CyberGuy Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 It is still hot here in Southern California. 100 degrees plus every day. Past few days have been 105 plus. Stays close to 80 until 11 pm or so. Cools down to 72 degrees by dawn. It it were not for a good A/C system which I replaced three years ago this would be unbearable. Only exercise I get is before 8 am and after 830pm. Dr. Shane Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Well we have been in the upper 90s F (36º - 37º C) all week and may have hit 100º F a couple times in the afternoons. Well our A/C went out last Sunday. It took me until Thursday to get a tech out to our house. He issued the death certificate for our 21 year-old unit. So I purchased a new one and he came back on Friday to hook it up. I have made enough modifications to our house that keep it in the shade and increase ventilationn so the tempentures didn't get that bad inside the house. However we live close enough to the sea that the humidity is terribly high and we needed some relief from that it not from the heat. I was about ready to go buy a dehumdifier. High 90's is more than we are used to!! At least we don't have the humidity to go with it, but it is still mighty uncomfortable. The one comfort.....flowers sure are looking good!! Neil D Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 FYI, have been in Cairns the last 2 days...Hot is an accurate discription....More to post at a later date...Got some terrific pictures....and the tropical rainforest both under the water [aka "the great barrior reef"]and above it are terrific here in Cairns.... And I am NOT looking forward to the heat in San Francisco and the Sacremento Valley.....nor the flight back...a 15 hour bugger at least....yuck! Halfstep Denise Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 It's 97 degrees on our porch (1:55 p.m.) and may get up to 105. The sun gets our side of the building in the afternoon. Weather Bug says it is already 105, but that reading comes from a couple of miles from here, close to my in-laws home and they don't have air conditioning! They've been invited to come and enjoy the cooler air, but I'm sure there are more interesting places to get cool! I'm trying to keep the air conditioning off for as long as possible! Got a couple of fans going though! Our weatherman calls the temperatures predicted for the weekend as "screaming hot"! It just got up to 90 here in Tacoma at 2:30 in the afternoon, and that doesn't happen here very often! It's suuposed to get mid 90's this week-end. Ugh. No air conditioning in my house, but it's not too bad. We have a pretty good cross-breeze going through the house. The next week looks like triple digits (105-111). My poor begonias. I remember a week in the one-hundred-teens awhile back, and even a 122 (actual, not "feels like") while traveling through Needles, CA in a non-A/C car. The temperature was 119 degress in the shade.It was the first time that I had seen the lawn sprinklers shoot the water into the air and have it instantly evaporate. We are a wet/cooler people not a hot/dry people. The only ones who really enjoy this have moved here from somewhere else. The natives are in hiding. CyberGuy Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I was told that in the days before AC 60 years ago that people in Imperial valley by the mexican border would put the inner sheets though cold water and wring it out and then put that over them with a fan blowing on the wet sheets.
