Sunday. Compromise is impossible.” James Cardinal Gibbons, Catholic Mirror, Dec. 23, 1893.

34 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath Day, that is the 7th day of the week, Saturday. Today most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the [Catholic] Church outside the Bible.” “To Tell You the Truth,” The Catholic Virginian, 22 (October 3, 1947), 9.

35 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“The Divine institution of a day of rest from ordinary occupations and of religious worship, transferred by the authority of the [Catholic] Church from the Sabbath, the last day, to Sunday the first day of the week, ... is one of the most patent signs that we are a Christian people.” James Cardinal Gibbons, The Cross and the Flag, Our Church and Country (New York: The Catholic Historical League of America, 1899), pp. 24, 25.

36 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Sunday is founded, not on Scripture, but on tradition, and is distinctly a Catholic institution. As there is no Scripture for the transfer of the day of rest from the last to the first day of the week, Protestants ought to keep their Sabbath on Saturday and thus leave Catholics in full possession of Sunday.” Catholic Record, Sept. 17, 1893

37 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“They (the Protestants) deem it their duty to keep the Sunday Holy. Why? Because the Catholic Church tells them to do so. They have no other reason... The observance of Sunday thus comes to be an ecclesiastical law entirely distinct from the divine law of Sabbath observance... The author of theSunday law... is the Catholic Church.” Ecclesicastical Review, Feb. 1914.

38 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Q. Which is the Sabbath Day?

“A. Saturday is the Sabbath day.

“Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?

“A. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.” Peter Guierman, The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1957 ed.), p. 50. Copyright

1930 by B. Herder Book Co., St. Louis.

39 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Nowhere in the Bible is it stated that worship should be changed from Saturday to Sunday.” Martin J. Scott, Things Catholics Are Asked About (New York: P. J. Kennedy & Sons) p. 136.

40 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Q. Have you any other way of proving that the [Catholic] Church has power to institute festivals of precept?

“A. Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her; ... she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.” Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism (3rd American ed., rev.; New York: T. W. Strong, late Edward Dunigan & Bro., 1876), p. 174.

41 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“But the Protestant says: How can I receive the teachings of an apostate Church? How, we ask, have you managed to receive her teachings all your life, in direct opposition to your recognized teacher, the Bible, on the Sabbath question?” The Christian Sabbath (2nd ed.; Baltimore: The Catholic Mirror, 1893), p. 29, 30.

42 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“If Protestants would follow the Bible, they should worship God on the Sabbath Day. In keeping Sunday they are following a law of the Catholic Church.” Albert Smith (Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocise of Baltimore), replying for the Cardinal in a letter of February 10, 1920.)

43 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“It was the Catholic Church which, by the authority of JESUS CHRIST, has transferred this [sabbath] rest to the Sunday in remembrance of the resurrection of our Lord. Thus the observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the

[Catholic] Church.” Louis Gaston de Segur, Plain Talk About The Protestantism of To-day (Boston: Patrick Donahoe, 1868), p. 225.

44 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Protestantism, in discarding the authority of the [Catholic] Church, has no good reason for its Sunday theory, and ought, logically, to keep Saturday as the Sabbath. ...” John Gilmary Shae, “The Observance of Sunday and Civil Laws for Its Enforcement,” The American Catholic Quarterly Review, 8 (January, 1883), 152.

45 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“The (Catholic) Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her Founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant, claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday. In this matter the Seventh Day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant.” “The Question Box,” The Catholic Universe Bulletin, 69 (August 14, 1942), 4.

46 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“The Israelite respects the authority of the Old Testament only, but the [seventh-day] Adventist, who is a Christian, accepts the New Testament on the same ground as the Old, viz: an inspired record also. He finds that the Bible, his teacher, is consistent in both parts, that the Redeemer, during His mortal life never kept any other day than Saturday. The Gospels plainly evince to Him this fact; whilst, in the pages of the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles and the Apocalypse, not the vistige of an act canceling the Saturday arrangement can be found.” Editorial, The Catholic Mirror (Baltimore), September

2, 1893.

47 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“If the Bible is the only guide for the Christian, then the Seventh Day Adventist is right in observing the Saturday with the Jew.” Bertrand L. Conway, The Question Box Answers (New York: The Columbus Press, 1910), p. 254.

48 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“If you follow the Bible alone there can be no question that you are obliged to keep Saturday holy, since that is the day especially prescribed by Almighty God to be kept holy to the Lord.” F. G. Lentz, The Question Box (New York: Christian Press Association, 1900), p. 98.

