Still hot here and today the humidity went skyrocketing. Everytime I try to get some work done around the apt I am drenched in sweat. And I'm still feeling sick. I HATE hot humid weather.

Someone mentioned Redding California, my old stomping grounds....

Yesterday, as we left SF for Oregon, we stopped in Redding to get gas...Our car has an outside temperature gage on it... As we drove off the I-5 off ramp, I noticed that it was 113 F. and as we stopped to get gas in the shade, the temp was 111 F. I remember the heat like that....a wall of oven like heat.

Went over the I-5 overpass, and the temp never dropped below 95 degrees. Not a good thing...

It's hot even here in southern Oregon...temp is 105.

Not good...

Riverside California

Saturday was 112 degrees and at 11 pm it was still 95 degrees. At 630 am it was still 82 degrees.

I do my morning walk at 6am every morning. I come back drenched in sweat and I am not exerting myself excessively. Just a brisk walk for three miles every morning. Cannot do that at night as it is in the 90's until late at night.

Sunday it was better due to a partial cloud cover but the humidity still made it 86 degrees at the time of this post. I usually open up the house to cool it off and save on the AC bill. Not for the last several days was this possible. AC will be running all night tonight like last night. I am thankful I had the forsight to buy a new AC system five years ago. It is more than able of keep the house at 78 degrees no matter how hot it is so far.

Now I need those double windows I see being installed in a lot of houses around. It would keep the house even cooler longer without AC.

Anyone for cool showers instead of hot ones these days?

Well, Neil, it looks like you drove within 1500 feet of my house. I bet you didn't even wave.

It was VERY hot in the Sac area yesterday, and it didn't cool off enough last night. Now I am in Portland for a few days, and my daughter is in an apt. with no AC. She is dying of heat, and I am basking in the coolth. It feels comfy to me!

We went a week without A/C last month but we got a new unit and it is working great now. Walking into the house is like walking into a refrigerator.

If you get too hot, take a cold shower - or lukewarm if there is no cold water.

Today in the deep Idaho river gorge that I call home, my digital thermometer read 108.9! It was over 80 this morning when my husband and I went for our walk and once the sun peeked over the mountain across the river, the temps did nothing but climb until the sun dipped below the mountain above my house later in the afternoon.

Happily, unlike G4J, we didn't have to work outside. Stay hydrated out there, it's sizzlin' summer!

In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,

which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,

and like a strong man runs its course with joy.

Its rising is from the end of the heavens

and its circuit to the end of them;

and nothing is hid from its heat. Psalm 19

Lord, lay some soul upon my heart and love that soul through me; that I may humbly do my part to win that soul for Thee.

It's 106 degrees on our apartment porch in Walnut Creek, California and it's 5 p.m.

My husband likes it cool, and he got cool yesterday when he had to take me to the emergency room for a few hours! We came in from 105 degrees to a room that was 70 degrees! I immediately said it was cold and the nurse got me a blanket!

Anyway, we have a few more days of this heat predicted. Yikes!

This heat wave appears to be over. It is only going to be about 85 degrees today. A typical summer day. Not the 105 plus. I could live with this type of day.

How is it your way people. Heat wave over in your area as well.

If these heat waves keep happening year after year, there may be quite a number of poor, hungry, displaced people who once earned their living off the land.

Here in California, irrigation is essential due to the rain-free summers.

The new heading is appropriate for here "down under"...in Melbourne now it's the coldest part of winter, when I have to hose the ice off the car every morning before I can drive to work...and when I go outside to water the plants on the back porch, the bucket of water is frozen...and two-thirds of the patients coming to the clinic have chest or throat or ear infections...

But the wattle trees (Acacia sp.) are in bloom, so that means spring can't be too far away...
