mel20 Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Sooo resistant... 'ough. I know you don't like me... Understandable, though! Just wondering, Why do we condemn our fellow Adventists who rebuke the world and our own church? Hhmm..Judgmental? Fanatics? Go ahead and keep silent as much as it's comfortable to your lukewarmness. Yet, don't wait until it's too late to speak up and when God would finally declares: "you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. [Ezekiel 33:7] **Judgmental?**Not cool?**Fanatics?**
Johann Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Jesus Christ showed us the difference between those who will be saved and those who will be lost in the parable of the pharisee and the tax collector. The pharisee sees all the faults with other church members and praises the Lord for not having those faults in his own life. He appears grateful for the good qualities and "Christian" deeds he has accomplished. The tax collector only sees himself as a sinner with nothing to boast of. So he begs for mercy, and therefore Jesus counts his as righteous. Thus I see myself as too great a sinner for membership in any society that promises sanctification for attending their particular meetings. In my status I need the redemptive grace of Jesus Christ who died for me on Calvary.
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 30, 2014 Moderators Posted January 30, 2014 Mel20 asks why we . . . That answer is simple: We point out that it is judgmental because it is. It is judgmental to attribute motive to one's action. God has not given you or I the responsibility to judge another's motives. Gregory
mel20 Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Yeah but God never give you the responsibility/authority to make an immediate conclusion that every warnings and rebukes are automatically "judgmental". Too much judging people as 'judgmental' with an attitude to be evasive to talk about the "coward" Adventists...yet hiding in the name of "grace", "God's love and mercy"....certainly a disastrous Liberal New Theology mentality. No warning and rebuke necessary. Just take it easy...because everything is acceptable. (no Biblical standards)

Of course. I only say it to you when your statements demonstrate the truth of what I say. When you make generalized statement related to another's motives, that is clearly judgmental. Gregory
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 30, 2014 Administrators Posted January 30, 2014 Here is a significant part of the problem as I see it. We assume the exercise of judgment in a human sense of pointing out error and issuing condemnation is doing God's justice. We assume those who escape/avoid that kind of judgment are the saved that are those in God's favor. We mistakenly think we are doing justice by helping God route out evil doers by exposing them, as if that makes things better. But to do justice and loving mercy is to show justice to the victims of sin by fixing the damage, setting things right, restoring them to wholeness. And mercy is forgiveness to the wrongdoer and redeeming them as well. And walking humbly with our God is recognizing that we all are both victims and wrongdoers needing both justice and mercy from God. In the end, The Judgment of God is all about making all things new again, recreating a perfect world, restoring everything and everyone to what they were/should have been had sin never entered the picture. "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
BobRyan Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Yeah but God never give you the responsibility/authority to make an immediate conclusion that every warnings and rebukes are automatically "judgmental". Matt 7 "you will know them by their fruits". Phil 3 tells us to observe those who do not follow the Pattern that Paul provides. Gal 1:6-11 "though we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a different Gospel - let them be accursed". 2Thess 2:1-4 talks about the efforts of Paul to help church members not be deceived by fakes. in Christ, Bob John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." BobRyan Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Liberals? Conservatives? Anti-category? Traditional? Separatists? Theistic-Evolutionists? Other groups? You can make a never-ending-list to categorize each and everyone of Adventists people based on their most suitable characteristic. But according the Bible, there are finally only two groups of people, including in the Adventist world: Wheat vs Tares. No third party. I believe this is happening within our Church now. Whenever you learn the history of GYC, hopefully you won't forget to learn the history of the other group called “The One Project”. Since the very first infrastructure was settled, GYC committed NOT to return to traditional nor conservative, but come back to the “Primitive Godliness”. Keep in mind, please, that too much cynical & ridicule statements and make fun of this movement since their very first time back in 2002 by stating that GYC won't stay nor exist too long since they never have any show nor emotional in their gathering. Fortunately (unfortunately to them), the spirit of GYC keep moving, growing and expanding not only in N. America but also worldwide. For the first few years there - GYC was the best kept secret in Adventism. They have the best speakers, the best seminars - a fantastic group of young adults -- amazing! Now the word is out of course - and the much expected "flack" has arrived to try and distract. But overall most people know that it is a wonderful event. in Christ, Bob John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
