Ron Amnsn Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Who knows one way or the other if the writer of Romans was ever married. He did have some nice things to say about love, but then he blew it when he wrote about not letting women say anything in the worship service. Quote
Moderators Gerr Posted August 18, 2009 Author Moderators Posted August 18, 2009 Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Musicman, are you insinuating Paul carried on with women in his circle? Jesus had women following Him in His ministry too. Does that make Him guilty of wrongdoing? Quote
Guest Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Dr. Rich, the people here are being gentle compared to what you and your friends are attempting to do with the writings of Paul. If you consider it a "nasty habit", then you should stop trying to rub Paul's nose in his writings. So far, the only nose you've dirtied is your own. Amen Quote
Dr. Rich Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I have heard all that BS for so long from people like you that when I read what you wrote it makes me want to vomit! IF you believe that the writer of 1st Tim. was inspired by God, then why is it that you allow women to speak in church? You people are a bunch of wimps! You either obey the instructions given in 1st Tim. or not--period! And IF you find people who you think are blaspheming, then why don't you also do as Paul who "delivered over to Satan so that they may be taught not to blaspheme". (1st Time 1:20) As for me, I find it very hard to understand why Paul ever said such a thing IF he was truely being led by Jesus. Quote

We are no longer in that culture. We also do not have slaves. If Jesus were living today ... he would speak out against slaves because it is the PC thing to do. skyblue888 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I have always wondered about what the Holy Spirit said through the apostle Paul about women keeping silence with all submission. 1 Tim.2:11. I must say that it does make sense to say that it was the culture of the time. But can someone explain why then does the Holy Spirit, instead of saying it is because of "culture" He says, "For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control." 1 Tim.2:11-15. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
Woody Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 That was THEIR excuse back then ... NOW "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." Gal 3:28 Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â
Guest Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 he would speak out against slaves because it is the PC thing to do. Yes he would speak out against slavery, but he never did anything because it was PC. Just the opposite is true. Quote
Woody Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Then can you tell me why He didn't speak out against slavery? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â
Guest Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Deu 5:6 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. He never endorsed slavery, but it was not an issue then. Jesus spoke out against the way the Jews kept the Sabbath, and that was definately not PC. Quote
Woody Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Slavery was not an issue during Jesus's time? Why did he tell them to obey their masters? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â
Moderators John317 Posted August 18, 2009 Moderators Posted August 18, 2009 I think that was Paul. Col. 3: 22. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Is your charge any different than calling a brother "fool"? I believe so, therefore your charge stands under the condemnation that Jesus applied, does it not? Woody Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Yes. Jesus was PC. He was wise. He knew that certain topics would not be received well and would only be misunderstood. It was not the rigtht time. This is why He didn't make an issue of slavery and women. The culture and politics did not make it wise. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won.
