Of course, the meaning of life is a multi-fasceted concept, but without death it would be difficult to conceptualize life, since much of our understanding revolves around polar opposites. How can one know light without darkness? Darkness is the "background" that sets light forward. Likewise, with life and death - death is a background that shapes life. Take away death, and you left with homogenous existence void of any contrasting opposites. I'm sure that one can find meaning in eternal existence, but it would be fairly difficult mental exercise. Imagine that you were alive for trillions of trillions of trillions years... what is the meaning behind your existence Go :) Quote
M. T. Cross Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Here is where I am coming from to a degree. I don't rule out that there may be an existence after this one. Ya'll could be right, the Buddhists could be right, the Wiccans could be right, Gwyddons may be right - or fccool could be right. I think the scariest one to me is the Christian version. As I mentioned earlier, according to a certain number of Christians, a lot of how I view life and things I hold valuable to me are sins. So I would have to just not be me anymore. That kinda freaks me out. But in the end none of us KNOW. We have beliefs, theories and philosophies. One thing that Fccool has totally right imo is that the here and now is the one thing we can be sure of. We should make the most of it, make it as good as we can for those around us, help people, be kind, be loving and love the life we have. Quote

If there is no validity to the Christian belief of the hereafter, then as Paul says - ESV | ‎1 Co 15:32 If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” Quote
