Samie Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 From another thread: Samie, If you want to discuss the resurrection at the SC, and whether all the wicked are resurrected at that time - please, start a new thread. We're looking for evidence concerning whether the redeemed will still be on this earth DURING the wrath plagues (the 7 vials). Thanks much. Based on what I understand from the Bible, I believe everyone, including the wicked, will be resurrected when our Lord comes again. He said that when He returns He will reward each one according to what each has done (Matt 16:27; Rev 22:12). The fact that every one will be rewarded, necessitates every one to be present to receive his own reward. Hence, all people born into this world, righteous or wicked, must be personally there. KJV Matthew 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. NAS Revelation 22:12 "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. This is why Revelation says every eye will see Him come: KJV Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Quote
DreamWeaver Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 When it says in the bible that "every eye will see Him" I believe it means that everyone who is alive at the time will see Him. As for the wicked being resurrected. Its super clear that those who are righteous will be in the first resurrection and those who are wicked will be resurrected in the second resurrection after the one thousand years of rest is done. I notice the verses that you have posted. And just to let you know, the words "every man" are not always meant to mean every single solitary person who has ever lived. If I were about to give a speech at a birthday party and before I spoke I said, "Is everyone here?" Of course I wouldn't be asking if everyone both dead and alive is at the birthday party. In fact, if someone really wanted to muddy up what I was saying, they could also assume that I must have invited every single animal that has ever lived on earth too because I simply said "everyone" and not "every man". 8thdaypriest Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 I agree that the "wicked" will be resurrected to face judgment at the Second Coming. Daniel 12:1 "At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book. 2 And many [multitudes] of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever. (NKJ) This is definitely the resurrection at the Second Coming. Those raised to "shame and everlasting contempt" will be the wicked. This is a FOREVER judgment. They are "cut off" and will DIE and burn up with the earth. I see no reason whatsoever, to resurrect them AGAIN, to judge them AGAIN and the execute them by fire AGAIN, after the 1000 years of the 7th millennium. Our God is made to seem very cruel by such things. Matthew 25:31-34 & 41 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand,`Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world’ . . . Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:’” Once again, this judgment takes place AT the Second Coming. Where Samie and I differ, concerns those who are neither "wicked" [those knowingly rebellious] nor righteous [those who have believed, who knowingly serve God]. These would be the ignorant, immature, or mentally handicapped. These CANNOT CHOSE. I believe these people will be raised as "the rest of the dead" to grow up, learn the ways of God, to learn of Christ and what He did, and then to CHOOSE whom they will serve. They will be governed by the redeemed as priests under Christ. Those who rebel, will come up as the army of Gog/Magog. Samie believes that every human being has [past tense] been saved by the death of Jesus, and therefore begins life with his/her name written into the Book of Life. The only way that one's name can be "blotted out" is IF that person rejects Christ. I do NOT believe this. I believe one's name is written into that Book WHEN he/she enters into covenant with God through Christ. OT believers brought a lamb for sacrifice. NT believers are baptized and confess the name of Jesus. Samie and Robert and I have debated this in a couple of very long threads. I really do NOT want to repeat all of that again. I do not believe that Samie or Robert will ever change their minds concerning this issue, and I have seen nothing - so far - to cause me to change my mind. DreamWeaver Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) First Resurrection: Righteous Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. (Revelation 20:6) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshiped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. (Revelation 20:4-5) Second Resurrection: Wicked And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (20:1-3) And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. B/W Photodude Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Don't forget the special ressurections. Jesus told Caiphus he would see him coming in the clouds of heaven. EGW mentions that there will be a limited special ressurection for those involved in his crucifixion. EGW also mentioned a ressurection of all those who died under the Three Angels Message prior to his coming. This was a special comfort to my mother before she died as she always wanted to see Jesus coming. Samie Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Jesus Himself tells us there will come A TIME when ALL in the graves - both righteous and wicked - will come out from their graves: NIVJohn 5:28-29 28 "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out-- those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. For me, the definite time referred to by the phrase "a time is coming" is at the Second Coming, but if not, when? Notice the sequence of the resurrection, those who have done good rises first, followed by those who have done evil. In Paul's words, "The dead in Christ shall rise first". If there is a first group to rise there must necessarily be a next group to rise in that period of time. Just like a reception I attended where the program host announced: "Since space is limited, the first to be served are the sponsors." He does not mean that the other guests will be served a week later. Same scenario at the Second Coming, if the righteous are resurrected at 8:00 AM, the wicked are resurrected at 8:30 AM. Jesus said He will reward every man according to what each has done. John 5:28, 29 explain what rewards are to be given when He comes. Quote
Samie Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 As to the special resurrections, I have not yet found a single text from the Bible that backs it up. Rev 1:7 tells us even those wicked Roman soldiers will see Him come in the clouds. For me, that is pointing to the resurrection of the wicked at the Second Coming, NOT to a special resurrection. The only way that one's name can be "blotted out" is IF that person rejects Christ. I do NOT believe this. Jesus said that overcomers will not be blotted out from the Book of Life (Rev 3:5). Therefore it is the non-overcomers who will be blotted out. I believe one's name is written into that Book WHEN he/she enters into covenant with God through Christ. OT believers brought a lamb for sacrifice. NT believers are baptized and confess the name of Jesus. It seems your position sits well with "saved by works", since for you, people are born hell-bound until written in the book of life. And one can only be written when he enters into covenant with God. Samie Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Since the Bible tells of wicked people who are now dead but will see the Lord when He comes, the phrase "special resurrection" became a necessity. Quote
B/W Photodude Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 As to the special resurrections, I have not yet found a single text from the Bible that backs it up. Rev 1:7 tells us even those wicked Roman soldiers will see Him come in the clouds. The Seventh Plague and the Special Resurrection There is a mighty earthquake, “such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great” (Revelation 16:17, 18). The firmament appears to open and shut. The glory from the throne of God seems flashing through. The mountains shake like a reed in the wind, and ragged rocks are scattered on every side.... The whole earth heaves and swells like the waves of the sea. Its surface is breaking up. Its very foundations seem to be giving way. Mountain chains are sinking. Inhabited islands disappear. The seaports that have become like Sodom for wickedness are swallowed up by the angry waters.... Great hailstones, every one “about the weight of a talent,” are doing their work of destruction (verses 19, 21) .... – {LDE 271.1} Graves are opened, and “many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth ... awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” (Daniel 12:2). All who have died in the faith of the third angel’s message come forth from the tomb glorified to hear God’s covenant of peace with those who have kept His law. “They also which pierced Him” (Revelation 1:7), those that mocked and derided Christ’s dying agonies, and the most violent opposers of His truth and His people, are raised to behold Him in His glory, and to see the honor placed upon the loyal and obedient.—The Great Controversy, 636, 637 (1911). – {LDE 271.2} There seems to be a resurrection well before the actual second coming of Jesus. I do not see anywhere in the writings of EGW that a general and for all of history resurrection of everyone that ever lived resurrection. I also do not believe the Bible supports it. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Rev 20:5 (Consider the context of this verse) Unfortunately, I am not one of those who demands a Bible text for everything I believe. I am confident in the writings of EGW. I believe the prophetic ministry she gave thru her life to have been a special gift to end time people. Now, believing what she wrote when Bible texts are not to be found is for things that are not "pillars of the faith." Core beliefs of the SDA religion should be backed up with Bible texts. So, if you don't believe in a special resurrection, does it matter. Maybe, maybe not. But it is not something I would consider important to teach as part of Bible studies. But it was Christ Who spoke Matt 16:27 and Rev 22:12 where He said "every man" will be rewarded when He comes; and Paul said "We shall all appear before the judgment seat of Christ" (2 Cor 5:10). Those who lived and died in ignorance - without knowledge of Yahweh, His law, or His Son, are NEITHER "righteous" NOR "wicked". These people have not rejected the LORD. They never knew about Him. Any "sins" were only those of ignorance, which God "overlooks" until such time as knowledge and willful disobedience (or submission and repentance) decide the future of these individuals. If - on the other hand, these are people who lived and died in ignorance because of age, or circumstances, then the contest for these souls is NOT