Members phkrause Posted August 15, 2009 Members Posted August 15, 2009 Very good posts Redwood. There's much we don't understand. Even when we read it from scripture, or when EGW tries to explain it in her writings. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Woody Posted August 15, 2009 Author Posted August 15, 2009 Isn't that true pk. We sit here at our computers thinking we know so much. But all we have to say is 'babble' compared to what we WILL learn. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Gerr Posted August 15, 2009 Moderators Posted August 15, 2009 Our moral/character likeness to Christ begins here & now and not by and by. According to Paul in 1 Cor 15, it is the likeness to His immortal glorious body that will be bestowed at His coming. The Apostle John says in 1 Jn 3:3, the next verse to what you quoted, "And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure." Quote

Robert Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 "And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure." 1] Note where the hope is: "in Him"....Your hope is "in Christ"...in the doing & dying of Christ! 2] Note two things: a] Christ is pure...He's spotless...He selfless - not a trace of selfishness....No self-love. b] We, as we have the assurance "in Christ", "purifies himself"....This is ongoing and not meritorious. We grow because we have the assurance of salvation because that has been taken care of "in Christ Jesus" Quote

Dr. Rich Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 So Redwood, where did you learn that we will be learning all through eternity about Jesus? Is this some finctional opinion? Quote

We grow because we have the assurance of salvation because that has been taken care of "in Christ Jesus" Have you seen anyone claiming merit for being purified? Anyone claiming to be "in Christ} whose hope is "in Christ" will purify themselves by the grace of God. Or do you call this legalism? Quote
Moderators John317 Posted August 16, 2009 Moderators Posted August 16, 2009 What do you mean by "finctional opinion"? This is the second thread that you have mentioned "finctional opinion." Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Dr. Rich Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 "What do you mean by "finctional opinion"? This is opinion that is not and can not be verified by the words of Jesus. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted August 16, 2009 Moderators Posted August 16, 2009 Quote where Jesus said that all words and teachings must be verified by Him personally before we are to accept them as true. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Dr. Rich Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Again, what is your problem? I didn't say Jesus said to verify it, I said that I verified what they say with the words of Jesus. In 1st John you will see that we are to test ever spirit--which means to test every person who calls or called themself an apostle or prophet! How else can one know the difference? How does one find the wolf when he looks just like a poor sheep? Quote
Guest Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Test them against scripture. Not just the red words. Isa 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted August 16, 2009 Moderators Posted August 16, 2009 I didn't say Jesus said to verify it, I said that I verified what they say with the words of Jesus. Why do you need to verify something with the words of Jesus any more than by the words of any special revelation of God? Jesus didn't tell people to believe something simply because he said it. He pointed people to the Old Testament Scriptures, and specifically to Moses. The OT from Moses to Malachi was His authority. So again, where does Jesus say that you need to verify everything with the words of Jesus? The words of Jesus in the Gospels in red have no more authority than the rest of Scripture in black. That's an arbitrary and specious distinction and has no support in anything Christ Himself taught. "The word of our God stands forever," and that word is not merely the words uttered by Jesus Christ. Is. 40: 8. Jesus said that there were many things He could not teach the disciples at that time, and therefore it makes sense that God would raise up other prophets and apostles who would teach the truth to the church. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Guest Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 God also knew people would come along trying to tear down his true prophets and introduce strange new teachings. Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. Quote
LifeHiscost Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Why do you need to verify something with the words of Jesus any more than by the words of any special revelation of God? Seems there's a principle here. "Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."John 20:29 KJV And should we discount these just because we don't know the author? "And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen."John 21:25 NKJV I do believe Dr Rich has a point about trying the Spirit. I believe that Spirit can be identified by the verse below, with the proper discernment. But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge]. Gal 5:22,23 AMP Brackets parenthesis theirs LHC Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 We will spend all of eternity learning more of Jesus. So yes in comparison ... what we know now is as babble. "He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. Dr. Rich Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 John and RH--You don't have to test anything--it is your choice. And why test anything since you are saved by grace? Quote
Guest Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 The two texts you said were a test were not a test at all. One was a statement of what God will do, the other was part of a prayer for those who will believe in the future. Quote
Twilight Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Will we ever be fully like Jesus? A copy can never equal the original. A better question would be: Is it possible for God to give us victory as He did Jesus. We know the answer is yes. So the problem is us, not Gods power. ---------------- That leaves two options. 1. Claim victory is impossible and carry on sinning. 2. Seek and pursue righteouness. Mark Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...
Members phkrause Posted August 16, 2009 Members Posted August 16, 2009 Why Dr. Rich would you ask that? Do you know all you need to know about our Lord and Saviour already, and that that is it, we don't need to know anymore? Just curious! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
