BOSTON  MASSACURE

Answer: The Boston Massacre occurred on this day in 1770 when British soldiers in Boston opened fire on a group of American colonists. Tensions between the American colonists and the British were already running high when a crowd of jeering Bostonians slinging snowballs gathered around a small group of British soldiers guarding the Boston Customs House. Private Hugh Montgomery was hit, leading him to discharge his rifle at the crowd. The other soldiers began firing a moment later, and when the smoke cleared, five colonists were dead.

CQD

Answer: CQD is one of the first distress signals adopted for radio use prior to SOS. It was established on February 1, 1904 by the Marconi International Marine Communication Company. "CQD" was understood by wireless operators to mean, "All stations: distress." On April 15, 1912, RMS Titanic radio operator Jack Phillips initially sent "CQD", which was still commonly used by British ships. Harold Bride, the junior radio operator, suggested using "SOS", saying half-jokingly that it might be his last chance to use the new code. Phillips thereafter began to alternate between the two. Though Bride survived the sinking, Phillips did not.

ASPRIN

Answer: Aspirin, also known as acetylsalicylic acid, is the most common drug in household medicine cabinets. Acetylsalicylic acid was originally made from a chemical found in the bark of willow trees. In 1897, Bayer employee Felix Hoffmann found a way to create a stable form of the drug that was easier and more pleasant to take. After obtaining the patent rights, Bayer began distributing aspirin in powder form to physicians to give to their patients. The brand name came from “a” for acetyl, “spir” from the spirea plant (a source of salicin) and the suffix “in,” commonly used for medications. It quickly became the number-one drug worldwide.

Answer: On this day in 1959, the first Barbie doll went on display at the American Toy Fair in New York City. Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. In a series of novels published by Random House in the 1960s, her parents' names are given as George and Margaret Roberts from the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin. Businesswoman Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration. Mattel has sold over a billion Barbie dolls, making it the company’s largest and most profitable line.