BobRyan Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Much like the recommendations in the iFollow materials, the One Project frequentlypromotes ideas more radical than what they themselves explicitly say. I have only recently "heard about" the existence of the "One" project and basically do not know what they are doing. The one bad mark they are getting is that they are being positioned as a counterfeit to GYC, or in opposition to GYC. Not sure if this is being done by their promoters or by those who simply do not like them but it puts a tarnish on the project right from the start. If it turns out that the "ONE" project is only being promoted by GYC-nay-sayers that would be telling. in Christ, Bob John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 30, 2014 Administrators Posted January 30, 2014 ... being positioned as a counterfeit to GYC, or in opposition to GYC...by those who simply do not like them [One Project]... That seems exactly what is happening in the OP. Not sure how widespread that notion is, but I suspect not much. From what I have been told by those more knowledgeable about the One Project than either you or me, it was not formed nor is it promoted as some sort of alternative to GYC. That seems to be only in the imagination of some that feel threatened by the One Project. Not sure if that is just from GYC people or not. But it does not seem to be an idea originating from anyone associated with the One Project. There is room for both. "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. Johann Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Thus far I have not seen any attacks from The 1 Project people on GYC. We see here how the GYC adherents attack The 1 Project. Is that the Christian way?
immanuel Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Hi mel20, I am sorry that I gave the impression that we should just keep silent. That is not something that I advocate. When we see things we perceive as wrong in the church we need to follow counsel and " Make your complaint, plainly and openly, in the right spirit, to the proper ones." (9T 249) Many people make the complaint plainly and openly, but possibly not in the right spirit and often not to the proper ones. What am I to do about the1project? It is not something that is promoted or even known about in my local church, neither does my local conference support or promote it. I have communicated with NAD leadership some of my concerns, but after that what else do you think needs to be done? In my estimation there are much more important things to be done in my own area than addressing an issue that is not an issue where I live. I could invest my time and energy into proclaiming a warning about this (which would just draw attention to it) or I could invest my time in winning people to Jesus and His Word. If people are grounded in the Living Word then they will not get led astray. If the subject of the1project were to come up in my local church then I would voice my concerns (by God's grace in the right spirit and to the proper ones) until then I have more important things to tend to, such as the Great Commission. This is not to say that you shouldn't say anything. If you feel that is your burden then go ahead. But I would encourage you and anyone who feels so burdened to examine whether or not this is a burden from the Lord. The Pharisees (conservatives) and Sadducees (liberals) were both unprepared for the First Coming because they were too busy arguing with each other. The only time that they came together was to crucify Jesus. Lord help us not to repeat the same mistake as we are very near the Second Coming!

Is that the Christian way? Here is the One Project page -- I assume it is correct. https://the1project.org/gathering.html https://the1project.org/ I found no subjects, speakers, topics, focus, emphasis, mission -- I assume that people go there based on which friends they find that are going?? I hear a rumor that at one event the speakers were non-SDA in many cases and were known for promoting SF - but I have no way of verifying, proving, disproving that since the One Project site does not appear to provide event information. So I guess the jury is still out. in Christ, Bob John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.

