TreeOfLife Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hidden Motives for Good Actions Do Not Make Bad that which is Good and Does Not Undo that which Already Is… Sola Scriptura was an invention of Martin Luther to counter the Catholic church tradition that what the Pope said through the priests was directly from God, and that to go against what they said was to go directly against God. What Martin Luther did was to merely move this infallibility from the person of the Pope and the Church to the Bible as the ultimate infallible authority. Before this happened NO ONE could even conceive that a written document such as the New Testament that was put together by men would be viewed in this way. To believe that men of any strip or earthly authority such as the Catholic priests and bishops at the Council of Nicea and Leodicea could command that one writer over another was now be considered the actual Words of God is to participate in the worst kind of idolatry and/or blashpheme.
