The comments that were made, at most were suggesting that white racism exists in this society and certainly there exists an institutional element to it. There is a belief amongst black and white that there was racial profiling in this case and things would have turned out differently if Martin was white and the shooter was black. No one should be surprised or angered at that suggestion. And of course black people can be racist. Let's answer that question before it is asked. More and more keeps coming out so have noticed the bottom feeders have quit making so much noise politically and publically. As for believing you think most whites are racist,let me clarify. When I first heard this I only heard a young teen had been killed by someone in a neighborhood watch.Nothing more,but the first thought I had was "Please don't let the victim be black" Not because that would make him more special but because of where it would lead.Almost without question in something like this it is only a short time before it "has to be a racial hate crime" The Mpls woman with a knife to her throat by a violent husband had somehow managed to call 911.When it was obvious he was escalating and intended to kill her the Swat team shot him.Both man and woman were black.The husband had a long violent abusive history.When my husband heard it on the news,he said here we go with another lawsuit,white police deliberately killing an innocent black man.He was dead on. We have had some serious issues at the Mall of America.Gangs like to prowl the mall.The securityguards pretty much leave the black gangs alone unless something escalates,while they try to keep the white gangs tamped down.Why?Because they do not want to get sued as it is a given it will turn into a racial harrassment charge.So of course they are becoming bolder.When something tragic happens and it will it will again be racial profiling.It isn't that the young black teens are any worse by nature,they are being told in many ways they can't be touched because of "white racism" Frankly for most reports of this nature I really tune it out as it seems I already know how it will go. I don't hear about racial crimes that often but it could be where I live or the media I consume. The challenge for the America is that it's relationship with black people has for the majority of its existence has revolved around race. America has always wanted black folks to be quiet about this issue. Now black folks have "access" and the voices will only grow louder until they "feel" there is true equality. Note that I said feel. Perception is often has a greater impact than reality. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. It is some and they will never feel there is true equality. I have black neighbors along with several other minority groups. We also have the same in the "other side of the tracks" area.The minorities that live in our very modest middle class don't want to live by or associate "with those people" They have moved out of the cities to get away. They do not raise their children to dwell on past injustice that can't be changed.They don't approach me as "you owe me" but simply as my equal. The cocky belligerant attitude comes from those that want it kept alive and keep feeding on it. I am sure from time to time there are racial issues in our schools but for the most part you never hear of it.After school lets out it is more common than not to see a group of teens walking home with 2 or more minority races represented.Often with their arms around one another. Our neighbors,white or other do not want their teens hanging out with "those others" Most people just don't want to keep fighting the racial wars and they don't see racism at every opportunity Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Lower class minorities are "those people"? Because your neighbors have had good opportunities--culturally, economically, socially, academically--and they have fairly comfortable lives and don't have to worry about discrimination, they have the right to look down on those who have not been so fortunate? They may look at you as an equal, but "those people" is never a term of equality. It is a dividing phrase. And they have taught their children that racism isn't an issue? Maybe not in your nice little community, but it is a real problem, and the scorn of the higher classes on "those people" is part of what perpetuates it among "those people". I have as little respect for your neighbors as I do for middle-class women who take advantage of their rights to vote and work and live independently yet condemn the feminist movement. They do not care about history, they like things the way they are now and don't care how they got there or how to make things better. Your neighbors came from the civil rights movement and now are citizens of equal standing and yet they don't think that some people deserve that equal standing just because of where they were born. For goodness sake, whether he's guilty or not, there obviously needs to be a thorough investigation that doesn't consist of media coverage. It doesn't take a trial to see what is written in plain English. And I have no tolerance for racism. When I see it - I call it for what it is.
