Moderators Gerr Posted January 31, 2014 Moderators Posted January 31, 2014 The thing is, if your best is jeans and a t-shirt, or that's where you feel your most comfortable and most able to focus on worship, then it really should not matter. If you need that ritual of wearing a suit or nice dress, then by all means do that. Quote
pegleg bates Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 I completely agree, people who offer unpopular opinions are behaving badly, and we should passively aggressively threaten them into submission. Quote
LegalEagle Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Dressing up for church is not an idea that is strictly associated with Adventism or Sis. White. Certainly, long before either existed, people have been putting on their "Sunday Best" for church every week. I believe that the way you dress influences your attitude and demeanor. Today, our society and culture (here in the U.S.) has adopted the idea that you should put your best foot forward with respect to your dress when entering into corporate worship. Is it a mandate from the Bible? Probably not. But personally, I feel like I am in a frame of corporate worship when I am dressed up a bit. When I was in law school, I took all of my exams wearing slacks and a button down with hard bottom shoes. I approached each one as if I were going to work and dressing the part helped me maintain that thought process. I would not feel comfortable dressing in sweats, kicks (sneakers), and a basketball jersey for church because it would not place me in the correct mind-frame. If others can do that, more power them - I don't have any reason to believe that they won't benefit from the service based on their dress, it's just not for me. What I find disturbing, however, is the one of so many of these comments. I check this site periodically but rarely comment. I can't understand why some comments are so divisive. It's unnecessary. Let's put away the harsh words, the unnecessary ridicule and destructive criticisms and show a bit more love. Happy Sabbath to everyone! God bless! Quote

CoAspen Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Never thought about it much. Maybe some people want to 'dress up' and others don't. Personaly, I have a dificult time thinking God in anyway notices how people are dressed...that is a human trait. There are cultural aspects to all of this and religious aspects, again human constructs. So, I say to each their own! What ever works for the individual and the rest of us tend to our own way. Quote
pierrepaul Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 When I was a lad, I heard the "Would you dress up to meet the President?" argument. I would counter with "What if the President was your father?" I dress up five, sometimes six days a week in suits and ties in order to impress men. I enjoy taking a break from this on sabbath. Tallmark Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Lot of good points I agree with. How you dress affects what you're doing. I'm in a t-shirt and jeans all week, but I don't usually wear a tie on Sabbath unless I'm on the platform. When I go to the gym, I wear a tank top and sweat pants unless I work legs. Then I wear shorts. You got to feel comfortable. In our SS, some wear ties, others wear nice shirts and tops. One guy used to ride a bicycle and wear a spandex suit. Whatever floats your boat, brothers and sisters. I do take exception to women dressing like hookers. I rarely see that, but I have seen it. Quote
nuff sed Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 How else should we dress when we are entering the presence of divinity? We dress in our best.. If that happens to be jeans and T shirt so be it.................This is not generally the case, however...Nuff Sed Quote
