Woody Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I heard on Fox that Obama may not constitutionally be President yet. Because he fumbled the Oath that is required by the Constitution ... he may not have said the required words in order to be the bonafied President of the United States. It may take action by the Supreme Court to determine if Obama adaquately verbalized the correct Oath. How many of you heard the fumbled words of Obama? The poor guy. He must have felt embarrassed. But we do need to determine if he was adaquately oathed in order to determine if his actions as president are now legal. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Woody Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Yes. They portrayed him as the fumble bumble President. But the question IS ... does the constitution recognize him as such? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Woody Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 I listened carefully to see if Obama was going to be legally the President and from my analysis ... Obama did not correct himself accurately. Listen to it carefully. I have several times. He started to say it correctly but then went with what Roberts said which was incorrect. I think he is not legally our president. But, again ... I am just sharing with you what Fox New reported. I have no axe to grind. Just passin on the info for each of you to figure out. Neil D Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Well, NPR did a bit of analysis on that little flub....They say that Roberts misquoted it origionally, and Obama hesitated, because he knew Roberts misquoted it...Then Roberts corrected himself, and Obama repeated the corrected version... I got no bone to pick here....but to quote someone, "I have no axe to grind. Dr. Shane Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Well, NPR did a bit of analysis on that little flub....They say that Roberts misquoted it origionally, and Obama hesitated, because he knew Roberts misquoted it...Then Roberts corrected himself, and Obama repeated the corrected version... I heard this story twice this morning. Once on Good Morning America (ABC) and once on NPR. NPR reported that Roberts misquoted the oath, Obama hesitated, Roberts corrected himself, and Obama then repeated the it the way Roberts originally messed it up. So the quote was not said correctly. However what I didn't hear any of them mention is that Obama later signed the oath in written form. So how he said the oath is really irrelevant. GMA reported that Roberts later apologized to Obama for messing him up. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Woody Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 The constitution is very specific and indicates what the President Elect needs to say. Therefore ... I think his correct title should be President Elect until he corrects his flub to the correct wording rather than parroting what Roberts erroneously told him to say. When a president no longer can hold office ... just look how they rush to have his replacement say the oath and not just sign some piece of paper. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Neil D Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Gee, I donno....Does the phrase "faithfully execute" mean more than "execute the office of the Presidency faithfully"....Hmmmmm...This sounds like a job for our SDA legal department. And isn't the CHIEF JUSTICE the final say on that? After all, with all the legal mumbo jumbo, HE should know, right? After all that fuss, is it possible that Barack Obama is not actually President of the United States? It's a question being asked by constitutional experts - not to mention Fox News pundits and bloggers - after the man generally considered the finest orator of his generation fluffed his lines while reciting the oath of office on Capitol Hill yesterday. Actually, the blame may well lie with John Roberts, the Chief Justice, whose job it was to guide Mr Obama through the 35-word oath prescribed by the constitution and decided to do it from memory in front of a live crowd of around 2 million people and a further billion or so following via television. Interrupted by Mr Obama right at the start of the oath, Mr Roberts misplaced a single word so that the former Illinois senator vowed to "execute the Office of President of the United States faithfully" instead of, as he was meant to, "execute faithfully the Office of President of the United States". According to Jack Beermann, a constitutional law scholar at Boston University, that single slip might be enough to invalidate Mr Obama's oath and he should take it again to be sure. "It would take him 30 seconds, he can do it in private, it's not a big deal, and he ought to do it just to be safe," Mr Beermann told the San Francisco Chronicle. "It's an open question whether he's president until he takes the proper oath." Other experts disagreed, pointing out that under the 20th Amendment of the Constitution Mr Obama automatically become president at noon on January 20th, a few minutes before he was sworn in. Jeffrey Rosen, a constitutional law expert and professor at George Washington University in Washington, said that stumbling over the oath has "no impact". "News flash: he's President," he said. "Lots of people have flubbed the oath, perhaps most memorably Chief Justice (William Howard) Taft, who sort of riffed and then made up his own" when he was swearing in Herbert Hoover, Professor Rosen said. Where the oath calls on the president to "preserve, protect, and defend" the constitution, Chief Justice Taft said "preserve, maintain and defend" - injecting an entirely new word instead of just mangling up the order. As the San Francisco Chronicle's politics blog noted, however, Mr Obama was one of just 22 senators who voted against confirming Mr Roberts "and now becomes the first president sworn in, or not, by a justice he voted against". What they said: Roberts: Are you prepared to take the oath, Senator? Obama: I am. Roberts: I, Barack Hussein Obama...
