there buster Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Jesus' brothers were not among the 12. And Jacob is the Hebrew form of James or James is the Latin/Greek form of Jacob. In a Greek New Testament, the epistle of James is "Iakobou (Jacob)" Quote “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell

What version are you using? I've never seen a version that didn't specify 7 of each clean, the male and its mate, and 2 of each unclean, the male and its mate. Some versions have a footnote to clarify that it means pairs. The two versions I'm using at my desk right now are NIV and NKJV. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted June 22, 2009 Author Administrators Posted June 22, 2009 Interesting! :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted June 22, 2009 Members Posted June 22, 2009 My NIV specifies "a male and its mate" - that was my error for not stating it in the answer. Administrators Gail Posted June 22, 2009 Author Administrators Posted June 22, 2009 I just had a buzz through several versions and the decision is split between both translations. Some have "by sevens" in a footnote and some have "or seven pairs" as a footnote. The Young literal translation, which John317 likes, has it seven pairs. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted June 22, 2009 Author Administrators Posted June 22, 2009 We can keep this discussion going if you wish, but here is a reminder of the question which is currently on the table: Who was famous for making a detailed organization of temple personnel? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted June 22, 2009 Author Administrators Posted June 22, 2009 I think it was Peter who guessed David, and he was correct! The reference for that was 1 Chronicles 23-24. Who supplied the materials to build the tabernacle? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted June 23, 2009 Author Administrators Posted June 23, 2009 Exactly! Thanks, carolaa! The people gave freewill offerings to supply the materials. How did God show His presence at the dedication of Solomon's temple? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
