Outta Here Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Dancing. I really think Adventism has it ALL wrong on dancing. Life is to be enjoyed, celebrated: Quote

GreatLakesGramma Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I guess those two really love to dance. I'm sure none of the guests will ever forget that wedding. They certainly made it a real celebration, a joyful occasion. I hope their joy in being with each other will last for a lifetime, and not fall by the wayside, as it does all too often these days. Key Guy Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 While I'm all for celebrating a God-blessed marriage, and I absolutely enjoy watching the Thriller and other surprise dances at wedding receptions shown on YouTube, I am disturbed by this. But, if we Christians condone rock music, the wearing of casual wear (shorts, sneakers and t-shirts) and indiscriminate eating in the sanctuary, then why not throw decorum out completely. We're obviously headed in that direction. I pray that the Adventist church delays this trend, but I suspect I'll see it in my lifetime. Quote
Outta Here Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 I'm just so tired of the judging attitudes of many Adventists. Many people in the Adventist church are such 'broken dogs' that they are afraid of a little real living. Life is to be enjoyed. Why all the pent up happiness? Let it out! Quote
Woody Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 My dog ain't broken. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Shane Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 This is my position on dancing: I think non-contact dancing is acceptable for single people. They should dress in a manner that is not sexually provocative. When I was involved with Campus Crusade for Christ, they had Christian dances and seemed to be appropriate. I have no problem with contact dancing for married individuals. My wife and I go out dancing occasionally. There is another couple at church that has recently invited us to go out dancing with them. We plan to take them up on their invitation. I enjoy attending dance shows like ballet, tap dancing and forklorico. I think this adds culture to our society. I think it is also positive for those involved with it. This is my position on judging: We all make judgment calls. We choose our friends based on judgments. Some of us are able to choose our jobs based on judgment calls. We choose our forms of recreation based on judgment calls. If we don't choose our neighborhood based on a judgment call, we certainly would like to. We choose the church we attend based on a judgment call. Humans are judgmental creatures. I don't see any way of getting away from that. Now Jesus commanded us not to judge others in a way that we ourselves do not want to be judged. "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." He goes on to warn us exactly how we shouldn't judge. "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" Jesus is telling us not to be hypocrites when we judge. This message is clear in verse five, "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye" On another occasion Jesus commanded us to judge righteously. "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." Quote: Many people in the Adventist church are such 'broken dogs' that they are afraid of a little real living. This statement itself is a judgment call. This statement is actually judging the motives of people in the Adventist church. That is not the same as judging behavior. So the person making this judgment call can expect that God will judge them in the same manner that they are judging Adventists. God will look not only at behavior but judge this person by their motives too. "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." Liz Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 GRRRR!! Aubrey, I loved the video, I've seen it a couple of times on different forums. If I had had a wedding, I would've liked it to be like this. Fun. Key Guy Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Hypocrites are people that say one thing and do another. "My rules apply to you, but not to me". You infer that (as a hypocrite), if I am opposed to dancing, I am opposed to YOU dancing, but it would be acceptable for me to dance. I am way more consistent than that, in spite of whatever hypocrisies I may still be harboring. On a side note: Why do we spend time and energy trying to technically sidestep the issue of dancing (as one example)? Dancing and other forms of worldly entertainment has been exposed for what it is in the SOP. Yet, we look for ways to get as close to the issue as we can without stepping over that imaginary line into the realm of sin. As for 'pent up happiness', there are many other ways other than gray areas to express it. Learning the latest 'twist', macarena, two-step, lambada or moonwalk is more of a planned expression. Should I have those steps in my back pocket for the next time I'm needing to release my pent up happiness? Did King David take dancing lessons or attend an OT Studio 54 to learn the latest dance steps to best dance before the Ark? Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted July 26, 2009 Members Posted July 26, 2009 I thought the dancing wedding video looked stupid. That's just my take on it. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Woody Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I agree with you Pam. I think there is great danger also .... in taking marriage SO lightly. Marriage is being erroded all over the world. What we need to do is to make it more serioius .... not ridiculous. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Dr. Shane Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 When we discuss the topic of dancing many people have different ideas of what we are even discussing. 1. Is it OK to dance ballet or tap dance? 2. Is it OK to watch ballet or tap dance? 3. Is it OK to dance at a wedding reception? 4. Is it OK for the church to hold a dance as part of a church social? 5. Is it OK to go out to dance clubs and dance? Dance is quite a broad subject. I certainly don't think it is necessary to dance in order to have fun. Although I enjoy dancing with my wife. We did not dance at our wedding and it was a lot of fun. It was so much fun we still enjoy watching the video. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
