The opposite of this truth, i.e., that God abandons, is Satan's masterpiece of propaganda because he wishes that men would look upon God as "a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.” Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion. Where most are confused on this issue is the point of what it is that God destroys. The sinner destroys his or her own character. God destroys what's left (soul and body) in hell. God never destroys our character. Character is destroyed through choices, but God never forces a single one of our choices. Once we have chosen our character, God chooses our destiny based on that character. 2 hours ago, LifeHiscost said: 13For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. 14I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.…Psalms 139 No one without sin will be excluded from the kingdom to come, be they excluded from temptations in the womb or born again and washed in the blood of the Lamb. IMHO God is Love!~Jesus saves! If in heaven we are as the angels, whose womb will harbor all those fetuses? The Bible defines the soul by its breath. Pre-birth fetuses will not be saved. Neither will they be in hell. They are yet soulless, having as yet not received the "breath of life." Quote
Green Cochoa Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Sperm and eggs are also "alive." But they do not breathe, and they are not persons possessed of a soul. The Catholic teaching makes them sacred, as if they were persons, and forbids any and all forms of contraceptions--because these "souls" were meant to be conceived and born. The Bible makes no such comment. Mrs. White expressly tells parents to control their family size. There is nothing sacred about the "egg," or the "seed," and there is no reason to bring into this world an innumerable company for whom one cannot properly provide. So where is the line drawn? Does a zygote have a soul? a blastocyst? These forms do not even have any neurons as yet, much less a heart, a stomach, or any other organs or limbs. The Bible's own distinction is made at birth. Sons of the Israelites, and Jesus followed in this as well, were circumcised at the age of eight days. Now, if they had been "persons" before birth, why was not their age advancing even in the womb? Perhaps, instead of eight days, they should have been circumcised on the 278th day (assuming they were born on the 270th day following conception). But, no, they were considered but eight days old when they were circumcised. Even modern cultures generally regard one's age as being from birth, not from any time before birth. Regarding "life," it goes all the way back to Adam in a single continuum of life. If any part of the "tree" had died between my own existence and that of Adam, I would not be here. The point in time in which my own existence became my own was my birth--when I began to breathe on my own and that umbilical cord connecting me to my mother was cut. That is a person's defining moment. Prior to that, a person is just an extension of the mother's life. An interesting case might be made for the situation of Noah. He had three sons with him in the ark, and all four men had their wives. For nearly a year in the ark, they had nothing more to do than to care for the animals and themselves. What might they have done with their leisure time? I imagine they had a bit of quality time for their wives, time which would be productive of children. The Bible said: The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram. (Genesis 10:22) Shem, the progenitor of Christ, is listed as having had five sons. Arphaxad appears to be the middle son. If this is truly the case, then Shem's wife was pregnant while on the ark. How would we know? Look at the following verse. The Bible said: These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: (Genesis 11:10) Arphaxad, being the one to continue in the line of Christ, is the one for whom the years are mentioned. He is born two years after the flood. If two of his brothers were older than he (not a unique situation to have a younger one be the "birthright" son, seeing as Shem also was younger than Japheth), that would mean Shem's wife had had a baby in each of the two preceding years as well. Nor would this be especially unique, for Noah himself had had three sons in as many years, which I can mathematically prove from the Bible itself but won't take up extra space in this post to do. Why would it be interesting to see if there were pregnancies in the ark? Look at Peter's words. The Bible said: Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. (1 Peter 3:20) There were but eight souls that were saved in the flood. I'll admit that the consideration of Arphaxad being the third son is an assumption that I cannot prove. But the order of mention does imply this, as the order is generally given by birth order in the Bible. If you believe that one has a soul while in the womb, you must also admit to making certain assumptions, including that none of Noah's daughters-in-law could have become pregnant while on the ark. You seem sensible on the issue. I am not pro-abortion. I am anti-legislation on the matter. If abortions become illegal, what will we do to investigate every "crime scene" miscarriage? Furthermore, what about women in the <1% of cases whose lives may be threatened….just let those die since they are such a small minority? Because the Bible does not teach that abortion is murder, I feel no need to legislate my personal conscience on the matter for all. The Bible, in fact, leaves the matter quite ambiguous, with far more positive to say toward abortion than negative. "Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." I have nothing against folks having a strong opinion. I am simply against their opinions becoming laws. Such laws remove freedom of choice in a domain that is unclear and should be left to individual judgment/conscience. Mrs. White has told us, albeit on a different topic, that we need not err, but if we err it should be on the side of the people. In other words, let people have some freedom of choice for themselves. 8thdaypriest, Gregory Matthews, Bravus and 2 others 5 Quote
