But due to my respect for veges -

I hate to risk burning them.

Words escape me ... you are so thoughtful and I am sure the

veges are grateful.

'sides I have never heard of a veggie as a burnt offering.

Have you ever burned a smoothie?

I just finished a finely "cooked" smoothie. I included fresh blackberries and blueberries and frozen raspberries and strawberries. It was yummy.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Wow!! Being a good cook is a REAL good plus in MY book. Keep a cookin' Naomi

::)) no never burned a smoothie. Yours sounds very good. The one I make most often is with Silk Vanilla, bannans, blueberries and whatever fruit I have available.

Have you tried the little "cuties" .. they are sooooooooo good

I guess miz3 now understands the Bible when it says:

Too much money, power, fame, selfishness, and lack of commitment wreak havoc on marriages. We should count ourselves fortunate if we are poor little nobodies, because the wealthy are unlikely to inherit the Kingdom of God.

Marriage is like a flower garden. If we carefully water it and pull the weeds, it will be a place of beauty. If someone neglects it, allowing the weeds to crowd out the flowers and kill them, it will just be a miserable, stickery weed patch.

People are like flowers, too. The seed sprouts and bursts through the soil searching for warmth as the roots descend, seeking nutrients. Soon, the plant flowers in the bloom of youth, the time for making babies. As springtime passes, the petals fade, and then disappear. All too soon, after summer's end, the first frost arrives, and then they are all gone.

I tell men during premarital counseling - weld the door shut.

And that puts freedom of choice where?

A person can stay with another until death, but the ones in a cell are seldom happy or contented, despite protestations to the contrary.

God blesses! peace

It isn't often that LC and I find ourselves on varying sides of an issue, and I appreciate his viewpoints.

Freedom of choice is alive and well in the commitment to be faithful unto death. Choosing to resolve issues that come up is a good use of choice methinks.

If I may say so, likening marriage to a "cell" is a brand of negative thinking that almost predisposes one to marital failure. Proverbs nor Ephesians nor Jesus are that negative about marriage.

Your happiness (and mine) are not the center of the universe, nor the center of a good marriage.

I just think that so many of us have a sense of entitlement. If one marriage doesn't work then we think we can go and find happiness with someone else. That is not God's plan. He wants healing and patience to sanctify and change us in good ways. When we discard marriage, we are discarding the greatest tool God has given us for our sanctification.

Told a young girl this, when she said that the primary goal of marriage was her happiness. "If you want the world to deal on “happiness,” then you have to understand that your man will leave you any day you don’t make him happy, and will not honor you or any vow, because he doesn’t have to! You’ve already taught him that if you’re “happy,” that’s the only thing that matters.”

God asks us to be faithful, and when we are, joy results (Psalms 16:11; 30:5; Phil 1:25; Romans 14:17).

rejoice always,

G

I believe olger has some good advice. But why just tell the guy to lock the door or weld it shut. It takes two not one. Both need to be willing to work at staying together and most important God needs to be at the center of both peoples lives.
Absolutely true PK.

Most guys know how to weld - I use it as a metaphor. The girls can glue the door shut. bwink

The point is, as you said, both need to make the commitment !!

One Jewish woman considering divorce put it this way "I spent most of my life doing things that displease God, now I am about to do something that He hates!!" That revelation woke her up to commitment - God saved their marriage and they have been counseling marriages for 12-years. Neat story.

Can't really see anything in your post that I disagree with, Bro Og. Especially the comment above. God having picked out the bride of my life, the door has always been open, to stay or to walk away if we so choose. We've even had a few and far between moments of disagreement in which tears have been shed as a result of unhappiness. Neither one of us were even tempted to choose the open door, even thought we both knew it was available.

That which kept us in the bond was not an enforced rule of, "Thou shalt not commit adultery", or "flee while the time is ripe", but the love we expect God to keep us in on a day by day basis for each other.

It is my belief that the commandment is not an enforcement, but a promise, that is what will occur when one yields to God's care and oversight of their life.

Yes, for us guys marriage really does teach us how imperfect we really are... bwink

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

God asks of us only that in which power is given to accomplish what He asks. That is the reason for this injunction.

"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?"

2 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV

Our problem doesn't come from a lack of happiness. It comes from making the choices that separate us from that Power alone which promises us happiness.

I like that talk about power... :)

I recall early on in my Christian walk, (stop me if you've heard this one) when running to the checkout line at the end of a days labor, I managed to just arrive before another who wasn't kindly inclined to being edged out. As I turned to chuckle over his tardy arrival, he grabbed me by the shirt collar, lifted me up on my tippy toes and told me he was going to punch my lights out, (as opposed to my punching the clock). He being short and rather rotund (and built like a brick house), and me being a Christian just having learned that Jesus didn't approve of smacking others around, I decided to let my Elder Brother do what I didn't find myself too confident in finishing, I merely said, "You can't do anything to me that Jesus doesn't allow you to do!"

He glared at me for all of about 10 seconds while I stood on my toes, then suddenly, without a word, dropped me and turned around and walked to the end of the line, the beginning of my practical dependence on God's Word.

"He took Jesus back into the headquarters again and asked him, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave no answer. “Why don’t you talk to me?” Pilate demanded. “Don’t you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?”

Then Jesus said, “You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above." John 19:9-11 NLT

Love the simple story of profound faith.

Praise god!! And it always is just that simple for those willing to strive to enter into the straight gate on these terms.

"And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 18:2-4 NASB

" “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way."Matthew 7:13 NLT

"“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able."Luke 13:24 NKJV

Lest any think that "strive" indicates salvation by works, may I suggest this absolute necessity.

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”" Matthew 11:27-30 NKJV

Many times I've had to stop, and in retrospect have concluded that the burden I was bearing was one of my own making. In consequence I asked Him to take what I knew He would exchange for His yoke if I were willing. It hasn't made me rich or famous, but it surely has given me the peace and rest He promised.

And maybe I need to make a caveat on the rich, just not famous.

LifeHisCost, thank you again for helping us see how simply trusting in God melts away our troubles. Even if the trouble is not averted immediately, it is in God's powerful hands and safer there than left with us.
