Okay, so looks like most of you are holding up the Barely Adventist articles as sins against God and man...  What do you advocate doing to the creator of Barely Adventist?

Would tar and feathers be enough?  Perhaps several days of public humiliation in the stocks?  How about public whipping?  A bit of dunking, perhaps?  Make the author wear a big embroidered "S" for "sinner" on his chest for the rest of his days?  How about shunning him until he recants of the sin you are condemning him of?

All the above could be done with the saints standing around holding their Bibles, loudly thanking God... that they are better than he...

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

I don't personally advocate the "doing of anything" to the creator of Barely Adventist. But I will try to make sure that I spend more time dwelling on those things found in Phillipians 4:8.

What! After all the hue and cry....we are going to sit by and do nothing? Surely our duty calls us to do more. I am sure we could find some good texts or EGW quotes on how we are to chastise and correct this person! How can we sit idly by and do nothing.

This is the same type of mocking disrespect very thinly disguised as humor that seems to have prompted this thread. Aubrey nor anyone else has said anything that would cause a post as you just made. It does show the mocking disrespect you have for those that don't see issues the same as you do

I vote for a reinstatement of the Inquisition - maybe headed up by Shepard's Rod this time.  Round up everyone who has even read Barely Adventist.  Make an example out of them - and while we're at it, let's get everyone who uses satire or sarcasm.  Persecute it as a hate crime!  Lock them up in a room with nothing but a full set of "Testimonies"!

Hi rudywoofs,

I have a suggestion as to what I would like to see happen here.  Whoever it is that writes Barely Adventist I leave in God's hands.  He will either change the person's heart or put a stop to Barely Adventist.  One way or another He will take care of it.  Before I say what I would like to see happen here I have a few things to say to put context to my suggestions.

It seems that I am seen as an enemy of the adminstration of this site.  Why I do not know.  I just want you to know that the hostility is not returned.  I have no wish for there to be animosity between me and thee.  Do you realize that when you use "saint" as a pejorative that you are also speaking of yourself?  You too are a saint according the Bible.  All church members are.  Look up how the Bible uses the word.

I love the Seventh-day Adventist church.  I am a member because I have studied its doctrines and found them to be Biblical.  I have found no other church whose doctrines are all Biblical.  I have no other place to go than the SDA church.  No other church has the same understanding of the Bible that I do.  And Ellen White?  Outside of the Bible I have never seen the love of God portrayed in a more striking manner than how she portrays it.  It is her Conflict of the Ages series that is responsible for me being a Christian today.  I started with Patriarchs and Prophets and by the time I finished The Desire of Ages I knew two things without a doubt.  One: I needed a Saviour badly.  Two: God loved me with a greater love than I had ever understood to be possible.  Because of these things I find it offensive to see the church and Ellen White spoken of sneeringly for when they are spoken of that way I see the reproach as falling on God Himself.  Why?  Because Ellen White tells us that the church, as enfeebled and defective as it may be, is the one object on earth on which  God bestows His supreme regard. We are also told that when God's servants, His church, are held before a bar, and in this instance I am speaking of the bar of public opinion, that every reproach, every mocking, sneering, ridiculing comment made falls upon Christ too because He stands with His church.  Thus when His church is mocked, Jesus sees Himself as being mocked too.  That makes mocking His church an extemely serious thing for us to do.

You told me, not very long ago, that Club Adventist was created as a way to share SDA beliefs.  I have to say that mocking and ridiculing SDA beliefs and leadership is a very odd way of sharing our beliefs.  I do not see it as "sharing" our beliefs with the world at all.  That, to me, and I think the vast majority of people, makes Barely Adventist outside the stated scope of what Club Adventist was to be all about for I know of no one who thinks mockery and ridicule are a positive commentary on the object they are being used against. So, I would like to see the association between Barely Adventist and Club Adventist terminated.  Stop promulgating the denigration of the church, its leadership, and its doctrines, and go back to actually fulfilling the stated goal of this site.

Bonnie, don't you have at least one ticklish spot!

Depends on who is doing the tickling.  Done by those that generally show respect to others for a difference in opinion I enjoy. Those that use "tickling" to mock and make absurd statements to show their disdain of others NOPE. To some mocking contempt is humor. Some see it for what it is and believe that is the disdain they hold for others.

What is humorous about the absurd "satire" about the GC and cleaning inspectors? Why would those that do prepare for the sabbath come to mind when looking for something humorous to post?  Maybe  you didn't or don't. I really don't care, nor would I find it necessary to use use the same contempt towards you for doing differently than I and call it humor.

We had sabbath clothes laid out fri afternoon, early baths etc.  Didn't have anything to do with the absurdity of Barely Adventist and to me it comes across as those that don't want to make something shallow and superficial by those who do. We had 8-10 kids under 10 most of the time. Unless we wanted sabbath morning to turn into a circus and end up being in time for the benediction routine was necessary. Others I know that kept to a routine for sabbath did so because they didn't like the rush and last minute eruptions that occur during other times. One young mother  decided to plan a sabbath routine did so after realizing after a hectic sabbath  morning with her family she ended up in church with two different shoes instead of a pair.

Certainly more offensive "satires" have been posted but can you explain why anyone would want to "tickle" someone in a manner that hasn't anything to do with humor but mocking others by those that treat sabbath morning as any other day?