49 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“The Sabbath was Saturday, not Sunday. The Church altered the observance of the Sabbath to the observance of Sunday. Protestants must be rather puzzled by the keeping of Sunday when God distinctly said, ‘Keep holy the Sabbath Day.’ The word Sunday does not come anywhere in the Bible, so, without knowing it they are obeying the authority of the Catholic Church.” Canon Cafferata,

The Catechism Explained, p. 89.

50 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

Father Conway: “If the Bible is the only guide for the Christian then the Seventh-day Adventist is right in observing the Saturday with the Jew. But Catholics learn what to believe and do from the Catholic Church, which in Apostolic times made Sunday the day of rest. ... Is it not strange that those who make the Bible their only teacher should inconsistently follow in this matter the tradition of the Church.” Question Box Answers, an official publication of the Catholic Church.

51 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

Plain Talk: “The observance of Sunday by Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the (Catholic) Church.” Plain Talk about Protestantism of Today, by Msgr. Segur (RC).

52 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

John O’Brien, Ph.D., LL.D.: “But since Saturday, not Sunday, is specified in the Bible, isn’t it curious that non-Catholics who profess to take their religion directly from the Bible, and not the Church, observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Yes of course, it is inconsistent; but this change was made about 15 centuries before Protestantism was born, and by that time the custom was universally observed. They have continued the custom, even though it rests upon the authority of the Catholic Church and not upon an explicit text in the Bible. That observance remains as a reminder of the Mother Church from which the non-Catholic sects broke away - like a boy running away from home but still carrying in his pocket a picture of his mother or a lock of her hair.” Faith of Millions, pp. 543 and 544.

53 Candid Confessions of the Catholic Church!

“Hence, the conclusion is inevitable; namely that of those who follow the Bible as their guide, the Israelites and the Seventh-day Adventists have the exclusive weight of evidence on their side, whilst the Biblical Protestant has not a word in self defense for his substitution of Sunday for Saturday.”

Catholic Mirror.

54 Candid Confessions of the Church of England!

“Many people think that Sunday is the Sabbath. But neither in the New Testament nor in the early church is there anything to suggest that we have any right to transfer the observance of the seventh day of the week to the first. The Sabbath was and is Saturday and not Sunday, and if it were binding on us then we should observe it on that day, and on no other.” Rev. Lionel Beere, All-Saints Church, Ponsonby, N.Z. in Church and People, Sept. 1, 1947.

55 Candid Confessions of the Church of England!

“Nowhere in the Bible is it laid down that worship should be done on Sunday. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. ...! That is Saturday.” P. Carrington, Archbishop of Quebec, Oct. 27, 1949.

56 Candid Confessions of the Church of England!

“Where are we told in Scripture that we are to keep the first day at all? We are commanded to keep the Seventh; but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day. The reason why we keep the first day holy instead of the seventh is for the same reason that we observe many things, not because the Bible, but because the Church, has enjoined them.” Rev. Isaac Williams, Ser. on Cathechism, p. 334.

57 Candid Confessions of the Church of England!

“The seventh day, the commandment says, is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. No kind of arithmetic, no kind of almanac, can make seven equal one, nor the seventh mean the first, nor Saturday mean Sunday. ... The fact is that we are all Sabbath breakers, every one of us.” Rev. Geo. Hodges.

58 Brethren:

“With the views of the law and the Sabbath we once held ... and which are still held by perhaps the great majority of the most earnest Christians, we confess that we could not answer Adventists. What is more, neither before or since have I heard or read what would conclusively answer an Adventist in his Scriptural contention that the Seventh day is the Sabbath (Ex. 20:10). It is not ‘one day in seven’ as some put it, but ‘the seventh day according to the commandment.’ “ Words of Truth and Grace, p. 281.

59 Salvation Army:

Copy of an Affidavit by Louis Currow, Minister in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia:

"I, Louis Currow of Ballarat, do solemnly and sincerely declare THAT, I did hear the following statement made by General William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army at an Officers’ meeting in the City Temple, Bourke Street, Melbourne. VIZ. Friends, don’t you know that we are not keeping the true Sabbath. Two other officers and myself took our stand for the Sabbath, also a lady sergeant major, that heard the statement from his lips. And I make this solemn declaration ... etc. Declared at Ballarat in the state of Victoria, 10th May, 1934, before me, (signed) F.A.Cooper, J.P."