OVER. Samie Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 All who have done good, and "all" who have done evil, will rise on that DAY. Those who have sinned ignorantly - will remain asleep in death . . . You seemed to have overlooked v28: "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice". All in their graves will hear. Who are the "all in their graves"? Using your list: 1. all who have done good; 2. all who have done evil; 3. those who have sinned ignorantly. The 3 groups will hear. How can the 3rd group hear when as you said they will remain asleep in death??? All who have done good, and "all" who have done evil, will rise on that DAY. Those who have sinned ignorantly - will remain asleep in death, until the 8th millennium, when they will rise as "the rest of the dead". I'd be glad to be shown even just one verse from the Bible that "Those who have sinned ignorantly - will remain asleep in death, until the 8th millennium". I have a habit of accepting any doctrine backed up by the Bible. We have debated several times, on the identity of "the rest". Samie (and SDAs) say "the rest" are all of the wicked. I disagree. They will be nations, in the four corners of the earth. Why release Satan to deceive them, if they are already condemned????? What's the point of THAT??? Don't get me wrong, but I think Satan is the one to be asked. The Bible is simply stating what are to transpire: Revelation 20:7-8 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. "Satan shall be loosed to deceive the nations" has a different shade of meaning from "Satan shall be loosed and shall go out to deceive the nations". If - on the other hand, these are people who lived and died in ignorance because of age, or circumstances, then the contest for these souls is NOT OVER. The Bible is clear that our conception, birth, birthplace and where we are to live are all determined by God Who knows the end from the beginning. To him given much, much is required; to him given few, few is required. I surmise to him given none, none is required. At his Second Coming, Jesus said He will reward EVERY MAN according to his works. To those whose names remain in the Book of Life, eternal life; to all others, suffering and death in the 7 last plagues, their first death; and finally thrown into the lake of fire, their second death. If - on the other hand, these are people who lived and died in ignorance because of age, or circumstances, then the contest for these souls is NOT OVER. The "priests of God and of Christ" (those raised first) will teach and govern these people. And Satan will seek to deceive as many as he can. Those whom Satan deceives will join him and the army of Gog/Magog. Those whom Satan cannot deceive, because they have come to know Christ - those will join the family of God and will enter "the City". So why are there suckling and weaned child in the holy mountain of God if only those who will enter the city are those who have come to know Christ? I have asked you this question sometime ago. I don't remember you giving a biblical explanation. Quote

In some ways 8thdaypriest , I agree with you wholeheartedly re: salvation of those who haven't been afforded on this earth, the intellectual capacity to accept or reject the gospel message. OTOH there isn't a thread of biblical evidence for the continuation of efforts made beyond Jesus second coming, for the deliverance of rewards. 11Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy.” 12“Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” 14Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. 15Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie. 16“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches. I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne.e I am the bright morning star.” 17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life. 18And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book. 20He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! This tells me all cases will be settled before Jesus returns, not just the intellectually capable. Since Jesus (God the Father) will be fair to all those who didn't have a chance to be proven by personal choice before Jesus arrives, and being omniscient, He knows whether upon resurrection, how they will respond, those that would respond negatively will be allowed to stay in sleep beyond eternity while those He knows will give a positive response to His presence upon resurrection, will receive the life they would appreciate, as any newly created creature would naturally expect from a beneficent Creator. Gill's Exposition of the Entire BibleAnd, behold, I come quickly,..... This is repeated, to confirm the truth of Christ's second coming, and the speediness of it, and to point at the time when the above shall be, and to add what follows. And my reward is with me: which words are taken out of Isaiah 40:10 and which being compared together, furnish out a clear proof of Christ being the true Jehovah, the eternal God. There is a reward of debt, or a due reward, a reward of punishment, which is the just recompense of reward, which, shall be righteously given to wicked men for their sin, Hebrews 2:2 and there is a reward of grace, which is also called the recompence of reward, the reward of the inheritance, which is no other than the gift of eternal life, which God of his free grace bestows upon his people, Hebrews 11:26 and both these are with Christ; they are in his hands, he has authority from God, as Mediator, to