Twilight Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 In case anyone is interesting in discussing this further, I'm reposting from above something I wrote which I think was clearly stated. (karl said:)Partial indwelling is not an option because the head controls the body. So when the Holy Spirit has control of the brain/mind, He has control of the whole organism. "If it made any sense to think of the Holy Spirit dwelling within our bodies in some such which doesn't involve the mind, my question could be addressed, as to what it means for the Holy Spirit to dwell within the foot. For example, germs can dwell within a body part. It would only be in some trivial sense like this that the Holy Spirit dwell within our bodies, if our minds are not involved. Clearly what it would mean to say that the Holy Spirit dwells in our foot, or feet, is that our feet obey the instructions of the Holy Spirit." Especially I think the last sentence clearly indicates what it would mean to say that the Holy Spirit dwells in our feet. I'm wondering if anyone disagrees with what I've written here (the part in quotes especially). Why do you think anyone believes the indwelling of the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with the mind? pnattmbtc Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Quote: Why do you think anyone believes the indwelling of the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with the mind? Because of some statements which have been made regarding the literal heart and kidneys. For example, I disagree with the idea that the kidneys have mental functions. Please notice I wrote: "If it made any sense to think of the Holy Spirit dwelling within our bodies in some such which doesn't involve the mind ..." It's important to note the "if." I think there has been a lack of clarity in the discussion of the Holy Spirit dwelling in our bodies, or hearts, or kidneys, or feet. I think what I have written is very clear, however, and am inviting a response as to whether it is being agreed to or not. Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.

Dr. Rich Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 John 20:20,21 is where you will find that Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to His disciples. This was written by an eyewitness of Jesus Himself. Acts 2 is where you will find that where Luke reports the Holy Spirit was given on the day of Penticost. Luke was not a jew now did he every know Jesus. He was a disciple (student) of Paul and was prejudiced (bias) toward Paul's view and of Paul's gospel which is not the same as the gospel given by Jesus. So, since we all have choices to make, you are free to choose whom you want to believe. As for me, I choose to believe what John wrote. Good luck with your choice. I have yet to find anyone who has truely been born of the Holy Spirit-(1Jn.3:9) Quote
Moderators John317 Posted October 8, 2010 Moderators Posted October 8, 2010 ....I have yet to find anyone who has truely been born of the Holy Spirit-(1Jn.3:9) What do you believe happens when people are (or will be) born of the Holy Spirit? What does the Bible teach on this point? Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

It's OK to point these things out when the issue arises if you believe this, but we don't want to hijack the discussion to concentrate on textual criticism and the legitimacy of the canon. That is a subject that requieres its own thread. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Dr. Rich Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 John 3 tells us what Jesus said about being born of the Holy Spirit. I don't think one can deny how simple this is and what it means. 1John3 tells that when this happens, one becomes changed and is now a true child of God, as was Jesus. Did Jesus sin? No, so any Brother or Sister of Jesus will not sin either. The process of Sanctification starts with first having faith and then Justification, progressing into ALL truth and righteousness and at that time ONLY the Holy Spirit will do what the Holy Spirit did with Jesus, and you will become sealed by God, the same as being Born of the Holy Spirit. It is clear to me that the Holy Spirit will not and can not dwell in someone where sin and lies also reside. Didn't Jesus say something about this with a house? Nope, there can't be any division where part of you has the Holy Spirit and part of you is sinful. But by saying this I also understand that it is not a popular idea or belief and just might be in conflict with what other NT writers said and taught. I also know that many will make fun of me and call me names because of this belief, but it truely is sincere. Quote
