If it is saying that God is satirical/sarcastic about His own creation I find it offensive. That God has a sense of humor is displayed in something like the platypus that is for sure, but I do not see God as the type of being who will ridicule and mock that which He Himself has made. No one who loves what they have created would be that way. It would be like a human parent who brings a child into the world only to mock and ridicule it for how it looks. That is someone who would need the board of education applied to them upside their head. Quote

Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted February 18, 2017 Members Posted February 18, 2017 oh c'mon now. The duck-billed platypus was one of God's ways of having fun with His creation. When explorers first saw it, they thought the platypus to be one of the most ridiculous, yet awesome quirks of nature. In a way, it *can* be thought of as a satirical creation, because it shows how something that looks ridiculous is actually an endearing creature. That's one of the things that satire does: it takes a favored view, either positive or negative, and shows how silly that original view could be. It doesn't mean the *object* of the satire is silly — just the notions that *we* tend to project onto the object might be silly or illogical. I do think God created some of the creatures He did as object lessons for us, or in other words, to teach us about ourselves. I hardly see that as Him creating something just to mock it. What you are talking about is something completely different than I am on this. You are saying that the fact that a platypus exists might be used by us for satirizing ourselves. That is in a completely different category than God deliberately creating something just so it could be mocked and ridiculed. Outta Here 1 Quote

B/W Photodude Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 There is such a variety of animal life on this earth and much of it "strange." I really don't see any animal as standing out to me as an evidence of God's "humor." I have never really thought of any animal being created to have "fun" with. God seems to enjoy creating a many kinds of life that just amazes me when I stop to contemplate all of his creation. aka Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Here's a barely-Adventist weighing in... Do keep up this discussion. Those giving testimony to rejecting satire being used against SDA doctrines, rituals and other related issues are walking the path of righteousness. Personally, I will find it a relaxing moment when the topic thread in Humor Section be taken down so we who are of like mind against that thread will be relieved and giving a sigh of relief. Outta Here Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I greatly suspect the subsection for Barely Adventist in the Humor section will ever be removed. The current fake-news from the Barely Adventist website addresses the racism video at Andrews. The fake-news satire is in extremely poor taste. It's a wonder that more people do not leave the Adventist faith when this sort of thing (mockery of a deep-felt plea against racism) is allowed to continue. Gary K 1 Quote
aka Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 That's a right slant when sizing up the quintessence of B.Adventist reporting. Fake-news. The Adventist reader becomes over time of reading B.A. reporting desensitized to what truth really is in God's eyes. Quote

bonnie Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Maybe the dislike of "Barely Adventist" is because the same mockery is used disguised as humor that some here use to show the absurdity and contempt for those that take some issues more seriously than they do. Sometimes followed by a "Oh my,did I offend someone, wasn't my intent" In fact the offense was intentional but to say "Oh I was just kidding" places it back on the one objecting for not having a sense of humor or being shallow and superficial Outta Here 1 Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Although this isn't a parable; it's a revelation from the Lord. Sounds pretty sarcastic to me. I don't think I've seen a Barely Adventist article that intentionally "poked fun at the expense of people who were genuinely hurting." Sorry for the need to inform, but life isn't fair. People *will* hurt you. Neither the church nor Christians are perfect. Hurt and insults are just going to happen. Intentionally hurting people, of course, is wrong. But much of the "hurt" that is perceived is not done intentionally by others. We live inside of ourselves. We talk to ourselves. Most of what we perceive is filtered though our own subjective experiences, thoughts and self-talk, as well as what we've unconsciously *pre-determined* might be the nature of an expected or perceived insult. We really *do* need to take some responsibility for our own hurt feelings, and not automatically assume that the Christian Insult Mafia is hiding under every rock, around every corner, in every story we don't like, and in every post with which we don't agree on a forum.
