Answer: The use of the word “hello” as a telephone greeting has been credited to Thomas Edison. Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the telephone in 1885, never liked "hello" and advocated the use of "ahoy" as a telephonic greeting. However, "hello" quickly became the standard when the first telephone exchanges, equipped by Edison, were set up across the country, and operating manuals adopted the word. By 1889, central telephone exchange operators were known as "hello-girls" due to the association between the greeting and the telephone.

JIMMY  CARTER

Answer: Jimmy Carter, the first president born in a hospital, is also the only U.S. President to graduate from United States Naval Academy. Carter attended Georgia Southwestern College and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946, graduating in the top ten percent of his class. In the Navy he became a submariner, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets, rising to the rank of lieutenant. After the death of his father in 1953, Carter left his naval career and returned home to Georgia to manage his family's peanut-growing business.

THE PULLMEN  STRIKE

Answer: The Pullman Strike was a nationwide railroad strike that took place during the summer of 1894. It began when nearly 4,000 factory employees of the Pullman railway company started a strike in response to reduced wages. Boycotts and riots ensued, and President Grover Cleveland eventually called in the Army to bust up the strikers. On June 28, 1894, just six days after the end of the deadly Pullman strike, President Grover Cleveland declared Labor Day a national holiday, as a conciliatory gesture toward the American labor movement.

Answer: On March 28, 1969, the final episode of Star Trek's third season was scheduled to air. But when it came time to air the episode "Turnabout Intruder," the Enterprise hit an obstacle it could not overcome. NBC pre-empted the show with a special report on the death of former president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Over two months later, "Turnabout Intruder," confusingly appeared at a new night and time. It would be the last episode of Star Trek's original series. Despite the writing of thousands of fan letters begging for a fourth season, the show had been canceled.

TONY  AWARD

Answer: The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, more commonly known as the Tony Award, recognizes excellence in live Broadway theatre. The awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at an annual ceremony in Midtown Manhattan. The awards are named after Antoinette "Tony" Perry, co-founder of the American Theatre Wing. The Tony Awards are considered the highest U.S. theatre honor, the New York theatre industry's equivalent to the Academy Awards for film, the Emmy Awards for television, and the Grammy Awards for music.
