bonnie Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 A presidential election is different than a governors election, but I do get a little kick out of Trumps increasing popularity. Just as Ventura enjoyed for his no holds barred comments. A very poorly financed campaign and his bluntness was a cause for jeering and mocking during the campaign. Less than 500,000 in campaign expense and he won over Humphrey's millions. Until towards the end he didn't even have much in the way of radio and TV ads either. bonnie Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Did Ventura bring that "breath of fresh air"? Or was he trumped the a opportunity? Actually he squandered what he had been handed by the surprising victory. He became known more for his temper tantrums and blaming everyone else. He loved the criticism while running and didn't take it well after elected. As for Trump not being a conservative at the moment I don't think that is uppermost in the minds of his growing supporters. hch Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 That means then that Hitler should have never been condemned for the atrocities he was responsible for. Does it really mean that? Hitler was the basest of men. " And He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:" (Dan_2:21). "This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will, and setteth up over it the basest of men." (Dan_4:17) "For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another. For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them" (Psa 75:6 -8). In America, we place too much stock in the old adage "The best man always wins." So we think we got a good deal when the new President comes into office. In the current Presidential race, look for the worst scoundrel that you can imagine and you'll probably be able to predict the election if the Lord does not come first. But if the candidates are good at donning their sheep's clothing the basest candidate will most likely look like the best one. "Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother" (Deu_17:15). CoAspen Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 ......he had to do his share of double dealing, obfuscating and trickery. Tis the world of politics! In doing what is best for a business, relationship or for the country, total truth may not always be the best course of action or in the best interest of both parties. When people call call others 'liar', especially the president, they have spent little time in getting to know all the facts or have the ability to know all the facts. Usually it's because that person has a different party affiliation or doesn't like the results of a particular decision. We all make compromises in our daily lives as part of getting along with work requirements, relationships, etc. Considering that a president is elected by only 30% or so of the public, since often the voting for such is around 50% of total population, not everyone is getting what they want or think the decisions are correct ones. We all have our personal beliefs of what is best in anything. So calling someone a 'liar' is the easy way out of the thought process. Tom Wetmore and phkrause 2 Quote

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 21, 2015 Administrators Posted August 21, 2015 Despite the challenge given directly to a couple of our most outspoken conservatives here, both seem to have avoided stepping up and telling us what positions on key issues of Trump they disagree with. Just as with all of the Republican candidates we mostly get a picture of every conservative just playing dodge ball with him trying very hard to avoid actually disagreeing with the underlying substance of his tactless and rude presentation of his positions and ideas. That just tends to confirm essential agreement with much of what he says. As has been said several times already, he voices the heart of the far right wing agenda that is taking over the Republican Party. Few Republicans are unwilling to fundamentally disagree with that agenda because deep down they hold those views themselves. The polls may just be holding back that curtain so we can peek at the true heart of the Republican Party. A large percentage really do like Trump, his views and the ugly way he hurls them at people. phkrause, GayatfootofCross and Jeannieb43 3 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." bonnie Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Before you polish your liberal halo to much keep in mind that almost everything that is said by liberals concerning Trump and conservative supporters could be taken from the Democratic playbook concerning Ventura. At the very least you could try something a little more original. While you are trashing conservatives over Trump remember it was Democrats after all their condemning of Ventura jumped ship and were responsible for electing Ventura. Running a no money campaign against a Humphrey in liberal MN and winning against the much revered Humphrey name was unthinkable to the nay sayers. I didn't vote for Ventura but did get a kick out of the disbelief of the Democrats. Personally I have not paid much attention to what Trump or any of them have to say. So can't really address that. But as to how he says it,what is it you would expect from Trump?.In addition I doubt he would be getting the attention he is without it. Either the right or the left. I don't have any more respect for those on the left they say some pretty nasty things, couched in more acceptable language. I have had some workmen at our home. Surprised the heck out of me when Trump was brought up and in a favorable manner. Two were MN democrats and really hope Trump wins the primary as he has their vote. It would be rather entertaining to see roughly 35% of democrats jump ship again. Big in their favor is illegal immigration, imagine democrats being against that B/W Photodude 1 Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Ran against an almost impossible democrat to beat here, little money, unconventional campaign and to say he was outspoken is being diplomatic. Democrats were delected as he would certainly demolish all hope of a republican victory. Reported and re-reported every comment he made. If it wasn't blunt and brash enough coming from Ventura, they added their own embellishment. Called him a clown, sexist, racist, etc. Every report was "Has Ventura gone to far this time" Why don't the republicans take him to task" except they forgot he was running as an Independent" The media and democrats were beside themselves with glee when he took after a single mother. That surely would do it,now he was done. A young single mother asked what he would do as governor for her to help her get an education and childcare and reasonable housing. Ventura told her that neither he or the state had gotten her pregnant and he suggested she speak to the father. Each retelling only increased his popularity. 34% democrats The democrats as well as republicans were stunned when he won and won over Edited August 21, 2015 by bonnie Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 21, 2015 Administrators Posted August 21, 2015 If you are not paying attention to Trump how do you know he is "a clone of Ventura"? You seem rather specific and certain of the similarities for someone not paying attention to one of them. Not being from or familiar with Minnesota politics or Ventura's campaign, or even caring about politics in Minnesota, I really don't quite get you liberal halo and lack of originality reference. Doesn't make much sense. It seems like your continued reference to old local political issues is just another dodge to avoid actually answering the question of what you think of Trumps ideas and political positions. It should take you muck effort to actually look it up if you really don't know. I heard a news commentator on the radio today that summed up Trumps popularity as simply that he is just saying what people are thinking and would like to get away with saying themselves. phkrause 1 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." I heard a news commentator on the radio today that summed up Trumps popularity as simply that he is just saying what people are thinking and would like to get away with saying themselves. Trump has been around a long time. Maybe you were unaware of that. My opinion of Trump was formed long ago, before this election cycle. It is pretty hard to avoid the hyper reaction to what Trump says on a daily basis. I read the headline when some journalist was salivating over Anchor Babies remark..What the remark was I don't know,I didn't read further, but I am assuming it was not politically correct and was classic brash Trump. I didn't watch the debates and but know from headlines he caused a stir. I am sure you can fill me in. Continued reference to old politics is because the democrats and many republicans are singing the same some, same verse. Each side trying to be more righteous in their objection to Trump. Just as most thought Ventura would open mouth and insert foot right out of the campaign, same goes for Trump. Both were expected to wash out. Ventura didn't and Trump doesn't seem to be doing so yet. Bingo..... I heard a news commentator on the radio today that summed up Trumps popularity as simply that he is just saying what people are thinking and would like to get away with saying themselves. That was the appeal that was finally understood to late concerning Ventura. This is what was heard waiting in the election line to vote. "Finally someone that is not afraid to tell it like it is without apology" Maybe some attention should be paid to ,Those that forget history are prone to repeat it. As to your liberal halo, you seem to focus on conservatives liking Trumps positions, you may be unpleasantly surprised to find a healthy mix of liberals in there.
