Is there lard in the beans?

I've recently retired and moved into a luxurious retirement community, where our meals are served in a fine dining room from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. I'm the only Adventist living here; and I'm the only vegetarian. When other residents ask me about my dietary habits, and why I make those particular choices, I explain that my food choices are based on the Biblical rules: all plant-based, plus eggs and cheese, but omitting any scavenger meat or shellfish. [I myself don't care for any meat at all, but if I'm pressed, I explain that I have at times eaten beef and chicken, which are not prohibited by the Bible.] The waiters have come to be familiar with my choices, and sometimes they've intercepted something which I had ordered without knowing [the salad dressing had bacon chips, for instance, in it.] BTW, if anybody from Adventistan wants to come for a visit, just send me a letter here. I can entertain people for meals whenever I plan ahead. And the town is a lovely town for sightseeing.

  5. Some Religious leaders Tend to keep quiet when the Poor and most Volunarable people are being oppressed I don't think this is true. I remember the Founders of the SDA Church decided to break Civil laws during the times of Slavery and they protected slaves. Do we still have people that can do the same today?

What meal did you eat as a kid that...

Hominy, Turnips, Rutabagas, and Parsnips! They have never settled well with me, and they still don't. And though I used to eat meat as a child and a teen growing up, I don't eat it now.

Liver & onions were anathema. Eating liver is like eating an oil filter. Hominy didn't get real high marks either.

Christ’s Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary # 24

Regardless of which death Christ died, what day He died on, and where He went (if anywhere) during His rest in the tomb, the important parts of the story remain the same - Christ lived, He was brutally executed, He was buried, and now He lives again. His resurrection is one of the salvational and foundational doctrines of Christianity, as indicated in 1 Corinthians 15 (one of the earliest known manuscripts of the NT): " For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas [Peter], and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born." (1 Cor: 15:3-8). "But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith." (1 Cor. 15: 12-14) Christ's resurrection - more than anything else He did - proved that He was indeed God. Paul challenges the Corinthians to talk to some of those who had witnessed the risen Christ - a fact many of these witnesses died for rather than recant. Not even in Jewish literature from that period do the Jews even deny the empty tomb.

That and headcheese. While my folks did not (thankfully) use brains to make it, I still remember that gel.

Yes, meat grinder. We had one, too. My dad used to hunt and they used that thing to make mooseburger. What I have never eaten since I grew up is wor wonton soup. Dad used to have a Chinese salesman who knew the best Chinese restaurants in downtown Vancouver and he used to order wor wonton soup. I could never eat those rubbery octopus legs well enough.

Any kind of meat. When I was a little kit and sat around the dinning table, my sister asked me "do you know how this meat is made"? pointing to the beef dish. I said I did not know. She said they cut opened the cow's head to make it. Ever since then I never touched the meat.

I haven't eaten liver since I was a child. Nor have I drunk any cow milk straight (i.e. not with coffee, tea or coffee substitutes).

    The Passover Lamb

Liz: There are slight differences in the various translations of this passage. Therefore, in part one's understanding of it may depend upon the traslaton that one is reading. I do not think that these verses tell us that there were two times when people rose form the dead--upon the death of Christ and upon his resurrection. But, I can understand how some might think that this was so. Rather I will suggest: 1) At the death of Christ, there was a great earthquake. At that time a number of graves were opened to view by the public at large. 2) At the resurrection of Christ, a number of dead people in those recently opened graves were also raised to life along with Christ. Again, I can understand how one might differ with me. I can not state that I can prove my thinking. I can not. But, I suggest it as a possible understanding of the passage. Certainly on that Friday, shortly before the Sabbath, the opening of those graves would attract attention. But people must wait until the Sabbath was over before doing the work to close them again. But, as of Sunday morning, the graves were empty and they had been resurrected. I can well imagine that this word got out and about.

    The Passover Lamb

I've wondered the same thing not just with Lazarus, but with everyone He resurrected and healed. Because when He healed them, they would have been perfect in body at that moment, so did they live longer than the average person?

    The Passover Lamb

I can read it either way. Not that it's a big deal. If it's one, the other, or both. I think the point is, many saints were resurrected. Do you think they went to heaven with Jesus, or lived to die another day? I've often thought about the same question with Lazarus.

    The Passover Lamb

I guess my question is, whose lamb are we talking about?? Because obviously every family celebrating Pesach would've had a lamb?? And also the Pesach Lamb would've been on the table and being ready to eat!! Seems to me like this is what's called a "faire tale" no doubt!!

    The Passover Lamb

I think the lamb story may come from the song, "Watch the Lamb." Lyrics: WATCH THE LAMB By Ray Boltz In Mark 15:21 it is recorded that a man from Cyrene, named Simon, who was passing by on his way from the country, was forced to carry the cross of Jesus. So this song is written as He might have viewed the crucifixion of Jesus. Walking on the road to Jerusalem. The time had come to sacrifice again. My two small sons they walked beside me on the road. The reason that they came was to watch the lamb Daddy, daddy, what will we see there There's so much we don't understand So I told them of Moses and Father Abraham And then I said dear children watch the lamb. When we reached the city I knew something must be wrong There were no joyful worshippers no joyful worship songs. I stood there with my children in the midst of angry men. And then I heard the crowd cry out crucify Him. I watched Him as He struggled I watched Him as He fell. The cross came down upon His back, the crowd began to yell. In that moment I felt such agony, in that moment I felt such loss. Until a Roman soldier grabbed my arm and screamed "You carry His cross. At first I tried to resist him, then his hand reached his sword. And so I knelt and took the cross from the Lord. I placed it on my shoulder and started down the street. The blood that He'd been shedding was running down my cheek. They led us to Golgotha they drove nails deep in His feet and hands. And yet upon the cross I heard Him pray, "Father, forgive them." Oh never have I seen such love in any other eyes. "Into thy hands I commit My spirit." He prayed and then He died. I stood for what seemed like years I'd lost all sense of time. Until I felt two tiny hands holding tight to mine. My children stood there weeping I heard the oldest say. "Father, please forgive us the lamb ran away. Daddy, daddy what have we seen here. There is so much we don't understand. so I took them in my arms. We turned and faced the cross, and I said, "Dear children, Watch the Lamb."
