Looks like 100% SDA....

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Having attended a one-day One Project gathering in Boulder a while back, I will attest that it was almost 100% Adventist.  I will also attest that it was Adventists who care about everyone else - they want to make Adventism inclusive rather than exclusive. Knowing Jesus first; becoming SDA later.

The facts often differ from that reality that people claim.

Just my 2¢ .....  Being SDA doesn't automatically give someone (minister or not) the stamp of God's approval on whatever they say or write.  There are many, many non-SDA speakers and authors who I think are/were inspired by God.  To name a few:  Oswald Chambers, AW Tozer, Gandhi, CS Lewis, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Beth Moore, Max Lucado.

I found it rather distasteful when some complained about the inclusion of non-SDA speakers at the ONE Project.  If SDAs already "have it all," why then would we even need something like the ONE Project?

Amen, Pam.  Other great authors - Joseph Prince, Bill Johnson, Leif Hetland, Smith Wigglesworth, John Bevere.  All of these people point to a relationship with Jesus Christ - not a relationship with a religion - as the path to redemption.  Bono once said that religion is what you are left with when the Holy Spirit leaves the building.

Glad you also mentioned Bono - some truly profound spiritual messages from a most unlikely source.  I have gravitated to mostly non-Adventist authors for my spiritual and theological reading.  I find the spiritual insights to be refreshing and inspired, even some that would raise eyebrows among some Adventists.   Sadly I have found many Adventist authors more interested in rehashing the same old tired ideas and themes with very little in the way of fresh and new thoughts or even new ways of expressing old truths.  I am also current reading through a collection of classic books that are exclusively by non-SDA authors... The collection is commonly known as the Bible.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

I suggest that you will  find that the SDA speakers at TOP do not rehash the same tired ideas.

Also, I do not believe that non-SDA speakers have been excluded from TOP Gatherings.

I have found it more productive spending more time with the Book than with a book written by someone about the Book.

I also get more meaning from the Bible when others share their ideas.  Whether I agree with others or not, just the discourse motivates me to study more.

I agree that others can certainly stimulate me to dig deeper.  But knowing that God himself is speaking to me when I open the Book is the best motivator of all.

Who says we need the One Project?  Furthermore, who says we need to listen to non-Adventist speakers to find more truth?  Do we not have the Bible and Ellen White?  Does God need for His people to learn in Babylon today?  If so, why are they called to leave it?  "Come out of her, my people, and be separate" we are told.  Does this apply to us?  (See 2 Cor. 6:17; Rev. 18:4.)

Green:  Do you know who the speakers were at the Seattle One Project?  If so, to whom do you object.

I will point out to you that a lady commonly known a Ellen White had many books in her library that were written by non-SDA writers and she read those books.

Well, I guess it is to bad that you were not, I suppose, living in her day so that you could advise her on how to correct the errors of her ways.

AS to who says that we need The One Project:  The thousands of people that are attending the Gatherings.  That is who.

Green, you may disagree, which is your right.  But, I have answered your question.

I agree with Gregory - let the market decide who needs the One Project.  The fact that the Seattle gathering sold out is a testimony of how many SDA's need it.  I can't afford (time or money-wise) to go to the Gatherings; but I am sure looking forward to the 1:1 coming back to Boulder in August!  I will testify that I need it if I am to remain and SDA.

I'll probably get flack for this; but if we have the Bible and learn from it, why do we "need" EGW?  We may like her and want her inspiration; but we don't "need" her.  If we are indeed "sola scriptura", we only "need" the Bible. That being said, the wisdom of others (including EGW; but also folks like Billy Graham, A.W.Tozer, Oswald Chambers, Smith Wigglesworth, Joseph Prince, Bill Johnson, Jon Cahn, etc., etc., etc.) is helpful and motivates deeper study of the Word.

Gop did not give EGW to the SDA denomination to replace the Bible.  The Bible is the standard.

God gave her to the SDA denomination to guide it through its developing stage.

That is inaccurate.  It is true that Ellen White does not replace the Bible, which is the standard.  It is not true that Ellen White was only given for the church's developing stage.  I take exception to such an implication, whether or not it was intended.  Our church still needs Ellen White today, and God designs that her writings should still guide us.

I take exception to your cynicism.  God is not in the business of making mistakes with His prophets, and those who attempted to advise Mrs. White in her day (there were some) received their proper rebuke.

For your information, I am not against writers based on their church affiliation.  If I were, most of the Bible might be proscribed, for it was written by Jews. I am against, however, people who have a deliberate agenda to lead people astray from God's saving truth.  God will take care of His people, but His people must do their part to warn others of the deceptions to which they are being exposed.

Joe,

If I sell doughnuts I will have far more customers than if I sell whole-wheat bread.  Does that mean people need the junk food?  Does the fact that less than 15% of Adventist church-goers today read Mrs. White mean that they do not need her?  You see, your conclusions about what is needed, and Gregory's too, are based on a false premise.

Blessings,

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so

Green:  You have both misquoted me and taken what I said out of context.  I never said that EGFW was only given to guide the Church through its developing stage.

Please go back and read what I said.  She clearly had other functions, which I did not list.

The context was that of her being canonical, which she was not.  Only the Bible is canonical

O.K.

Tell us who spoke at the Seattle Conference who was attempting to lead people astray from God's saving truth.

Please tell us who was not a SDA and attempting to lead people astray.

Please tell us who was SDA and attempting to lead people astray.

Yes, I was cynical in my comment about you giving advice to EGW.  But, it caused me to get an answer from you.

But, I am now confused.  Just who in TOP Do you think is attempting to lead people astray at the Seattle Gathering?  Do you think that Japhet and the other SDA leaders were attempting to lead people astray?

Do you think that people with whom you disagree are attempting to lead others astray?

By the way, as you well know, EGW clearly taught that there are people outside the SDA denomination who are honest in heart,. committed to Christ a nd attempting to do what God wants. Do you believe that you hae the ability to determine who is honest in heart and who is attempting to lead others astray?

You and I disagree on some points.  I, consider you to be honest in purpose.  I do not consider you to be attempting to lead people astray.  Do you consider me to be attempting to lead others astray?

Green, I am confused.  I am not being cynical in asking.  I simply do not know and I would like an answer.

As to people attempting to advise EGW being rebuked, some were and she followed the advice of others.  But, you did not say that she rebuked all.  She did not.  A classic example is when she was advised to travel to Australia.  She did.  There are many other examples.

I am not the only one to have perceived your statement in the manner which I have addressed, so you might wish to consider improving your wordsmithing.  We are living, as you know, in perilous times when it comes to truth versus error and falsehood.  One cannot be too careful to sift the chaff from the wheat.  If I have taken you out of context, perhaps there was insufficient context provided in the first place.  Please consider that.  There are many views on this board concerning Ellen White, and to see someone who might suggest that she was for another time would not be too surprising.  Call me gullible, if you wish, but you have a weak case to make in saying I misquoted.  I simply believed you at face value for what you had said.

Regarding "canonical," this term means nothing to me.  Ellen White, Paul, Daniel, and Moses all had the same Source for their inspiration.  As such, the authority of their writings equally harks back to God who gave them their messages.  The Bible calls such "scripture," so that is what I call it.  All of them are "lesser light" leading to the "greater light" of Christ Himself, the source of the light.

Blessings,
Green Cochoa.

I've always wondered where non-SDAs were getting their idea that Adventists considered EGW on par with the Bible.  Is that really what you've meant to write?
