Neil D Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Nan- You are indeed one of the most arguementative people on this board! Why, I think I had heard that you argued with a kukaburra and won! Not! Just hope all this argueing will not reset that sweet disposition that you have... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw

But then I'm not a kook so I wouldn't know. Now I will 'burra' into a hole ... Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Nan Posted August 22, 2009 Moderators Posted August 22, 2009 Well I tried swimming and my goggles decided they did not like it...so here I am back. It is OK to argue with a kook -a - burra because the only way you can do that is to laugh. Quote
nuff sed Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Well I tried swimming and my goggles decided they did not like it...so here I am back. Nan, Try a mask instead of goggles and see if they work better for you. I would NEVER use goggles. I don't like water in my nose. Mask and snorkel for me works best... Quote
nuff sed Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I intend to argue about this: I'm a conservative SDA ... yes. But I am not a 'ubber' conservative. If you are not "ubber' then you must be "uber"..... Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I used to swim underwater with my eyes wide open and no goggles. Chlorinated pool or muddy lake, no difference. People did that way back then. And Glad, I never got water in my nose. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Guest Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Hey Glad, I find that if I breath out of my nose while I'm under water, and not in, I don't get water in my nose. Works every time. Quote

GreatLakesGramma Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Nan, butterfly is the same as breast stroke, isn't it? Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Neil D Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Nan, butterfly is the same as breast stroke, isn't it? *Breast stroke- a swiming styly characterized by the stroke being under water *Butterfly strok-a swiming styly characterized by the stroke being above water *Neil's quick reference dictionary Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Liz Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 *Breast stroke- a swiming styly characterized by the stroke being under water *Butterfly strok-a swiming styly characterized by the stroke being above water *Neil's quick reference dictionary What is a "swiming styly"? That actually sounds a little painful and hard to do. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Moderators Nan Posted August 23, 2009 Moderators Posted August 23, 2009 I will get out of all this by talking about a swimming stylIST! I think when butterfly was first introduced, it was an option for the more conventional breast stroke. In both, the arms perform the same action at the same time - in contrast to freestyle/crawl and backstroke when the arms alternate. In butterfly the arms are brought together our of the water and there is quite a lot of body motion which does not occur in breast stroke. Butterfly done properly is by far the most tiring stroke. (I would be classed as doing it improperly, but even so, 200 metres is about my limit nonstop and I can do 5 times that distance crawl and barely notice it.) So now we have managed to divert the thread from argument. I can give a deep throated kookaburra laugh and get on with the workin week which is about to start here. Quote
