From what we know - the Law was followed by the police department in not charging Zimmerman.

The crying media only messed things up. And stirred up the nation which is what they do best with their misinformation.

Now of course we MUST have a trial and get the facts. But the law is the law and the police can't arrest someone when the law does not permit it.

Criticism of the police is unwarrented at this point. I believe that when the facts are shown - the police will be seen to have followed the letter of the law.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

I believe people that live the life others only write about certainly have more insight and knowledge. My deaf neighbor knows far more about the day to day struggle of being deaf, abused and raising two children on her own than any teacher that is teaching you out of a book.Instead of someone writing about the impossiblitiy of making it without welfare, she can tell you how it is done.
I'm sure that your neighbor is very familiar with her struggles as a deaf person. But if I wanted an objective view of the overall struggles of deaf people then I would look for academic material. Your deaf neighbor does not speak for all deaf people.

Nobody thinks social mobility is "impossible"; of course you can often improve your economic situation. Maybe you should try getting an education on this subject (from someone who is qualified to teach these concepts, not your neighbors' anecdotes) and then making an informed criticism of modern sociology, rather than just pulling ideas like that out of thin air.

books=other people's opinions obout subjects and issues which may not be the real truth of the matter. History is just his story from his own perspective. Reading books will not make one 'street smart'. A word from the wise is usually from an elderly person who has been there and done that.

It revolved around work for a while there..

Good post Bonnie. One of my malato adopted sons married a Mexican (very cute I might add) girl and about two years ago,

Quote:
Do you see them ever complain? Nope!

Quote:
Some of my closest friends are Asian and East Indian (as one of my adopted daughters is East Indian and as cute as a bug). And none of them seem to complain either about any problem with race--yes, they complain about the evils of the world, but not about race.

Quote:
It is my opinion that most of the race problems are created within those who blame others for thier circumstances. It is and always was a blame game for them. Yes, socialology has created some of the blame game too.

Classic peace. Thank you Mr Rich.

Sociologists (socialists are people who favor a socialist form of government, while sociologists are scientists who study society) don't dismiss personal stories. They try to look beyond one person's story to see underlying social factors. Just like anthropologists can't talk to just one person and get a full view of a culture.

I admire your neighbor's personal strength, but her story doesn't "trump" sociologists and textbooks; science has to work within the known information to form theories, and even then some exceptions will always occur, but the theories attempt to explain as much of the information as they can. I'm not dismissing her story at all, I'm just saying that she is one of 7 billion people and you cannot take one data point and apply it to the entire world.

Nobody is arguing against social mobility (moving up or down on the social ladder, such as working your way from lower to middle class as your neighbor did). There are many more reasons for the perpetuation of the lower class than simply laziness, as you seem to think. Just because your middle-class neighbors who worked their way to their economic status (which is an automatically biased selection; not a bias on your part but just from living in a middle-class neighborhood) doesn't mean that those who are still lower class are simply lazy.

I put a lot of value in people's personal stories. Your neighbor is an inspiration. Your neighbor is not, I assume, a sociologist, and has probably not studied social mobility beyond her own experience, so that is why I do not accept her as proof that poor people are generally lazy and entitled.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

They know the challenges and the hardships and what it takes far more than you or any "expert" that writes a book or teaches a class.

Reminds me of the Jewish leaders asking Jesus where He got His authorty to teach and preach in the Synagogue.

Suddenly we are not happy with media coverage?

Many seemed to be very happy with the coverage until it started to turn on them. The selective much older picture of Martin was simply to show a young innocent black teen senselessly murdered by a racist.

NBC proved Zimmerman was targeting Martin because he was black until it was proved they conveniently left out a bit in their coverage. ABC did the same.

The media also left out that there had been numerous robberies in the community.

The media initially claimed Zimmerman had made excessive calls to 911,only later was it stated that was over a period of a number of years, not considered excessive at all.

Martin's father said the calls for help were not that coming from his son.

Eyewitness says Martin was on Zimmerman and Zimmerman calling for help.

Proof that Zimmerman was lying was his clothes, except the ones he was wearing had been taken by police for evidence. The media left that out.

Zimmerman wasn't bleeding in the picture, left out was that he was given first aid at the scene.

He is handcuffed and interrogated for several hours.

CNN finally reports that no it does not appear that Zimmerman made the racial slur that was first reported.

Zimmerman the racist tutors black children for free.

Zimmerman the racist went public and demanded an investigation against the beating of a homeless black man by whites. The same two officers responded to the Martin death.

What a perfect time for payback by those two officers.

The media releases addresses.

When all else fails we need to remember there is racism and it is to be assumed that the Martin death was as a result of racism. After all remember slavery and Emmett Till

Now you want the authorities to do a unbiased job. Unbiased meaning that Zimmerman is arrested, tried and convicted

It is far to late for this to end fairly and well.
