Moderators Bravus Posted November 29, 2012 Moderators Posted November 29, 2012 As I've said elsewhere, the new statement reeks of being written or coached by a PR flack as damage control. I mean, I think it's good that young Angus has realised he might have been a bit rude to the people who have made him very wealthy... Mind you, he's right about the show - I've never watched it, not so much because it's 'filth' but because of the terrible attitudes to women it portrays. 'The Big Bang Theory', which is written and produced by the same people is, as those who know me can imagine, very much home to me, but even that does a pretty terrible job with its female characters. I do wish the young fella all the best. Quote Truth is important
Administrators Gail Posted November 29, 2012 Administrators Posted November 29, 2012 I was asked today what I thought of the unfolding story. To me, it would be classy to treat his employers with respect while standing true to his principles. I would think he is under contract- he should honour that until it runs out. That seems to me to be a better way than what Charlie chose... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

SivartM Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 From reading non-Adventist coverage on Jones, several things are evident: 1. Adventists either don't know or don't care that Jones has been taken in not by mainstream Adventism but a particular (what I would call "fanatical") preacher who thinks that the Illuminati are out to get us. 2. Most people outside Adventism now think that not only Jones, but Adventists in general, are crazy and cultish. JoeMo Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Are you comfortable naming the particular ministry he got sucked into? I'm curious cuz I spent over 5 years locked into and brainwashed by the so-called "independent ministry" subculture. I'm a self-confessed recovering legalist (as if you couldn't tell by my posts!) If you'd rather not name them, that's cool. Or you could PM me. Quote

Administrators Gail Posted November 29, 2012 Administrators Posted November 29, 2012 The last article that I read (CNN) was not bad in its view of Adventists... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

born_again1 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I really, really hope that Angus does A LOT of study and research. He is very young, impressionable and vulnerable. He is finding his way. I don't think he has to worry about his financial situation. Probably not an issue. He needs biblically sound mentors...not conspiracy theories. Being grounded in the Word...I pray that is what happens for this young man. Quote

bonnie Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Official Statement Regarding Angus T. Jones and the Seventh-day Adventist Church Angus T. Jones, an actor of the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, became a member of a local Seventh-day Adventist congregation in the San Fernando Valley area in June of 2012. On October 8, Jones was interviewed on a show called Turning Point, produced by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, in which he discussed his faith journey. The interview will air on Hope Channel (DirecTV channel 368) this Friday, November 30, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Currently, you can view an online version at The Adventist Channel. “We are happy that Angus has joined the Seventh-day Adventist family and has found a place in which he feels comfortable to worship and grow his faith,” said George Johnson, communication director for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America. “Recently, Angus made some statements concerning his spiritual journey and expressed his views concerning the television program Two and a Half Men. These comments are of a personal nature, reflecting his views after having undergone changes during his spiritual journey. We welcome him with open arms to the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church family and are excited about his commitment to God through his recent baptism at his church.” Many inquiries have come to the Church regarding the Forerunner Chronicles interview. We are unable to offer information because Forerunner Chronicles is not a ministry operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its host is not a pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Kountzer Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I watch the Forerunner Chronicles from time to time, along with many of the other television programs and channels on the glorystar satellite system. Much of the topics discussed on Chronicles I've heard before from others. Some of it I agree with, some I'm neutral with, and some I can't grasp. As for two and a half men, I think I've watched one or two programs of that show, if that many. Until this recent media uproar, I thought the young guy on there was still nine or ten years old. I didn't know that he is 19 now, nor did I know his name. When I found out that these two shows are linked together by an interview conducted by Chronicles speaker Christopher Hudson with 2.5 actor Angus Jones, the young guy, Wow! Many of the topics on chronicles are more noble than the jibberish discussed here, IMO. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass
BobRyan Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 While A.T Jones is somewhat of a public figure - his case does serve to highlight the special scenario where a young adult takes a stand for Christ - joins the Adventist church and then is confronted by objections from family, friends and co-workers. We need to pray for him - and for all young adults in his situation. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Members phkrause Posted November 30, 2012 Members Posted November 30, 2012 I believe if I'm not mistaken there is another young actor, Jonathan Jackson, who played on one of the Soap Opera's, that is a SDA, but seems to be going the other way. Don't quote me on the fact that he is an SDA, but have been lead to believe this! I don't know that SivartM has said anything at all about the church that A.T Jones is attending. I think he is only talking about the lay person that heads up the ForerunnerChronicles. Equivocating between giving an interview to that organization - vs - placing it in charge of the church that A.T. Jones is attending. The only hint we have of impact on A.T. Jone's life in regard to the Forerunner is in the interview video where Jones is almost all the talking and he talks exclusively about what he has been learning at his church. The only mention of something learned from the Forerunner ministry had to do with music. Having said that - the interview closes with the James 4 message not to be friends with the world. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." nuff sed Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 If Angus Jones has become a Seventh-day Adventist I hope that the 'denomination' will leave him alone and not parade him all over the US to all the camp meetings 'to tell his story'... Adventists have been prone to do this in the past. I do not know of a single 'celebrity' they did this to who is still a member of the Adventist Church. Nuff Sed Quote

I recall a movie actress who had been baptized and was introduced at General Conference Session [i think it was in 1946]. She was wearing a beautiful fur coat. I recall seeing her and thinking they were parading her around like some prize steer at the county fair [the meetings were held in the Cow Palace, as I recall]. She was never heard from again, after that weekend. It was too much; overdone; trying to use her to advertise Adventism. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Neil D Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 When I first heard of A T Jones, his joining the SDA church and his comments on his show being "filth" and such, I feared for him... a little bit...he had a support group, and people would rally around him when the world reacted against him...I also feared his being mentored into traditional Adventism, and the law...And it looked like Forerunner ministrys was mentoring him...and causing him to be non-christlike...His words were not the spirit of his Father, a Father of love, who would be responsible for the people of his business/company. I feared for the backlash that would come upon the SDA church for creating another "crazy fanatic" from a world that is tired of the erratic self destructive behavior of individuals. And then, someone coached A T Jones into an apology...and it was thoughtful...And I thought that there is more to this kid than meets the eye....Someone is finally mentoring AT Jones and doing it well... There is hope here....I am pleased... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