inflict vengeance on the wicked, and to give eternal life to his people; both which he will do, for this is with him: [/quote] God is Love! I think I made that clear that only the Bible is a source of doctrine and everything else is just nice to know, and not important to teach people such as new converts. They can find those things for themselves along with the special things God may wish to share with them. Things important for others to teach people might not be important to you and vice versa. What I cannot find in Scriptures, you may be able to find, and vice versa. What is doctrine to me, may just be nice to know for you, and vice versa. The issue whether a special resurrection is based on Scriptures is important to me, but not to you. I respect your position. Let's get back to a general resurrection which you say the Bible does not support. Quote
Samie Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 There seems to be a resurrection well before the actual second coming of Jesus. I do not see anywhere in the writings of EGW that a general and for all of history resurrection of everyone that ever lived resurrection. I also do not believe the Bible supports it. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Rev 20:5 (Consider the context of this verse) Let's take up what I highlighted in red in the above quote. Have you considered this verse? NAS Acts 24:15 having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. For me, the verse is emphatically telling of A RESURRECTION where both the righteous and wicked are raised. How does the verse appear to you? Quote
8thdaypriest Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 So why are there suckling and weaned child in the holy mountain of God if only those who will enter the city are those who have come to know Christ? I have asked you this question sometime ago. I don't remember you giving a biblical explanation. I DID answer it Samie. All children will be resurrected at the 8th millennium, along with "the rest of the dead". Then they will "grow up as calves as the stall". They will live in the earth restored. And they will be brought to Jerusalem, just like children were brought anciently. They are STILL CHILDREN because they sleep through the 7th millennium, and only awaken AFTER the redeemed from the "first resurrection" return to the earth with Jesus. Isaiah 11:8 "An infant will play on a cobra's hole, a toddler put his hand in a viper's nest." (CJB) This is back on the earth - not in Heaven. If all children are resurrected when Jesus returns this next time, and 1000 years passes from the second coming to their appearance "in the holy mountain of God", then what happened during the 1000 years?? Did they NOT GROW for 1000 years?? That doesn't make sense. That would mean they will STAY children forever. There is "no marriage or giving in marriage" therefore no conception, in the Kingdom of Messiah, so WHY are there STILL children AFTER the 1000 years of the 7th millennium?? Even Mrs. White says she "saw" children planing on the hills outside of the City. Children are NOT OLD ENOUGH to become "priests", and everyone from the "first resurrection" will become "priests of God and of Christ" (Rev. 20:5-6). Quote 8thdaypriest
8thdaypriest Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 First Resurrection: Righteous Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. (20:7-9) There IS NO VERSE which says, "These are all of the wicked from the first 6000 years." Those from the "first resurrection" become "priests of God and of Christ". Who do they minister FOR - as priests? There is NO NEED for priests, if no one else needs to learn the ways of God. Quote 8thdaypriest
8thdaypriest Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Jesus Himself tells us there will come A TIME when ALL in the graves - both righteous and wicked - will come out from their graves: NIVJohn 5:28-29 28 "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out-- those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. Infants and young children have NOT "done good". They wouldn't know what "good" is. If God speaks to Israel, and says "let all come to the mountain" - then the "all" means "all" Israelites - NOT all mankind. I believe Jesus was speaking to Jews/Israelites in the context of John 5:28-29. He would be saying that "all" - meaning everyone who had ever entered into covenant - will be raised to face the LORD for judgment, on THAT DAY. At that time. That would FIT with ancient Day of Atonement types. The scapegoat was banished to the pit - on THAT DAY, carrying the sins of believing humble Israel. And no - Jews do NOT believe that the Day of Atonement is judgment day for "all" mankind. They believe only those who have entered into covenant with Yahweh are "judged" on that day. I believe that all those who had knowledge of Yahweh and His Law, will be judged on that Day. That certainly does NOT include young children. Quote 8thdaypriest

After having been ushered to heaven for the wedding of the Lamb, Rev 19 tells of the righteous coming down to earth with Christ for the battle of Armageddon - the final phase of the 7 plagues - where all wicked will be slain. Satan will be imprisoned and the1000 years starts. We will be camping with Christ here on earth for 1000 years. The wicked, having been slain before the start of the 1000 years - their first death, will be resurrected at the end of the 1000 years to be thrown into the lake of fire - their second death. Quote
