Colorado High School Shooting

Earlier today there was a shooting at Arapahoe High School in the Metro Denver area.

Three students are being treated a local hospitals, one of whom is serious and one at a SDA hospital.

The body of the alleged gunman has been recovered.

I understand this incident began at 12:30 Mountain Standard Time.

The person at Littleton Adventist Hospital (LAH) is in critical condition and is being treated for a gunshot wound.

NOTE: Officially LAH has not said that the person is a student.

One student has been discharged and two remain hospitalized.

I think it's because every new movie in the theaters seems to be built on shootings [i see their ads on TV]. This is the type of thing people are filling their minds with these days.

This I'm not in agreement with. As Christians we need to look at the verse in the Bible that says: In conclusion, brothers, focus your thoughts on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy. Philippians 4:8.

Parents need to have far more interest and awareness with what their kids are doing in their spare time

and it will not be to our liking.We already have laws against shooting people,doesn't seem to put a stop to it.

There shouldn't be so many violent movies,you and yours do not need to watch them. Who gets to choose what can be produced?

It is sad news.

It is sad for the family of the now deceased, alleged shooter who took his own life.

It is sad for the some 2,000 students who went through all of this Some were in gym classes. The national news is showing a young male walking down the snow covered street in socks, swimming suit, and someone who had thrown a blanket around him.

It is sad for the three students who were taken to the hospital for treatment.

It is a blessing that one student has been released from the hospital and sent home.

It is a blessing that one student with gunshot wounds had only minor injuries and will recover.

It is sad that one student with gunshot wounds is critical.

All in all, the wounds will continue for a while.

It is very sad for many and a blessing that it was not worse.

You Sir, are grossly incorrect. When the radio started blabbing about it on the way home from Centerville, I turned it off.

Why? Because the news media in America is committing a grave offense to the human conscience. Apostle Paul said that we should be wise about righteousness and ignorant of what is evil. The news media has a goal to make you wise about iniquity. My statement stands, accurate and true. I have no desire to know about this.

I am not focusing on the dumb story a'tall, but rather lamenting the celebration bad news in the American media. There will be much to answer for someday.

Your posts in this thread addressing Olger seem to belie your claims of not passing judgment on others. I think you might want to stick to the topic and not address others' inner thoughts. It does not become you to do so.

As for the shootings, I think movies may be a part, but I think one of the bigger influences is computer games. Kids learn to shoot for points and for fun, which makes trying it "for real" the next big thrill.

Green: I pass no judgement on him. I am simply stating an obvious fact: His actions are 180 degrees opposed to his words.

If you said to me: "I am now wearing a solid green shirt." I would not be passing judgement on you if I responded: "No, you are wearing a solid red shirt."

I pass no judgement on him. I am not calling him a liar. I am not saying that he is committing sin. I am simply saying that his words and actions are inconsistent.

He does counseling. I believe that he is experienced. So, I have to assume that in his counseling practice he often points out to people that their words and actions are inconsistent. That is not judgemental on his part. It is part of what he likely does.

Frankly it is good for people to be told that their actions and words are inconsistent.

I have never said you were focusing on the story. My focus is on the fact that you are reading everything that is posted here. You can't give it up. You read and respond to me.

Your actions in coming here and reading and responding are inconsistent with your words.

You man not concern yourself with the people involved. In calling it a dumb story you indicate a lack of compassion for the involved people. As such, you probably do not want to learn of the clinical progress of the 15 year-old girl with a major head wound. After all, it is just, in your mind, a dumb story.

You probably do not want to know of the woman who was a single-parent to the alleged shooter. After all, why have any compassion for her. This is just a dumb story.

Great post Gregory. Even though there's not many occasions for the media to report good news, have never seen them celebrate reporting bad news. They have a job to do, and maybe they spin the news, but celebrate?

As Jesus pointed out, the demons will be gathered around the dead and dying. The "media," therefore, can be well expected to flock together around some tragedy like this, like a bunch of vultures descending on the carcase.

Green: Certainly if you are reading the supermarket tabloids, your comments are true.

The Colorado school shooting is a very sad story. There is a lot of grief in the Denver Metro area. The media is reporting prayers and the efforts of the students to raise funds for a students clinical care.

Olger, as a counselor, speaking specificly to this school shooting dismisses it all as a dumb story and infers that the media is celebrating the bad news.

Pure garbage.

That is nonsense. Does he not know anything about public grief? Does he not know how one deals with grief and as this is public grief that dealing with it has to be public.

I had a memorial service the other day for a patient who had died--a patient who had been injured in service for his country.

As part of the memorial service I gave all an opportunity to share their memories and feelings. Half of the comments were founded in a very conservative religious context and belief in a future life. Half were not of that nature. In either case, the sharing was part of the healing process.

Olger seems to me to dismiss all of that as dumb.

High School students are praying and raising funds--not dumb to report it.

Olger, here is the bottom line: When you make a public comment in a forum like this, do not expect people not to comment on it. Expect responses.

When you make comments like the above in which you mention your dog, you lose credibility for your entire statement. Bringing your dog into the discussion presents yourself as expanding on the actual facts. In presenting yourself as expanding beyond reality, your entire statement loses credibility.
