JoeMo Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I'm gonna stick to my guns and continue reading Barely Adventist and exercise my right to laugh at some of the peculiar stuff about my faith. I resemble some of the satires in BA; and I'm glad someone besides me finds it humorous. Anyone who disagrees with my attempt at unifying this place in favor of Barely Adventist should be promptly banned from this site. CoAspen 1 Quote

We all are assuming they are united in goals and outlook on morals governing not only the members behavior when posting, but general moral practices of the SDA traditions represented (hopefully) in purity by this website. I pray that the next time the three of them have a pow-wow about this disruptive deceitful B.A. matter, they will come to the conclusion it would be an act of wisdom exercised by completely removing all visual evidence of BarelyAdventist from the Humor Sector.... I really hate to say this, but it is the above type of rigidness that kept my Dad out of the SDA church for years and years and years. His view of Adventists was that they were humorless, totally fixated on *their* views of right and wrong to the point of judging others, and self-righteous bigots who had no clue about the real world and how to relate to people. It took a long time, and interaction with some great people, before Dad changed his mind about Adventists. (I'm sure there are some here on C/A who will find it necessary to write something derisive about my Dad's views of Adventists. Go ahead. You can't hurt him now... ) JoeMo and CoAspen 2 Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I don't make a practise of reading Barely Adventist after the first couple of times but it was enough to recognize the same "derisive" intent used against others on the forum. Others have their own personal reasons for disliking it,I don't like it primarily because it does not stay there. State an opinion on certain topics or a belief that others don't share and the usual posters are quick to use the same brand of satire to make Adventists humorless, totally fixated on *their* views of right and wrong to the point of judging others, and self-righteous bigots who had no clue about the real world and how to relate to people. Gary K and aka 2 Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman

The more we focus on people, the less we see of Jesus. The less we see of Jesus, the greater the power the devil has over us. When we become so focused on what we think others are doing that our perceptions override what they actually say, well, it is a sad day. Quote

Gary K Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 I have a little something from one who is arguably the "greatest" satirist of all time. Quote "Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own"-- Jonathon Swift's satire was mostly written to mock human nature. So, in the context of that, what I quoted above says those who so eagerly devour satire do not realize that the faces they are seeing in the mirror which they think are the faces of others is actually the reflection of their own. I know that is what I discovered. My satirist "humor" was actually the reflection of who I was at the time. It showed me my own cruelty and meanness. My own anger. My own angst and dislike of other people of whom I had no valid reason whatsoever to dislike. Green Cochoa 1 Quote

I sometimes view other people's satire directed at me as a good-humored way of reproof; and I usually take no offense. When their satire is a true representation on how ridiculous I am being, I usually accept it graciously (but not always). When I am satirical or sarcastic to others (i.e., "teasing" them), I usually try to do so in a good-humored way with a smile on my face so they know I'm just teasing them rather than ridiculing them. Hopefully, everyone knows this comment was purely satirical and know one was offended. If you were offended, please advise me and I'll call you a WAAAmbulance - maybe send you some cheese to go with your whine. CoAspen, rudywoofs (Pam) and phkrause 3 Quote