Any large gathering will have people who are quick to speak when perhaps they shouldn't. I have been to almost every GYC and have never heard The 1 Project mentioned from the front in the main meetings or in any seminar that I have attended. I haven't been to every seminar, but would doubt that The 1 Project would be a subject of a seminar. Similarly I doubt that GYC has been mentioned at The 1 Project. There have been write-ups in Spectrum, which is not an official partner of The 1 Project, but share contributors (some writers for Spectrum are also presenters at The 1 Project meetings) This is what Spectrum has had to say about GYC: I think it is a "Given" that Spectrum would oppose our SDA denomination President and GYC and it is a "given" that GYC would try to have President Ted Wilson speak at every session or at least do a Q&A session. But you are saying that Spectrum writers are speakers at the One Project. How can that be verified? what speakers? are these the same Spectrum writers running down GYC and President Wilson? in Christ, Bob John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted July 24, 2014 Moderators Posted July 24, 2014 The leadership of THE ONE PROJECT is deeply composed of SDAs. Conference administrators sit on its Board. It's leaders are all required to be SDAs in good standing. There are clearly enough SDA administrators on involved that if they thought THE ONE PROJECT was going off on the deep end, they could put a stop to it. Gregory
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted July 24, 2014 Moderators Posted July 24, 2014 The 2014 book published by THE ONE PROJECT, was printed by a denominational publishing house. I am not impressed by those who criticize it, but who have never read that book which clearly states the focus of THE ONE PRIJECT. If you want to criticize, fine. But, read the book and give some evidence that you have personally interacted with the issues and have come to an informed opinion. NOTE: I have copied several quotations from that book in CA. Have any of those who have criticized it read my quotations and informed the rest of us as to why you disagree with what I have posted, if you do disagree? Gregory
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted July 24, 2014 Moderators Posted July 24, 2014 The following is just one of the posts that I have made here in CA which I took from the book: From: Nathan Brown, Alex Bryan & Japhet DeOliveira: FOR THE ONE: VOICES FROM THE ONE PROJECT. As stated by: Mark Witas, "Jesus. Doctrine. Jesus and our beliefs." Quote: Anytime a group of people use doctrine to define themselves rather than establishing doctrine to explain and clarify God, they will yield to the real temptation of considering themselves separate from and better than the rest of the world. And this will ultimately do damage to God's character, no matter what truth they may possess. {page 62} * * * * * * The challenge for the Seventh-day adventist. Church in the 21st century is to avoid using doctrine to define and separate ourselves. Instead, we need to make it clear that our doctrine describes Jesus as the revealer of God's character. if our doctrine doesn't clarify a loving God as displayed by Jesus while He was on earth, we need to re-look at our doctrine. {page 66} * * * * * I also believe that our church has sometimes yielded to the temptation to make our doctrines more about us than about our God. And I think that's one reason why there are more ex-Seventh-day Adventists than Seventh-day Adventists in the United States today. {page 67} Gregory
Administrators Gail Posted July 24, 2014 Administrators Posted July 24, 2014 I like the second one... It reminds me of learning to see Jesus in the book of Revelation rather than the antichrist. The antichrist IS there, no doubt, but there is a much bigger Jesus thread running through the book from beginning to end. Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
mel20 Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 If SDA has no distintive, no peculiar and unique message to proclaim to the world, then there is no reason for God to raised up the SDA churh. Complaining to some SDA groups that become too proud and arrogant about our doctrines is understandable, and those groups must be 99% guaranteed to produce hatred or at least uncomfortable within us. BUT THOSE DEFECTIVE GROUPS MUST NEVER BE SUCH AN EXCUSE FOR YOU AND ME IN TAKING ADVANTAGE TO CHEERFULLY BURIED ALIVE OUR BIBLICAL DOCTRINES... THEN WE FEEL NO BURDEN ANYMORE TO SPREAD OUR DISCINCTIVE MESSAGE GOD GIVEN US BY MISAPPLYING: "JESUS. ALL" Please don't do that. Please... Even more non Adventists comprehend this issue as LAZINESS. Yes. Liberals mostly using this "short cut" because they are more care about politically correctness and don't wanna offend anybody. 5, 10 15, 30 years preaching theology and human reasonings only, week after week, but never to touch and teach any doctrine? This is way too much! "Jesus. All" is a method to avoid teaching all doctrines. Very deceitful but subtle! This would create such kindda magic mantra: Let's talk more and more about Jesus... and less and less about doctrines. "Doctrine" is not a dirty word. Oh please..do not lose our identity. We are the Seventh-day Adventists! Never ever let yourself without your own decided answer: Is SDA purposely exist to become arrogance, exclusiveness and proud? Or as God's remnant church for His special purpose to give certain warnings and rebukes to every nation, kindreth, tongue and people soon before the close of probation? You know your answer but God will be the Judge. But now, at least we should be fair that it is not wise to become disappointed if the worldwide SDA organization should not be the same as the other denominations but you still as a member of SDA. If you keep complaining that SDA should have no difference, why don't you try another denomination near you? Then your complaints would be greatly appreciated. But not while you're still as a SDA member.