Why not have a Barely Catholic,Barely Muslim or Barely Mormon humor section. If SDA's don't mind and in fact think it funny why shouldn't we think the same concerning others.

Those that don't like it and disagree as to it being humorous are subject to the true christians doubling down if anything is said. Yet how many times have those of you that think absurd mockery is really humor blasted anyone that in your opinion is disparaging another religion?

Actually, The Catholic Church has its own satire page....  It's called "Eye of the Tiber"... http://www.eyeofthetiber.com/

Lutherans have their own satire page, too... http://lutheransatire.org/

other denominations have satire sites, as well...

I am well aware other churches do the same. That isn't what I asked.

For those that think it just good fun would they post the same concerning Catholics or others.   You could have a field day with the large families Catholics used to have or Holy Water etc. Think of the fun with Muslims and 72 virgins. If that was posted and a catholic or muslim objected to the disrespect would you tell them they have to get a sense of humor, learn to laugh at themselves, quit being so thin skinned. After all it is good clean fun.

Would you then double down with the absurd disrespect for their actual beliefs?

Maybe to some posts like the following does not reflect the true feelings of contempt  of the one posting for beliefs of others. When similar absurdity is posted on a regular basis in topics totally unrelated to humor by same individuals the claim of "I was only kidding" rings hollow

Barely Adventist hasn't posted anything about other religions, that I know of...  As with other satirical websites of various denominations, the topical content is designed for specific audiences.

In our Humor section, pk posts Jewish jokes that are satire.  For instance:

Quote

Little Moishie Applebaum swallowed a coin and it got stuck in his throat, so his mother ran out in the street yelling for help. A man passing by took Moishie by his shoulders and hit him with a few strong strokes on the back, and he coughed the coin out.

"I don't know how to thank you, doctor," Mrs. Applebaum said.

"I'm not a doctor," the man replied. "I'm from the tuition committee."

I think the above is funny.  But according to some here, poking fun at the Jewish reputation regarding money would be terribly insensitive.

I really don't think some here understand the nature and intent of satire..

Kinda sad.

It really is about the nature and intent of some of the postings. I have recently read more of Barely Adventist than I ever will again. I do wonder who the person responsible for what is considered funny. I don't wonder about the same tone and mocking disrespect from the same posters over and over when every opportunity is taken to use this so called humor, To  promote the idea that those that don't share their same belief in certain issues are not true christians but some shallow superficial brand of SDA. It doesn't matter what the topic you will find the numerous so called humorous responses when totally on called for. Deliberately distorting what the poster said and their obvious intent. All on the order of Barely Adventist. Compare their so called "humorous" responses to other posts of theirs and you won't find the mocking contempt any different.

The post by pk can in no way be compared to the contempt shown by others.  You do not find him in topic after topic jumping at the chance to knock and demean the Jewish people.

It would be really hard to deny the true feelings of some posters. What they want to pass off as humor is the same as the feelings shown where humor isn't claimed.

I don't recall ever seeing the same contempt and mocking humor towards those with a more liberal view on abortion, homosexuality, dress, sabbath etc. Why not?

Just look at some of the recent threads. I, and others state a different viewpoint towards dress and pretty quickly the mocking and the absurd begins. WHY? The idea had to be promoted of the shallow superficial christian. It is an insult to claim some of those posts were simply satire and not meant to discredit those narrow minded bigots. This happens regularly.

This post of yours I simpy don't understand...

Was the purpose supposed to be humorous? Or was it meant to indicate disrespect for those that do not see Barely Adventist in the same light you do?  Or to promote the idea that those that don't share your view are this narrow minded and hateful? Where do you find any statement by anyone that would cause this absurd statement?

Disagreement between two parties does not always indicate a lack of understanding by either. Yes,I understand satire, I also understand the abuse of it. It may seem like a contest to you when someone disagrees with you,but it is nothing more than not seeing an issue the same way.

This topic thread is a sad deja vu of an ongoing conflict which existed for some time long ago on ClubA.

The contest fighting between the Pro-Mrs Gray camp and the Anti-Mrs Gray camp.

It turns out that a rookie student lawyer was using his weak author skills to past his intent to manipulate the ClubA SDA sheeple and mock them by satirical talk through this Advatar. All was deception and manipulation of many who actually believed Mrs Gray was a real lady of the senior kind.

Finally the truth came to the surface as to what was going on.

The Administrators of this website are Mr S.Jensen, Mr T.Wetmore and Ms Gail ...

They have been in office here 17 years. We all are assuming they are united in goals and outlook on morals governing not only the members behavior when posting, but general moral practices of the SDA traditions represented (hopefully) in purity by this website.

I pray that the next time the three of them have a pow-wow about this disruptive deceitful B.A. matter, they will come to the conclusion it would be an act of wisdom exercised by completely removing all visual evidence of BarelyAdventist from the Humor Sector.

Has everyone forgotten that you have to actually 'click' on the  links to view the site? You are not being forced, but, you wish to force others over to your way of thinking. What happens when a handful or less, comes along and decides that you and others should be banned for what they think is justifiable reasons? And then another group comes along and does the same to them. Soon there is no one left, only the self righteous! Are you willing to let others to decide for you what is 'moraly pure', and abide by their definitions or interpretations of the Bible?

By the way, did anyone notice how many SDA schools advertise on the site? Best not attend any of those either, guilt by association, you know!

Maybe this whole thread is just satire and no one is reallly upset..what do you think!!!
