Monday was another deadly day in Gaza. At least 41 people were killed and 75 others injured when an Israeli airstrike hit a seaside cafe in Gaza City. The Al-Baqa cafe was a popular spot for students, journalists and remote workers to hang out because it offered views of the Mediterranean coast and internet access. Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the director of Al-Shifa hospital, said most of the casualties were women and children. Journalists on the scene said freelance journalist Ismail Abu Hatab was also among the dead. The Israel Defense Forces told CNN that the incident was “under review.”

According to the Al-Awda Hospital, the attack killed six children and four others at a water distribution point. The Israeli military acknowledged that an airstrike targeting an “Islamic Jihad terrorist” had gone wrong, and that the “munition fell dozens of meters from the target.” The incident is under review. Also on Sunday, 12 people were killed and dozens injured when an Israeli airstrike targeted a crowded junction in central Gaza, according to the Director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex. Why this matters: United Torah Judaism’s two factions said they were leaving the government over disagreements surrounding a bill that would codify broad military draft exemptions for their constituents, many of whom study Jewish texts instead of enlisting to the military. The issue has long divided Jewish Israelis, most of whom are required to enlist.   The departure of a party that has long served as a kingmaker in Israeli politics doesn’t immediately threaten Netanyahu’s rule. But once it comes into effect within 48 hours, it will leave the Israeli leader with a slim majority in a government that could now more heavily rely on the whims of two far-right parties. Those parties oppose concessions in ceasefire negotiations with Hamas and have themselves quit or threatened to quit the government over moves to end or even pause the war in Gaza.
