It seems to me jasd that that often you are talking about is refering to this bread. And that bread is being eaten once a year. That is the only time they made bread without yeast for a particular celebration! Just my thoughts on this.

Form over substance? I'm not suggesting gluttony; neither do I agree with stinginess when it comes to showing the Lord's death. It is our witness...

Should our witness be as stingy as the tot of juice and crumbs of wafer represent?

I suspect the Protesting .orgs have taken the idea of their ritual wafer from the liturgy of our Catholic brethren, rather than from Writ.

Did not the Lord depart from ritual in the Last Supper? that we might celebrate a New Covenant?

As to the suggestion that I refer only to the bread, not so, most particularly I refer to the wine and the bread; that said,

I speak in the general to the entire meal - a communion of Saints, as it were - showing the Lord's death until He comes.

In that the Lord gave us a New Covenant, it may be that the church of the Saints is better represented by the Shavuot/Pentecost; wherein, the two loaves waved before Gd - were required to be made with leaven, which may represent inclusion of Gentiles - remembering that the descendants of the tribes of the Northern Kingdom are now also 'Gentiles'.
