Kuma Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 There has been an on going discussion now for a few days about when was Jesus born... Quote
Q.E.D. Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 According to Wikipedia: Two independent approaches have been used to estimate the year of the birth of Jesus, one involving analysis of the Nativity accounts in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew along with other historical data, and the other working backwards from the estimation of the start of the ministry of Jesus, as also discussed in the next section.[5][28] In its Nativity account, the Gospel of Matthew associates the birth of Jesus with the reign of Herod the Great, who is generally believed to have died around 4 BC/BCE.[28][74] Matthew 2:1 states that: "Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king" and Luke 1:5 mentions the reign of Herod shortly before the birth of Jesus.[28] Luke's gospel also describes the birth as taking place during the first census, which is generally believed to have occurred in 6 AD/CE.[75] Most scholars generally assume a date of birth between 6 and 4 BC/BCE.[76] Other scholars assume that Jesus was born sometime between 7 and 2 BC/BCE.[77] The year of Jesus' birth has also been estimated in a manner that is independent of the Nativity accounts, by using information in the Gospel of John to work backwards from the statement in Luke 3:23 that Jesus was "about 30 years of age" at the start of his ministry.[3][5] As discussed in the section below, by combining information from John 2:13 and John 2:20 with the writings of Flavius Josephus, it has been estimated that around 27–29 AD/CE, Jesus was "about thirty years of age".[78][79] Some scholars thus estimate the year 28 AD/CE to be roughly the 32nd birthday of Jesus and the birth year of Jesus to be around 6–4 BC/BCE.[3][5][80] Although Christian feasts related to the Nativity have had specific dates (e.g. December 25 for Christmas) there is no historical evidence for the exact day or month of the birth of Jesus.[81][82][83] Q.E.D. Gibs Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 He was born on or about the first day of feast of tabernacles. There is plenty of reads on it of how that is determined, just do a search "Jesus born first day of feast of tabernacles" and some you will find lay it out from scripture very well. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 It does matter because Dec 25 is a lie. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
Woody Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 It does matter because Dec 25 is a lie. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. I am not aware of any lie relating to Dec. 25th. Have you heard of symbolism? Scriptures are FULL of it. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Gibs Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Yes Woody, I've heard of symbolisms and Dec. 25 is an outright lie of being the birthdate of our Redeemer. But the first day of feast of tabernacles does have a lot of merit of being the right time,it does jibe up with different scripture of that time. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Woody Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Quote: Yes Woody, I've heard of symbolisms and Dec. 25 is an outright lie of being the birthdate of our Redeemer I've never heard of anyone who said Dec. 25th was the birth of Jesus. I fear you have fabricated the lie. IOWs - the lie comes from you and not anyone else. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Gibs Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Tell me then Woody what do you celebrate on Christmas, why is the name Christmas? 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Woody Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I thought you just told me that you knew what symbolism is. Now I am having my doubts. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Again Gibs - I've never heard of any Christian and certainly no SDA Christian - who has stated that Dec.25th is the birthday of Christ. Please back up your accusations of lies. JoeMo Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I'm with Robert on this - it doesn't matter. So what if it's wrong? I don't always celebrate my birthday on the anniversary of my birth. Jesus' resurrection wasn't on Easter Sunday, either, it was 3 days after Passover (or whatever you guys who are arguing this point think it was); and the Sabbath isn't Sunday. Who cares? The main point is that we are recognizing the coming of our Savior; and in doing so, we will think about Him coming again! I think I remember reading in the SoP that even EGW recommends that we celebrate Christmas (or have a Christmas tree, or something like that)! Don't hold me to that - it's been a while since I've seen/heard that quote. Quote
Gibs Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Then JoeMo does it matter then if we keep Sunday instead of Sabbath? Yes it does matter. No most can not figure it out to the exact day but Jesus was born within a day of the first day of the feast of tabenacles. Dec. 25 is a pagan holiday, so I regard it in no way. Sunday is the day Satan set up for man to observe instead of Yahweh's Holy Day and so I regard it not of any sacredness and observe it not. Let us please our True God and True Saviour and not men! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. JoeMo Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Gibs, Don't try to start off-topic stuff. This thread is about Dec. 25 - not Sabbath. Sabbath does matter to me a great deal or I wouldn't be an SDA. The fact that it is a non-issue for non-SDA's is an issue between them and God - not them and me. If you want to ignore Dec. 25, go for it! As for me and my family, we will sing "Silent Night" and "What Child is This" at church; and sing "Jingle Bells" and "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" at home. Quote

Again Gibs. You have accused us of lies. I will ask again for you to provide a statement as proof that the lie exists. No - you've fabricated a lie. It simply does not exist. You are unable to back up your accusations and my questions. But I repeatedly answer yours and will answer this one again. Why do I celebrate? Symbolism Gibs Symbolism. You seem to be good at throwing out questions. But you lack in the ability to read the written word. lol Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Gibs you bring up the Sabbath which is a ridiculous comparison. The Sabbath is a commanded day to observe. There is NO command to observe Christmas. Christmas is man made. Birthdays are man made. There's no command to observe your birthday. So why do you? It's my routine to observe the morning with a Smoothie. It's a man made ritual that I go through in the mornings. Perhaps your ritual is to have a cup of coffee. I don't know. But the observance of the morning by doing whatever you do - is man made and there is nothing wrong with it. Of course - unless you are having caffeine lol Okay - I've gone into enough silliness but I hope you get the point. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Woody Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 This is exactly the point. Them pagans have invaded and have taken over our lives. You know - if a pagan had a worship time on Sabbath - some would stop observing Sabbath. What you say is SO true. These peoples have allowed the pagans to control their lives. Gibs Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Answer the question please, What do you celebrate on Dec 25.? Personally it is no special time to celebrate anything unless it falls on the Sabbath, it's a Tues. this year. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. I would ask you the same favor Gibs. Answer the question. Please provide proof of your accusations of lies. I will answer your question one more time. It is celebrated on Dec. 25th for no special reason. Pick a date. The date simply does not matter. Again - it is symbolism. The symbolism can be accomplished on ANY day. Would you like to start a movement to move the date we celebrate Christmas. Good Grief. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won.