60 ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA:

“It was Constantine the Great who first made a law for the proper observance of Sunday; who appointed it should be regularly celebrated throughout the Roman Empire.” Article Sunday.

61 ENCYCLOPEDIA AMERICANA:

“Constantine the Great made a law for the whole empire (AD 321) that Sunday should be kept as a day of rest.”

62 CHAMBERS ENCYCLOPEDIA:

“Unquestionably the first law, either ecclesiastical or civil, by which the Sabbatical observance of Sunday is known to have been ordained, is the Sabbatical edict of Constantine, AD 321.” Art. Sunday.

Fine with me. It's plainly human opinion, each is titled with the human organisation who said it. Obviously someone decided that Sunday was the day to go to church, the question is, does God require us to only worship Him on one day before He can accept it, or not ? If so, the Bible is the authority, not the Church of England.

Well, no, I didn't decide anything. The core question is, did God decide I HAD to go on a certain day, or not ? God clearly did not decide I *have* to go on Sunday, nor did I.

"27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:"(Mark 2:27)"

It astounds me how you guys can twist this to mean the opposite of what it says.

Well it was you who decided to go to church on sunday instead of the one that Yahshua appointed, blessed and made Holy by His Special Presence in it to be with His very Own Obedient ones. It's the place of His Sanctuary in time to come and tabernacle with those who are not too led away from it by misunderstanding and deception.

You are badly wresting the scripture on this point and there can be no doubt of that.

It boils down to obedience or disobediece. Runing with the world and men is not the safe path.

This is self righteous waffle IMO. It's what all SDAs retreat to when discussing the Sabbath. It is not convincing, I am sorry. I don't believe that there's anything in the NT to negate the verses telling us we are free to regard every day the same, that the Sabbath has become 'today' and that we enter in to the sabbath when we receive the Gospel, even on a Thursday, even if it's named after Thor.

The core issue Paul asked in Acts 19 was 'have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed', not 'do you keep the sabbath'. You have no answer to Paul's question that does not presume it to be a nonsense. THAT is the underlying issue. Worship in Spirit and truth is the fundamental issue of this age, not worship on the wrong day. That you make this so central that you think the anti Christ will force atheists to worship the true God, but on the wrong day, which will be worse in God's eyes that not worshipping Him at all, is really the craziest thing I've ever heard, and it's based on secret codes and word games, not the Bible.

You're straining at gnats and swallowing camels, IMO

So if that's the case, than why choose Sunday??????? Why isn't your church meeting on Thursday? or Monday? or Tuesday? How about Wednesday? No you chose Sunday because the majority worships on that day!!! No? I'm curious. Long before the days of the week were named God blessed and sactified the 7th day of the week. It had nothing to do with the Sun, Thor or any other name.

There are those here who say they joined the SDA when they realised that Sunday was named after the sun, and therefore was worship of the sun. Which is silly, I agree.

The honest answer is, we do meet on Wednesday, but we also meet on Sunday, because it's the day people are most likely to not have other engagements. It's convenient, and when the Bible says that every day is the same, and that the Sabbath is a lifetime rest in God, there's no reason to give people a reason not to come to our church over something that means nothing.

First off I don't know anyone on the forum that's going to church on God's Sabbath because it was named after the Sun. I guess I'll need to see some posts to that effect.

Second paragraph seems like a cop out answer, if I've ever heard one.

Well, if the Bible supported you, it would be a cop out, I guess. But, it doesn't, so... As I keep saying, I bet some people thought Paul's answer to the question of circumcision was a cop out. That's just how legalistic people would view someone explaining that there's no need to do that anymore.

And yes, someone on this forum definitely told me that they realised that Sunday was the wrong day to worship because of it's name, and I feel like several people have alluded to that, or perhaps it's just so comical that once someone explicitly said it, I noticed whenever anyone said anything that could be read that way.

. . .

You base your whole understanding of the sabbath on one verse and then disregard every other verse in the NT that says otherwise.

That sounds like a solid biblical understanding.

The facts are that the verses in Hebrews 4 are ambiguous and Paul does not come out and say that the 7th day is done away with or even replaced by ‘today’.

You have the typical protestant understanding that keeping the sabbath is always legalistic and as I have told you repeatedly – many sabbath keepers and Sunday keepers alike rest on their particular days with the understanding that their works play no part in their salvation.

This even goes along with your tortured logic – you basically say that any day is acceptable so if someone wants to rest on the sabbath then what’s the problem?
