Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted November 27, 2008 Administrators Posted November 27, 2008 ...And while Adventists like preaching, most others can not stomach preaching for more than ONE day... When it comes to radio, most people tune in for music, and they don't like it interrupted with talk, even for 5 minutes. A close look at the Arbitron tracking of radio listeners, people switch to another station once talk lasts longer than 5 minutes and they don't come back that day or longer. (If you go for 15 minute, as John317 suggests, you better get the point out in the first few minutes...) So if you want to get a message to music listeners, you have to put the message in the music. And because people have very specific tastes in music, if it isn't their type of music, they switch stations. So the music style that will reach the most people would be? Yes, there are those who only like talk or news radio, but those people don't like it interrupted with music. Mixed format, variety programing, just doesn't work. Even TV has moved in that direction with Food Network for 24/7 food and cooking, Comedy Central for 24/7 laughs, all news, all the time, History Channel, etc. This accounts for the extremely lackluster "success" of how 3ABN Radio and LifeTalk Radio are trying to reach the masses - mixing too much talk and dull music which has no appeal to the masses. As fccool said if you preach in the woods, will it make a sound that anyone will hear... If they don't tune in and stay long enough to hear the message, what's the point? Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Liz Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Maybe it's a regional thing? Talk radio is real big around here. Or could it be a generational thing? Maybe the over thirty crowd likes talk radio? I really like John317's idea, there something there for everyone. And I agree a 15 minute sermon is just right. uberduber Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Don't you think that satan has a strong influence over people with music? You shouldn't be choosing a church or belief based on whether or not you like the music... Quote
Moderators John317 Posted November 28, 2008 Moderators Posted November 28, 2008 We'd like to hear something about you, uber. We always want to make our new members feel welcome. Care to share anything? Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
BobRyan Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 There was never a time when "God was popular" since just after Noah stepped off the boat. The argument that "God is not as popular as ..." has never been a good reason to switch to jazz. In a survey done across all denominations the test was done to see what group had the most effective outreach to the truly "unchurched". Guess who did well and that study and guess what they use to do it? Yep you guessed it! It is "those Adventists" everyone is so happy to "throw under the bus" See the Book "surprising insights from the unchurched" by Thom Rainer 2001 Zondervan in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Neil D Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 Try a little HipHop Neil. A member of our church performed a little of it at church during our Thanksgiving Meal. I can forward the name if you are interested in a taping. I am not sure that Hiphop would be appropriate on a christian radio station.... Perchance, do you have a whole slue of hiphop artists, Christian ones at that, who are well versed in their art such that they can present Christ and Him crucified and repentance..? Neil D Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 Don't you think that satan has a strong influence over people with music? You shouldn't be choosing a church or belief based on whether or not you like the music... If satan has such a strong influence over people with music, why not over people who wish to debate? You remind me of a recent poster who was recently banned for his inability to follow directions and yet claimed to have a message from God to this board...hence, you could say that he as nearly as God messager.... Nevertheless, John is correct....One who begins to post needs to share various viewpoints before others can share thier wisdom....Tell us of yourself....where are you from, and what makes this post so compelling that you share your belief of satan's dominance over people..
