LifeHiscost Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 _________of the Creator? I just ran into this quote on a forum I'm not allowed to post on and thought it was important enough to comment about. Quote: I believe there are a lot of paths leading up the same mountain. I'm wondering what you might think of what this says. "For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all."Ephesians 4:4-6 NLT God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Moderators Gerr Posted February 9, 2013 Moderators Posted February 9, 2013 There may be many paths that lead to Christ, but there is only one way to God. ESV | ‎Jn 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Quote
M. T. Cross Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I think that the Bible might have confused deity and the Divine. Of course I think the quote you quoted is quite right...... but then its from me Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted February 9, 2013 Moderators Posted February 9, 2013 Unsurprising, though, that a particular path claims to be the only path. The question is, of course, have you looked for similar statementss in some other paths? Pretty sure you'd find them... and what then? You've selected one path: good for you. Recognising that there is a choice, though, sets your foot on a different path. Making a choice is harder, but ultimately, in my view, more powerful and fulfilling. And choosing a path that does *not* claim to be the only path recognises the reality of the world we live in rather than ruling it out of bounds based on ... the internal claims of one path among many. Moderators Bravus Posted February 9, 2013 Moderators Posted February 9, 2013 I should have added that William Perry's scheme is useful: he observed that people tend to move from 'absolutism', through 'relativism' to 'commitment within relativism'. In the terms of this discussion, from 'there is only one path', through 'there are many paths and they are equally valid' to 'there are many paths, and from among them all I choose this one'. I would argue that few here are in the middle stage, but many are in the beginning stage and many are in the end stage. The beginning stage is, by definition, going to consider the end stage wrong. The end stage is likely to, at most, consider the beginning stage immature - but we all start out immature and there's no shame in that. (Continuing to rigidly embrace our immaturity all our lives, less so perhaps...) Quote Truth is important
joeb Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Each person's point of view on this subject will, of course, be created by what they consider to the authoritive source on the subject. All paradigms are not equally valid, therefore not all paths are valid. My paradigm, created by what I believe to be the authoritative source of the universe--that's right, "the" not a--says there is only one narrow path leading to one point. All other paths are dead ends leading to destruction. Quote Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.Alexis de Tocqueville

I have no authoritative source. I simply have my observations based on study and research. Even the literature provided by my religion IMO is simply a guideline. My thoughts and views are subject to change and growth. Quote
LifeHiscost Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Quote: I have no authoritative source. Perhaps not. I would suggest you have chosen yourself as the most accurate and astute observer. But I may have my posters mixed up. It is true that unless one accepts the Creator when he comes in contact with Him, none of the promises the Creator offers follow the dissenter without an eventual change of heart by the dissenter. "“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them. Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." John 10:1-10 NKJV And the book of last events reveals what identifies those who answer the Master's call. "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."Revelation 14:12-13 KJV God blesses! Administrators debbym Posted February 10, 2013 Administrators Posted February 10, 2013 i believe each person has a unique life and mind and experiences, and God leads and draws each of us in our individual path to know him. i believe God is doing everything he can to close the gap between himself and each living person. i believe there is an enemy to be dealt with in our growth and our coming to know and understand and love God and love others. And that enemy is our natural unregenerate self. so we all have a unique but common enemy, and we each have a highly individual struggle in our personal path. In the word of God are the thoughts of God, His character and his will for us is expressed there. The scriptures are not perfect, the bible is not our God but it is God's divine medium of communication to us. Casual brushing with scripture does not always bring the contact and connection and communication that we need. Nature is God's second book, we can also connect with God in Nature, The Spirit of God can speak to us through nature and through the scripture. When our needs are met by God we will grow. Like any living thing, when the needs are met they grow into their potential. Quote deb Love awakens love. Let God be true and every man a liar.

To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. M. T. Cross Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Yes, there are a lot of different paths going up the same mountain - but that is a far cry from saying many man-made paths lead to God. We use the expression "many paths lead to the same God" as a relativistic way of excusing ourselves signally declaring ourselves for God, and also excusing ourselves from finding for ourselves what God wants each of us to do. I just don't think that the trip up the mountain leads to the same god. I don't think it leads to any god at all. Quote

A number of our atheist friends read Daniel 2 and 7 and 8, and then came to the obvious conclusion that the Bible is inspired by God. Pretty simple really. But in those cases - it is genuine atheists on the outside - coming into Christianity. There are also the cases of Christians leaving Christian groups like the Seventh-day Adventist church and choosing the path of atheism. in that case - it is simple free will at work. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Igakusei Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Until you calculate the odds against Daniel predicting 2300 years of world history in advance. http://www.livius.org/da-dd/daniel/11_comm.html http://ncbible.org/resources/Danielcomm11.html http://www.christnotes.org/commentary.php?com=wes&b=27&c=11 Regarding Daniel accurately predicting 2300 years of history, a fun exercise is to compare the timelines of different groups of people who accept Daniel as a book of prophecy. If even they can't agree on the dates and what the prophecies mean, then what in the world makes you think that qualifies as a convincing prophecy? If anything, Biblical prophecies are best used to discredit the people making them. A great example of people creating a history to fit a prophecy is 538 A.D. A group of people who had already decided the pope is the Antichrist decided that 1798 was a good fit for the Beast's deadly wound, which meant that something must have happened 1260 years before in 538. But if you were actually looking through Catholic history and trying to pin a single date onto the rise of Christian Rome as a power (or alternatively, on a date that Christian Rome uprooted three previous powers), 538 would be very far down the list of potential candidates. But now if you go to an SDA Bible study, things like this will be presented as evidence that the Bible is trustworthy as a historical and moral source of authority. But if the only reasonable way to arrive at a date like 538 is to assume that the prophecy is true, then we've assumed the validity of a specific interpretation of the Bible in order to support the validity of that interpretation of the Bible. And around we go. http://wiki.ironchariots.org/index.php?title=Prophecy Quote I believe in life before death
