wayfinder Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 His life and death are not the gospel. I already said that if He had not died mine or yours or anybodys seeking, learning and practicing the truth would be fruitless. The gospel of the kingdom can be found all through Christ's teaching. One thing Christ never emphasized was His death. The "Beatitudes" give a good revelation on the gospel of the kingdom. The one that has special meaning for me. Mt 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Remember a few days ago when I told you I had heard a text while I was sleeping. Matthew 25:35 `For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; When I read this text it almost brought tears to my eyes. It did indeed, humble me. To think that God would give me an answer and encourage me, I cannot put into words my feelings. Quote
skyblue888 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 It is not enough to will to overcome. Chapter 7 of Romans has made that for ever clear. Unless by faith we become partakers of Christ's divine nature, God can do nothing toward our recovery. It is God who is to work in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. Phil.2:13. Our part is to lay right hold upon the merits of the sufferings endured to reconcile man to God. Then God receives us unto Himself and loves us as He loves Jesus. This is how faith is counted for righteousness and the pardoned soul may go on from grace to grace and from light to a greater light. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
Guest Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 He didn't have to emphasize it. But that is the gospel, or (good news) the fact that he died for our sins so we don't have to. What is more important than that? Quote
wayfinder Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 skyblue888, Quoting the one in question does nothing to support the challange. Show this teaching from the Law and Prophets or the words of the Son of God as recorded by His eyewitness. Quote
Lutz13 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 One thing Christ never emphasized was His death. Are you sure about that? I can find several times throughout the gospels where He says that He must suffer for the world. That He must be put to death. That He must be lifted up. I would list them all now, but I have to go to work in about 8 minutes. Quote
Guest Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 That is the central fact. without that there is no gospel. Quote
skyblue888 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 We cannot speak of His death without the resurrection. 1 Cor.15: 1-4. We are to trust wholly in the merits of a crucified and risen Saviour that we may be saved by His life. "For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." Rom.5:10. In the book Faith and Works, we read about "the faith that lays right hold upon the merits of the blood of a crucified and risen Saviour to bring Christ's righteousness into the life." pp.65,66. So you see as we come to God trusting wholly in the merits of Christ's shed blood, His righteousness (life) is brought into the life. And "Christ's righteousness accomplishes everything." F.W.27. "Righteousness is love and love is the light and the life of God," and "the life of God in the soul is man's only hope." wayfinder Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 RH, We were already under a death decree, Jesus was executed in our place. Now having removed the death decree we can be obedient to the truth and through our obedience to the will of God we will become righteous and be born again of the Spirit of God and enter through the door into the kingdom of God. We must become righteous in Christ first and then obedience is the natural fruit of the Gospel tree for Christ in us is the Gospel. We become righteous by trusting wholly in the merits of a crucified and risen Saviour. And we must do this daily to continue to receive the blessings of the covenant of grace, pardon and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. wayfinder Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Lutz13, working the night shift, I did that for seven years. I don't argue the fact that Christ said He would die and rise again. I said that Christ never emphasized His death in the context of salvation like Paul does. Paul emphasizes Christ's death as the fundamental element of his salvation theology. The fundamental element of the Son of God's salvation theology is learning and practicing the truth. 1Co 2:2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. Quote

Yes because Christ and Him crucified is also Christ risen from the dead and sitting at the right hand of the Majesty on High presenting His divine merits to the Father in the offering of Himself as our Substitute and Surety. "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." Chapters 3 and 4 of the book of Hebrews make it clear that "unbelief" is "disobedience". If we seek to become righteous by our obedience or by any other means than the merits and righteousness of Christ, we are "disobedient". We must believe that the merits of Christ's shed blood are sufficient to present to the Father in order to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, the gift that cannot be excelled and which brings all the other blessings in its train. Obedience to His will is one of these blesings for it is God who works in us, by the Holy Spirit, both to will and to do His good pleasure. sky *The testimony of God is that He has promised to receive everyone that comes to Him trusting wholly in the MERITS of Christ. Musicman1228 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Just mentioning that He would die to His disciples is not emphasizing His death. He was preparing His disciples for the inevitable, that He must die to pay the penalty for our sins. Wayfarer has said that at least two times. Paul's gospel is a gospel of death; die to self, die with Christ, preaching NOTHING but Christ crucified. Jesus preached and taught life; life in His word, the narrow gate that leads to life, righteousness leading to life, the water/wellspring of life, whoever hears my words passes from death to life, the Son like the Father has life in Himself, eat the food that brings eternal life. I could go on and on. The gospel that Jesus preached is the gospel of the Kingdom (Matt.24:14). That gospel is that you must be in the Kingdom of Heaven to be saved (John 3). His gospel says that you must be sanctified as He sanctified Himself (John 17:17-19). The reason that many Christians do not believe that there is a difference between the gospel of Jesus and the gospel of Paul is that most Christians spend most of their time studying Paul and not Jesus. Try this challenge; take one month and do not spend any time with Paul or EGW, spend it ONLY with the gospel and life of Jesus Christ, and that only in Matthew, Mark and John. Do it every day. Also, you must suspend your current belief system and go into the challenge in as unbiased way as possible.(Do not use Luke because he was a convert of Paul and got most of the information for his gospel from Paul.) After that month of total immersion into Jesus Christ then go back and look at Paul and see if you don't see a difference. If you do then you will know that there is a problem with Paul. If not then you will have confirmed your original belief and you will be none the worse for trying, and you will have come to know Jesus in a different more personal way. Just that will be worth it to you. Quote
